Cooking With Spam?

So does anyone like Spam? Why does it have such a bad reputation? My son loves Spam burgers, topped off with a sunny side fried egg, lettuce, tomato all on a toasted Sesame bun. Well, it's not as greasy as a hamburger and like I said he loves it. It's hard to get this teenager eating anything so I'm grateful for Spam. Not to mention it's wonderful mixed in with macaroni and cheese. Anyone else cook with Spam. Come on, I know you do.

I buy spam almost monthly. Me and my husband enjoy it alot. We put it in Mac&cheese, make it as fried ham nd cheese sandwiches, and put it in other things it is good for breakfast with eggs and hash browns, and great in egg omlets as well We even took it once and fried it and then got cresant rolls and rolled strips up Spam and cheese into them Ummmm!. So I don't know why so many have so much problems against Spam. It is a fast meal in itself and has a good shelf life and is great on long trips and even camping with no worries that it will spoil before it is opened. Artery clogging but good

Bacon is artery clogging as well but we still love it.. I hope you will like it as good as we do when you fix it with the crescent rolls you can either make strips or cut into little pieces. we usually try to fry it or nuke in the microwave and then cool slightly before making and we like it but everyone has diferent taste. You can also add a little sambled eggs if you want. I got the idea from those like Hot pocket brand that ham and cheese and some have eggs but we use spam in ours. Well ope you enjoy! Have a good day today!

It does have a wonderful shelf life. Although I wonder if some people don't trust anything that has a long shelf life. I'll get some crescents this week and try it your way. Sounds good. I guess if it's an arty clogging kind of food we better eat it sparingly. Yikes.

I think we can start our own MyLot Spam Cook book. LOL. This is great. Cream of chicken soup added to the mix sounds pretty good. And I love yellow peppers. Very nice! Thanks Lakota.

I do not like it, and I do not cook with it. Hubby likes it. I know they have Spam festivals and recipe contests, though. Some of the recipes sound gross. I like your descriptions of Spam dishes, though. It just is not my favorites.

I guess it's not a favored food for a lot of people. It is kind of salty. But once in a while I like to share a Spam burger with my son. Maybe it's a guy thing.

I live in the Spam capital of the world (Hawaii). We eat spam for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There is even a cookbook that was published here titled, "100 Ways To Cook Spam". When I was little, my aunt gave that book to my grandmother because I was a notorious spam eater. *LoL* Just a side note: someone told me that SPAM stands for "Spare Parts of Animal Meat". Not that I care, its delicious anyway you slice it!

Hawaii sure has a lot of things to be proud of. I love those island, like I'm sure everyone else the world does. A little slice of heaven, I say. "Spare Parts of Animal Meat." Mmmmm, still tastes good though.

I love Spam - my favorite ways are baked on top of baked beans or fried and servered with waffles and syrup. I don't understand why it has such a bad reputation except it's just left over meat parts mixed together - very inexpensive at one time but like everything else the price has increased.

Very nice. I have a can of baked beans sitting in the pantry. I'll wait another week and then I'll serve it up on a layer of bakes beans. Can't have a good Spam burger every day. LOL. And I thought that it might be meat parts mixed together. That could explain the reputation.

The very word Spam makes me shudder. It conjures up memories of school teas (I went to a UK boarding school) and spam fritters (deep fried in batter). Spam is a meat that doesn't know what it is supposed to be I always think. Spam salad, spam and Chips (french fries), Spam and boiled potatoes. Eeeeww. Glad to hear that someone likes it though.

Deep fried Spam in batter? Mmmm, we'll have to try that. I guess if you have to have it a lot, one could get sick of it really fast. I like the definition of Spam--a meat that doesn't know what it is supposed to be. LOL. Love it.

I think it is for at least two reasons, but there could be more, one it is not the healtiest of foods, second my grandfather told me that when he was in the fields of world war II all they had was spam rations to eat day in and day out, they got so tired of it they hated it, this trickled down to coming home and then the soldiers never wanted to see another can of spam again.

Yes, I can see how one could get tired of Spam after having it every day for a few years. Yuck. My parents were both children in WWII and were actually POWs. They probably would have appreciated a can of Spam a day. Different POV for sure.

It's a camping staple & most people ( including myself )have relegated it to just that use only. Though I have to admit you've managed to get me craving some fried spam now.

We're going camping this summer. I'll remember to pack the Spam. Great idea, never thought of it before. And glad to get those cravings started for you. LOL.

I only buy Spam about once a year. I like to heat it up in a pan until it is a little bit brown on both sides and eat it as a sandwich. I think that is the only way I have ever eaten it.

Yes me too. I did find out that I have to slice it pretty thin. It's quite salty. But I do enjoy it with lettuce and a few slices of fresh tomatoes.

Yes, so far I haven't heard an explanation of why Spam got such a bad reputation. Actually I've heard that it's only supposed to be a camping kind of food and our soldiers of course, in WWII, probably got sick of Spam daily rations. Then again, it still doesn't explain the bad reputation as far as taste.

I like spam right out of the can! Yep, it makes a pretty good sandwich with lettuce, tomato and lots of mayo. Eggs on top of that sounds pretty good too. Spam is so much better than those pretenders to the Spam throne!

Hehehe, Spam lovers unite. You're too cool. I think for me the slice of tomato makes the Spam so much tastier. That's just me. Thanks Marcola for droppin' by. Have yourself a wonderful week.

Oooh, my husband and I love spam so much! :) We like dipping it in egg before frying it until it becomes crispy brown. Serve it with rice and vinegar for dipping. Yum! :D I guess the reason why spam has a bad reputation is because of its high sodium content, but they now have "lites" which has less sodium in it.

Rice and vinegar for dipping. There's a new recipe I haven't considered. And dipping it in egg. I remember my mom doing that to her mashed potatoes then sticking it in the broiler. In any case, I think I will try that next time too. Quite an education I'm getting here. Thanks, my friend.

Oh, wow!! I just love Spam. I like to slice it and brown it (don't hafta use a lot of oil, ya know) and then eat with eggs. Eggs can be fried or boiled and then make a sandwich with lettuce and mayo or mustard. Your Spam burger sounds good too!!! Spam is good eating.
