what are your views on smoke free establishments? do you think that all bars should follow this as well? i know in some states they already have done this if you are a smoker from there how has it affected you? do you think smokers stop going places that are smoke free? if it happens to bars or those that it has affected do the smokers all stand around the door outside and smoke so it still effects the non-smokers as they walk in?

I think it should all be smoke free. If you want to kill yourself then do it but why would you drag everyone else down with you. I hate some people who smoke they just don't care who they are around. A note to smokers look around for kids dont' smoke around them. I know kids don't go in bars but when I do go to a bar I have to take a shower and throw my clothes in the washer. Not everyone likes that smell and in a bar its just so strong. I rather stay home to tell you the truth just b/c of the smoke.

In the Uk smoking was banned in all public buildings and work places including bars and restaurants in June 2007. The number of pubs, clubs and retaurants that are closing down is ridiculous, you have to feel sorry for the business owners. Also if I get a plumber out for instance to work in MY house he/she can ask me not to smoke by law because it becomes his/hers place of work the minute they walk through the door!!

You can smoke in your car unless its your place of work i.e. if your a taxi, van, lorry driver ect. Your not even supposed to smoke at the bus stop lol this country has gone completely made. The govt moans about the £3.6bn it spends on smoking related illness (unproved related to smoking) but will still take the £10bn in taxes on cigerettes and tabacco. The whole thing in my mind and plenty others is its an abuse of human rights!!! If I smoke 40 ciggies aday I spend more in tax than I would working a full time job at minimum wage !!

i know in america it is five dollars a pack at most stores but i do say it must be annoying when someone can tell you not to smoke in your own house. i don't how americans would act if told that.

I am an asthmatic and have other health problems and I'm glad there's less smoking indoors. We have a law in California that you can't even smoke around any opening to a building, too. But, of course, it doesn't stop my neighbor from smoking in the common area of my apartment filling the entire building with smoke. I know that the smoke-free laws have really freed me up to go to places that I could never have thought of going to before. I can now go to bars, clubs, and any restaurant and not have to worry about getting asthma. Of course, there are some places in some small towns that don't enforce the no-smoking rule so they allow people to smoke. That's kinda hard, especially if I'm not familiar with the area and am looking for a place to eat.

it is nice to hear a plus to the no smoking ban. if only everyone would follow the laws you wouldn't have to worry so much.

I am a smoker and I don't go to smoke free places. I really believe that smokers have rights as well and that non-smokers should repsect that and stop treating us like we are monsters or something!

i am a smoker and don't you think non smokers have rights too? i think if they choose to not smoke then why should we make the choice to smoke for them? that is why it is a good thing they have made so many choices for us all!!!!!

Yes I see your point but like there is more air outside than inside so it is not as bad. I think it is far worse inside the place because it accumulates and can be really bad especially on workers who shouldn't have to deal with it anyway, they have to work but why should they risk their health at the same time too.

I think all public places should be smoke free. I don't mind people smoking outside in public though.

I quit smoking 3 years ago but I think bars, restaurants and other places like that should have, if posible, two rooms (one for smokers and one for nonsmokers). I could name a lot of things that kill people besides smoking and they are legal in many places. Weapons are one of them. Famine is another (in some countries people have an obesity problem while in others they do not have enough to eat).

Quite recently where I live all public places, including pubs, were declared smoke-free unless standing in a specifically designated smoking area that is well ventilated and I must say I love the change. I don't mind if smokers want to kill themselves with it, but they have no right dragging me or anybody else down with them.

I'll tell you what, when my husband and I try to figure out where to eat at night we think about where we can smoke and that is it unless we really want something else where you cant smoke. I think that every place should be like it was, except that I am willing to go to resturant that has non smoking in the front but I do believe that you should be able to smoke in the back and they should make a section for it just like they did for no-smokers back in the day.

If you had asked me this 3 months ago, I would have been against anything banning smoking. I understand why they're trying to make smoke free environments, but there are a lot of other things out there hurting the atmosphere. I quit smoking at the beginning of February after about 8 years of being a smoker. Now I can't stand the smell of it. It immediately closes up my throat, makes me cough and is disgusting! I'm also pregnant, and they tell you to avoid smoking and second hand smoke. I'm not sure I totally agree with a non-smoking bar, a lot of people smoke when they drink, but I'm sure non-smokers would be happier. But I do recall smelling my clothes after a night out and it was pretty nasty.

So I feel that this is just another way we have allowed the government to have control over our lives. I do however feel if by its own choice a bar or restaurant wants to ban smoking then ok I will either wait to smoke or eat somewhere else. I have always felt that smoking and non-smoking sections were dumb because they are still in the same building therefore serving no purpose. I do try to be respectful when I smoke. I will not smoke around kids in public or if I see people about to walk through where I am smoking I will step off the path a bit. I also think that for people with health reason as to why they cannot be around the smoke that it would be good for restaurants to open non-smoking. Giving people a choice of where to enjoy a meal because before it was very limited.Although I do tolerate nonsmoking restaurants I would never go to a bar that has banned smoking. Just for the simple fact that when I am drunk I want to smoke and think that if I were somewhere I couldn't it may cause problems.

In England all public places are now smoke free. A lot of people prefer it, especially in restaurants etc where sometimes even smokers prefer to not have smoke around their food. I find that I do meet a lot more people in the street smoking and that can be nasty but at leats it is in the open air.

I don't think so because bars are place to drink and have fun .one cannot imagine a drink without a smoking .I think such people must not enter into the bar

In my opinion, bars, clubs and restaurants should have to right to either allow or disallow smoking. People have the right to smoke and I believe the owners of bars, clubs, restaurants, etc should have the right to allow or disallow smoking. If you don't like it then simply go somewhere else. And no one give me any "They should respect the people around them" crap. You know what? Tolerance and respect goes both ways. By the way, i'm a non-smoker and i've I have asthma.
