I'm in England but I daresay you can relate to this. I bought my new phone in Woolworths, which is a store selling all sorts of things, similar to K-Mart and Walmart. I don't know if it's quite the same there, but Woolworths is quite a cheap store, so my phone was inexpensive. When I was in Oregon, I did visit an electrical store which had all sorts of things, from TVs, to Audio Equipment, etc., but I don't know if they held phones because I wasn't seeking one.
As for electricity, you use very little charging up a cell phone, and if you're using it only for emergencies, it won't need charging up too often anyway.
I hope this is of some help to you. Brightest Blessings.

Hi there clocks123! I am from the Philippines and as of now, I am using Smart Telecom's Prepaid service. I like it because prepaid services are available and most of the people I know are using Smart so I can really maximize my prepaid load especially if I am registered to their unlimited text messages service. I think it depends upon your location and the availability of prepaid services there. I think their features offered depends upon your area too.

I got a Samsung flip phone last August as a birthday gift and I really like it. I use T-Mobile Pay-as-you-go-plan and it's very convenient. It's only $10 for 30 minutes and they don't expire for three months. As long as you refill your phone with at least $10 every three months, you don't lose your money or your minutes.
As for charging, I have a car charger, that I bought separately, and a home charger, which came with the phone. It doesn't take long to charge and I usually charge it about once a week depending on how much I use the phone.

I only use a cell myself, and currently I have a prepaid, when I did the research before getting one I found that T-mobile was the best deal. Now, thats been awhile, so I can't say for certain that its still the best. I only paid about $20 for my phone, and it comes with a few minutes. However part of why I chose T-Mobile is they offer a deal, if you buy $100 worth of minutes then they don't expire for a year! Most prepaid minutes expire in about 30-60 days last I knew so you might want to pay attention to that when choosing your plan.
Hope this helps a bit!

Your quite welcome :)
One more thing ...
another reason I like T-Mobile ... you can recharge your minutes in several ways, either buy a card (in a store), or online with a credit/debit card or your bank act, or even through the phone with a credit/debit card. This would be extra handy in case you got caught out and about and needed more minutes fast.
I have been very happy with the customer care when I have had to call them as well, I had a BAD time of it trying to get my number transfered over from my prior company .. and even though it was my old company's fault, T-Mobile gave me free airtime for the troubles.
Best wishes to you no matter what co. you choose :)

I bought mine at our local walmart and activated it online. It came with a free $10 activating it online. It also depends on where you are as to what cell phones are in your area and what plans are available. We live in a small town that has a few providers. I chose the Alltel Pay Per Day plan. I spend roughly $35 a month for free cell to cell, free texting, and unlimited nights and weekends. It runs $1.00 a day but you can chose which features you want and pay what you want.
If you are using the phone as just an emergency cell I would probably go with something more like a tracphone because you won't have to worry about buying time every week with one of them. My grandmother has one and buys the minutes once a month so that she has it for emergency uses. She puts the minimum on there since it's only for emergencies.
Also I only charge my cell phone once every 5 days because to much charging can cause the battery to have a shorter life. If I happen to use mine more than usually I will go ahead and charge it but I keep an eye on it so that when it's done I can immediately remove it. You don't want to constantly over charge them either, because this will also shorten the life of a battery.

thank you especially for the tip to charge the cell phone once every 5 days because too much charging can cause the battery to have a shorter life.
