It is fact that people dont read like past!
They prefer to watch tv, see movies and have fun at the internet!
Why do you believe that is happening?
Almost everyone write a book and almost none read it!
I believe that people things that it is old fashion to read book and they are boring..
Also i believe that books are expensive and internet, movies and music are free!

I think the internet has got a lot to do with it, especially for socialising, and I think that people don't relax in the same way as they used to. It is a lot easier for some people to switch on the telly, and it takes a lot less thinking. For me, I'm always going to pick up a book a lot more often than switching on the telly, or surfing the net. I just love reading!

Its a shame that more people don't read, but i believe its alot to do with what the parents install in there children for the first 3 years.
I personally have always loved books and have and had numerous books around for my children and took them to the Library to let them pick out their own books. Every BD they were given a new book and i would read it to them. Now that they are Parents, they do the same for their children.
I never am without a book wherever i go....its my way to escape if i have a long wait somewhere and sometimes i leave it wherever i am at when i finish it for the next person who may come along.

Yes, I agree that how kids are brought up has a bit to do with it as well. I haven't yet got into the habit of taking a book with me all the time, but I like the idea, and it should make waiting for appointments a lot less boring. Hopefully my five yr old son will be a book lover when he grows up, my wife and I have read to him since he was born, and he is enjoying learning to read for himself now!

I don't believe people are reading less because of television and the internet. I, as well as my children, love TV and the internet but also love to read. I usually don't leave the house without a book in hand. Not reading has more to do with what one instills in their children at a very young age. If they are taught to love and appreciate books (for both knowledge and entertainment, then that is how they will grow up.
I have a friend who never read a book (except for school books) until she was an adult. She says that growing up, she was never introduced to books so she never developed an interest and thought it was boring until she actually gave it a try.

Surely people are reading less now but this has not come as a surprise with net becoming more and more popular one has a new option open to learn more in an interesting way and if we analyse we would see that we are reading a lot on the net now. I personally go through a good number of financial sites on a daily basis and gather information on various companies i feel are good for investments. I think we are now reading in a different way than just the books and newspapers.

I guess people have more things to do right now than read. and it must be your hobby for you to actually spend some time reading. People before have no internet, they go to libraries for research... people before dont have online games... they play games outdoors, or maybe just read books if they got tired playing outside.. those kind of stuffs that we have right now makes kids, and adults alike spend less time reading books.

I think it is because people are lazy. TV and internet are instant entertainment that require little or no effort. Reading requires some effort and brain power to accomplish. I think people would rather veg out in front of the TV rather than spend the energy to read.
I still read a lot. I have loved to read since I was little, but it does surprise me how few of my friends read. I think it is sad that people don't read anymore.

Yes its quite true these days everyone is turning towards television and internet setting new trends of relaxing themselves and passing time ,i think its because of the new generation they tend to spend their time in fact most of their time on internet browsing or chatting and even who wants to read books can easily read much of the stuff on internet so why spend money when one can access to this free stuff?
