For me, it mostly depends on what the soup is and what my budget is. I LOVE French Onion soup. There is one restaurant nearby that has it every day and it's the best I've had anywhere. I will get it every time I'm there even though I'm also getting the salad bar. Or I'll get the soup and a sandwich. Other places kind of depend on my mood and what the soup is. I like Manhattan clam chowder, but don't like it in some restaurants, so will get salad instead. I like chicken orzo and that Greek Lemon Chicken soup that I think is wonderful (even though I was afraid to try it at first because I'm not real big on lemons). Just looked it up - Avgolemono. Yummy. I thought it was a "cream of" soup, but the recipes I find have no dairy in them. It's very very good. I also like Olive Garden's Pasta e Fagioli soup. It's actually more like Minestrone, I think, but I do like it a lot. I always get that instead of salad. Sometimes a place will offer seafood or shrimp bisque - another soup I never thought I'd like. I will usually order it just to find out if theirs is as good as others. When I do order salad, I'm a sad specimen of a salad eater - I ask them to leave off the tomatoes, onions and cucumbers (unless I'm with my guy friend who loves cukes). I'll do lettuce, broccoli, cheese, sometimes spinach, croutons, sunflower seeds and bacon, but I hate raw onion and don't like raw tomatoes or cucumbers either. You'd never know my mother was raised on a farm or that we had a garden every year I was growing up full of tomatoes. LOL

I prefer my soups with meat. But french onion is one of my all time faves that doesn't really have meat in it. I don't care for many creamy type soups etc like chowders etc though. The Fagioli is great at Olive Garden. I eat their soup and salad lunch buffet. Gotta love it. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I will go for a salad 9 out of 10 times. I love a house salad with blue cheese or ranch dressing on it. I love the crunchiness of the lettuce. If we were at a restuarant in Waterville, Ohio, Chowders N Moor. I would choose their White Chicken Chili. It is so good.

ooooh I love a good greek salad! but they just do not have them around here.... my second runner up for a salad would be a nice Antipasto - but again, they do not make them around here. I miss New York! lol. now if the salad is a regular green tossed salad I really like the combination of soup with salad but If I could only have one I would probably go with the soup - unless it is an exceptionally hot and humid day, then I find the tossed salad more appealing.

I always pick the salad. I am really picky about the soups that I like, but I rarely find a salad I don't like!

9 times out of 10, I go for the salad. If I get a choice I go with an antipasto salad...they have that at one restaurant in particular around here...unfortunately I don't like the rest of their food much...lol.

A lot of times I will get just the soup and salad lunch! so I don’t have to choose- I too love home-made soup! All kinds! I order out a lot at work for lunch- and just get soup! My favorite kinds are clear broths- chicken noodles, veggie beef. I do love clam chowder too though! I prefer the plain house salad—no meat- loaded with lots of veggies! And ranch dressing!

In a Chinese restaraunt I will choose short soup. If I choose a salad it would be Caesar with chicken if it's offered.

I go for the salad especially if I am having a full blown meal. If I am not that hungry and I am having a half sandwich or something like that I would then get the soup. When I have salad I really like a ceaser salad!

Glad you asked. Recently I've decided that I just don't care for salad, so I get the soup. There's one restaurant near me that makes unusual soups, such as cream of squash, which is delicious.

it really depends how I am feeling that day. I love thick creamy vegetable soup, and that is about the only soup i do like. I always ask the waitress/waiter what the soup of the day is and ask for a brief description of it. For the most part, I usually go with the salad.

I would choose the salad, because there's a lot of soups I don't like unless my husband makes it. I can eat any type of salads, I'm starting to wean myself away from Iceberg and using other types of lettuce. I really like using Spinach as a salad, especially if it's mixed with Romaine lettuce. All this salad talk is making me hungry, I think I will go and make me a salad.

It really depends on what the soup of the day is. I am quite picky with what I eat. Most of the time I don't like what is on offer. I really don't like salads so if they offer a shrimp one then that is all I would go for. Salads to me are rather boring. If I don't like what is on offer, then I just skip that portion of the meal. I do like carrot and corriander soup though!

I'm not much of a salad person, so when I have to choose between the two I usually pick the soup. I prefer chicken noodle, a vegetable style soup, or clam chowder. On those rare occasions that I have a salad I will choose an Iceberg salad with Thousand Island dressing.

I choose salad over soup. I am rather fussy about soups but easy on veggies. I would go for Caesar salad.

It depends. I prefer to go for salad if I wasn't really that hungry yet. If I was, I'd go for the soup instead as it would be more filling for me. What salad? Ceasar salad! If soup, I'd go for any soup as long as it's those thick creamy ones.
