I have used old newspapers in place if towel paper to clean my mirrors at one time and I have also used vinegar in place of windex. I prefer to use good paper towel without lotion in it and soem good windex. It doesn't leave the mirros smeared up, in most cases.

Old newspaper works? Hrm, I would have thought the newsprint ink would have a tendancy to come off or something when it gets wet. When I was a newspaper boy, many years ago, I was always coming home with blackened hands full of newsprint ink.

Old newspapers do work great for windows. They leave them bright, shiny and rarely streaky.
I use Windex and a micro fiber towel. They don't leave any lint on the windows either. Newspapers don't either. I washed some of my windows today. It was at least 45 here today and sunny.

I tried the newspapers and didn't care for it - got newsprint on me. I think they don't make newspapers like they used to haha. I use vinegar and water if I'm out of Windex or if my asthma is bothering me. It works pretty well. I shouldn't be around the ammonia because of the asthma anyway and try to get one of the guys here to do the cleaning with Windex. I'm trying to do more "green" cleaning methods all the time though so when the Windex runs out, I may not get anymore.
