What is the first Country you visit for ur first traveling abroad? How did you find that place? Do you really got culture shock? For me, the first country abroad i visited is The Philippines. People eat sour and salty food here, while in Indonesia is hot and spicy and sweet food... People in the philippines looks similar with indonesian, the same race~malayan, has the same skin color. Only the language and custom differs with Indonesian... Culture shock? Yes! I really got culture shock...

The first country I even visited was Japan. It was a very nice country and I love the people. They are so kind. They always bow whenever they meet someone or introduce to someone. I also enjoy the culture, the foods and especially, the USJ and DISNEY LAND. It was a nice experience for me as it was my first time. I also like the sushi, ramen and japanese style of clothing. I just enjoy everything including the language : DOMO ARIGATOU!

Of course we look the same because we come from the Malayan race or the brown race. We may also look like Malaysians, Thais, and Vietnamese. We may differ in terms of our local culture but generally, we are conservative, respectful of our elders, euphemistic, and spiritual.

I obviously posted prematurely, leaving the topic behind. As for the other place I visited, well, I have never been to any other country. I would like to go to the US and work there, to New Zealand, Canada, Hongkong etc. But I guess, my first priority is US. With a little education about other people's culture, that can be helpful. Anyway, I keep in mind that these are things that can be learned and can be adapted to, in time. But despite differences in culture and physical features, we still have a link to everything because we are all humans.

The first foreign country for me was Mexico when I was 12 years old. Next was Canada ... and since then over 40 more countries! I have touched five continents - still have South America and Antarctica to reach all seven. I took one journey that lasted eight months and took me to 26 countries. I have spent a lot of time in Greece and the South Pacific, and visited Southeast Asia two years ago. I have not been to your country - Singapore - but I was pretty close in Kuala Lumpur! I was planning a trip to Sumatra a couple years ago and would have taken a stop over in Singapore, but the tsunami caused that trip to be canceled. My last journey was through Latin America exploring the Mayan ruins of the Yucatan, Guatemala, and Honduras. One of my favourite things about traveling is tasting the different local cuisines.

I have been traveling for many years, and have visited close to 20 countries in Asia, Australia, Europe and North America. My first visits were made when I was still a school boy, and these visits were mostly to our next-door neighbor Malaysia. They are not much different from us except majority is Chinese here, while it is Malays in Malaysia, so I can't really remember any kind of shock I ever got visiting that country. If you ask if we have ever gotten cultural shock in our travels abroad, then I have a number of tales to relate. - I went on an official visit to Bangkok in 1981. What shocked me was that at nearly midnight, the traffic was still buzzing and even at that hour, at traffic junctions, small children were still roaming around trying to sell flowers to motorists. - In 1982 I went on a conducted tour to Europe. I remember when we were in Amsterdam, the tour leader brought us to the red light district after dinner. What shocked us was that this place at night was very crowded with curious onlookers compared to the other places around Amsterdam. That was because many of the call girls were actually sitting pretty and attractively dressed (some more scantily) behind shop windows, like they were shop display items. It was a very interesting experience. - I first visited Hong Kong in 1995. One night I went to the Ladies Market. When I about to leave that place at around 1.15am in the morning, the lights were still bright, streets were still crowded, people were eating everywhere and traffic was still heavy. It seemed like Hongkongers don't sleep till 3am or 4am. - Before the Asian tsunami, I used to visit Phuket, Thailand. On my last visit there, while I was walking along Patong Beach, I saw several western tourists frolicking topless on the beach. I wasn't complaining but my mother-in-law was with me, and she sure got a cultural shock. - I was back in Bangkok a few years back. One day as I was near Pratunam Market, I came across people selling deep fried insects - caterpillars and grasshoppers. It was interesting but shocking to me, cos I couldn't stomach eating that. Understand that these are delicacies of the Thai people. I hope you find the stories I've shared here interesting.

The first time I went out of my country was when I went to Mexico with my father when I was 20 years old. * I was surprised with the very wide array of different kinds of soups that were served in Mexico. The restaurants served everything from bean soups, to tomato to avocado to various combination of soups. * Another surprise in Mexico was that there was more than one flavor of refried bean. I ran into several, including one that was specific to breakfast.

The first country that I'd visited is Thailand. At that time, I went with my family. We went to Bangkok and then Chieng Mai. I don't really get culture shock as the life style and people in Thailand is almost like the people in Malaysia. So I'm still ok with that. But I really enjoyed the delicacy in Thailand, although I forgot the name of the delicacy already. Really hope to go back there and try it again. While we're in Chieng Mai, the weather there is very cooling. It's almost like winter, just there's no snow. :P The scenery is very nice and it's actually the flower blooming season. I really enjoyed the trip.

Well, Culture Shock is only when you visit someplace completely different, so it all depends on where you are from.... For me, I came from the US, so practically anywhere except Europe is a huge culture shock lol

The first country I visit for my first traveling abroad maybe Laos, Cambodia and Thailand. From child to now, I haven't gone to abroad country. I had just travel in my country. This summer I'll go abroad, but I have some friends of Laos. So I knew some culture and some food of Laos. But I can't talk clear about that when I haven't gone here.

For me it was France. Living in the Netherlands myself it isn't that far away, but the people are very different. I couldn't call it a culture-shock but it sure took some time to adjust. It's nice to visit other countries though, there are so many things we can learn from each other :)

The first and only country I've visited is Germany. I loved it there. It was a little awkward trying to communicate, but it was so nice to be somewhere that wasn't so rushed as the US. People over there don't work 12-16 hours days. I love how they get way more holidays than we get. And vacation time from work. It seems like they care more about their people than they do here. I didn't really care for the food though.

Hi Manya Pearl. Its good to know you have visited our country. Where did you go here and how did you find the people? Well I have been to Malaysia just last year with a friend and it was so nice. We just stayed for a while to see the famous KL Tower and KL itself. The place was wonderul with its clean street and organized bus, train, and taxi. KL is wonderful in the night and the food is also great. Lots of things can be seen in Malaysia but the KL Twin Towers really still amazes me. I hope to see other countries in the future but also want to see first my country as it have lots to offer such as sceneries, caves, and especially the beaches!

Mind sharing which part of the Filipino culuture shocked you? It's interesting to know that, really. I am from the Philippines. The first country I visited is the United States. Right now I am here for a short vacation. I love it here. As far as I know, I haven't gotten any serious culture shock though. People here are just as I expected them to be, as I watched them in moviehouses, and as I read them about. Nothing really extradordinary.
