Wanted to know your impressions or thoughts on Australian people? Where do you think you got this belief from, maybe you know alot of Australian people, seen Australians on the media, Australian actors etc.
For example do you think we are yobbos with big beer bellies, lol that speak alot of slang. Or maybe you think we are like the great Aussie Icon Steve Irwin, easy going with great one liners, Crikey. Or do you picture Australians as all living in the outback with our boomerangs and dancing around a fire.
No offence taken, I am open to all beliefs on what you perceive Australians to be like and where do you think this belief came from?

Actually, I very seriously considered moving to Australia about 15 years ago. Wow!
I have no real stereotypical perception of Australians. I have never personally known anyone from there. Many online acquaintances, though. And TV/movie personalities...some acting in character, some real- being themselves. I have no negative impressions. And I mainly think happy, laid back..and yes maybe on the "outdoorsy" side like someone else mentioned. LOVE the accent! :)

I think at the time it just wasn't a practical idea financially. And I also sort of just didn't know how one would go about moving to another country...lol. Then life sort of moved on. It was for the best, I'm sure.
It would have been quite an experience! Looking back now I sorta wish I'd gone for it while I had the freedom to do so.

Well, all the Australians I know have always been kind, outgoing, cheerful people. Due to this, I love Australians. I've never heard any negative comments on the media about them and the country itself seems awesome. The only thing I could point out is some racism against the Asians, but that's not even the case with most Australians.

Wow that is good news, no negative comments on the media about Australia. Yes unfortunately there is some racism here, but luckily only with the minority of people like you said. Glad to hear you think we are happy, outgoing people they are great qualities.

hi
my impressions of aussies are based on what i have read and heard about them...of course there may be lot of misconceptions involved here....and lot of those perceptions are related to cricket(including sledging for which aussies are popular or notorious???)....but one this is sure that Asians can ever have a favourable opinion about aussies, though its not my personal opinion...i have never had any personal experience wid any aussie....but do you remember the cricket tournament in India recently(which was equivalent to a mini world cup) which the aussies won,and for the final photograph with the trophy,do u know how rudely they pushed aside India's cricket chief, who is also a top Indian politian.newayz i must admit that we cannot have any stereotyping here.but one thing i must ask u-do u know what KIRAN means here in india-it means SUNLIGHT,incidentally one of mine uncle is named Kiran.

Hi Kiran! I know a lot of Filipinos living in Australia and I got one friend who is an Australian working here in the Philippines. He's nice and a family-oriented guy. He was 35 when I met him and he was living in MAkati with his ill father.
They say discrimination is present in Australia but for me, this is a common occurence in countries that have a very high regard of themselves as a citizen of their own country. Just like Singaporean (their country is the only other country I've visited so far), they believe they are superior than any other nationality and in the workforce, they must dominate, at least in numbers. I am not sure if this is happening in your country.

I am not too sure if Australia discriminates, I have not really come across that myself. Maybe small minority of people here do, but most generally don't. No Australia does sound like Singapore at all. We do have good workforce here, but do not think Australia thinks they are superior. I appreciate your thoughts and comments.

Well, have I not much info about Austrians except my impression that Australians especially the women are beautiful. I've seen Australians in Beauty contests and I could really observe their outstanding beauty. That's all that I know and nothing more, forgive me for this!

I like Australian people in general. Well when I had a trip to Australia I found most people to be helpful and nice. Although living in New Zealand, image doesn't seem to be that great since New Zealand is always trying to stand out on top of Australia. I think Australia is a great country with interesting sights as well. Great tour spot as well. Although I do hear lots about funny Australian accents.

By watching the Aussie cricket team its fair to say that Aussies are aggressive and go-getters in whatever they want.
Thats why they are one of the sporting Giants of the world.

I used to work with a girl who was Australian, called Tammy she was very tactile and so bubbly, I used to love working with her because she was very electric, I could feel really down, grouchy and miserable but she would soon cheer me up and I wouldn't be grouchy with her around. She was fun to be with and very pretty too. I find Australians very outgoing, confident and full of self esteem, nothing gets them down and they are very polite but they also speak their mind and are not afraid of telling you what they really think, good or bad.

Great answer Wolfie, your Australian friend sounded like a good friend to have. It would be great if all us Australians were as electric as here. Yes there definately are people here that speaks their mind, my partner is one of them, he is a real Aussie. I on the other hand do not speak my mind as much as I do not like to offend anyone. What country you from Wolfie?

I would love to learn more about your country. My perception of you guys is that you have a beautiful country. I love your accent.. Curtis Stone, Take Home Chef, have you seen the show?? I love his mannerisms and accent-- are you all like that? I perceive you guys to be easy going, laid back, jovial, happy.. I wish Americans were like this.

Wow, nice description of us Aussies. We are not all laid back but alot of people are particularly where I am living on the Sunshine Coast. Another person hear that thinks we have a great accent, I though our accent was pretty average, lol. I have seen Take Home Chef however I do not watch it much as I am not into cooking that much. Americans have some great people too.

Actually, I have a friend who's Australian who lives in the US now. She is very beautiful and nice. Loads of fun and non tribal. What I gather is Aussie's like to party and have fun at least that is what I get from my friend and others I have met here on Mylot.
She goes to visit quite frequently and always brings me back cookies...biscuits? Tim-tams I think they are called. Anyway, they are good too.
So I think Aussies are fun and nice!
