Hi subha12,
According to the people who are supposed to know about such things, we all dream whenever we go into what they call "Rapid Eye Movement" (REM) sleep - but I'd counter that we go into REM sleep when we dream (chicken and egg argument - which causes which?).
BUT also supposedly, we generally don't remember our dreams unless we are woken during the dream.
So in theory, I don't remember all my dreams, and that's about right in practical terms too.
However, I don't think the researchers have much real idea about what dreams actually are, or what the scope for our dreaming experiences might be. When does a dream stop being a dream and become an "out of body" experience? What determines the reality of a dream - are they real but in another dimension, or are they just a controlled internal expression of our creative faculties?
I happen to think that there's a whole world of possibilities open to us when we sleep.
Some where we're in a private place and subject to auto-amusement or private review of our waking thoughts, actions and desires.
And some where we're able to interact with the material world independently of our physical selves.
And yet others where we go someplace else and experience different worlds.
And still others where time and space give way to other modes of being, which are difficult to comprehend back in our regular waking state even if we do remember it.
And lastly, states of being in which external entities can make their presence known.
I've had all those and more, on and off. Some really weird things, at times, for which the English language lacks suitable adjectives.
One thing I can say with confidence is that I have more dreams, and more vivid ones, whenever my electric blanket is running. Maybe that's an electrical thing, or maybe the extra heat has something to do with it.
The best dreams are when I'm flying - it seems to be a natural thing to do, and it conveys a marvelous sense of freedom.
The worst dreams are when I go AWOL - get sucked out of my body and swept away by some sort of maelstrom - and I fall sideways at the speed of light... that's when things get weird, and sometimes very scary.
The really really worst dreams are when something uninvited intrudes into my space - but that's thankfully quite rare.

Hahaha! My dreams can become pretty agitated when I sleep under an electric blanket. To avoid that I have to turn it off before I fall asleep, holding the warmth in with a big quilt.
I like to wake up slowly in the morning so that I have a better chance of remembering my dreams. The dreams that wake me up, or that I just happen to wake up from, always have a message for me.

Hi zizagbuddha,
Thanks for your comments here.
I think your observations are quite perceptive. Could it be that we remember dreams BECAUSE they have something to tell us?
That hypothesis would then suggest that whatever other dreams we have aren't worth remembering, or maybe aren't relevant to our conscious activities.
Though one may wonder about the relevance of The Big Bad Wolf to our waking lives - maybe he really IS out there lurking in the bushes (or at least, something analogous but equally unseen).

Hey guy! I don't know the answer to your ponderings, I just know that anytime a dream wakes me up, or I suddenly wake up for whatever reason during a dream, and the dream is still there when I do, that it is a dream that has a very strong or important message for me. I have never had it happen otherwise that I can recall.
Along with those 'strong message' dreams I use my dreams as guidance, not the stuff that happens in dreams so much as the predominant emotion of the dream. If it is a dream about frustration or loss or anything like that then I know that I need to change the direction of my thoughts in my waking hours. If they are pleasant and interesting dreams I know that I am headed in the right direction and don't pay much attention to them.
Hehehe, your words have reminded me of one of my most all time favorite songs called 'Lordly Nightshade'. Some of the lyrics are: '...so I offered my throat to the wolf but I just can't die, all I can do is fly...'

Nah, I don't dream each night either.
At present, I do not remember 99% of the dreams I have had, but when normally I wake up, I can recall the dream I had had the precedent night.
However, I do not make a sincere effort at all to remember my dreams. Most often, they are useless to me.

Hello dear subha. I dream sometimes, but now always because I cannot remember most of the dreams, but some dreams that are very impressive. I usually forget them very easily when I wake up. I don't know why it is like this. In fact, I don't like dreams very much as they bother me with my quality sleep. If I dream a lot, the next day will find me very tired and lack of energy. Thank you.

I don't remember all of them but I usually end up remembering the really random ones. The ones that include people I haven't spoken to in years or really trippy situations. I do remember nightmares too but I try to block them out because I don't like to live afraid. While I don't remember every dream, I'm pretty sure I dream every night. I know this because when I wake up, I know that I've just left the other world--the problem is trying to remember what was happening. Sometimes it's there and sometimes it's not!

it has been proven scientifically that every one dreams each not or they will get very sick, it is a natural body function as important as breathing or anything else.
people only remember their dreams that are closest to the time they are waking up.
Not everyone remembers those dreams like you.
I remember most of my dreams some are kind some are not some don't make sense and some tell the future.

somtimes when i dream, i only remember a small part of it or nothing at all. i don't know why i forget sometimes what i dream. maybe our mind wants us to forget what we dream at night. i think that when i dream i am more peaceful and i think that i had a deepest sleep in my life. i wish i could dream everyday so that i could feel refresh every single time i wake up in the morning. i just don't want to dream about bad things like getting killed or being chased by monsters and i can't seem to be moviing.

I do remember my dreams. Some are beautiful and some are nighmares. I see dream each night.
I am even a day dreamer.....LOL!
But dreams do indicate what is going on in our sub-consious mind.

hi subha! i don't dream every night. but whenever i dream, i don't usually remember them after i wake up. but i have observed the same thing as you, i remember nightmares the most. the good ones and funny ones i easily forget. i wonder why... maybe because nightmares carved out so much fear in our hearts that's why we don't easily forget them. and i think, we have more good dreams than nightmares so we get used with good dreams and the nice feeling it gives it, so we easily forget it. because we are used to it.

No it is not possible for any one to remember all of the dreams. We see thousands of dreams in a night and I think our brain can keep remember some of them which are special and which the brain could not forget them.

every time i sleep , whenever in daylight or at night, i usually dream. i dream a lot during one sleep , but only remember one or two . someone told me that you should tell your dreams to others the time you wake up , or you will forget most of it , i think i should try this way.

I remember some of my dreams and I would even tell my partner and friends about it especially if it's interesting. But these days, I notice that it's as if I am not dreaming anymore. I just can't remember my dreams nowadays. I wake up with an empty memory.

I don't how reliable this information is but according to some people who studied about dreams, we may have 200 different dreams in one sleeping. I sometimes rememeber my dreams. I always dreamed about chocolates when I was a teen ager and even ate it and tasted it the same way, as if it was a reality. There were also morbid ones but to tell if I dream every night, I would not know. Often times, I just wake up without recalling any dream. The studies also say, it's possible that no matter how many times we dream in an 8 hour night sleep, we may sometimes forget about everything.

Well, i don't know whether i saw a dream, or is that reality lol... most of the times my dreams are of 2-4 minutes and it depends upon when they come, if they come around 2.am then its very difficult for me to remember, but if it comes at 6-7AM, and suddenly someone wake up me then i do remember what i was dreaming...hehehe
