I don't think its a must but reading does stimulate your brain, yet its relaxing at the same time, I find. Well that depends on what you are reading. Good light humor is excellent to read before bed. But not if you are reading something too stimulating and intense.

I read a lot..I have so many books but sometimes I am too busy to read. I just do it when time permits. Sometimes I read in the sauna, the car, while waiting for my ride, before sleeping but I just get through a few pages and I really have books that I haven't been able to read yet and are still wrapped in plastic from the bookstore. I buy books when they are on sale mostly..lol..

I love to read so I read everyday. I mostly read at nights. I normally read magazines, but I am going to start adding some non fiction. I am now into that self help therapy so I think the non fiction books will help.

That's obviously a personal decision. I know people that never read. I read most every night before going to sleep. It's usually a light novel, usual Christian fiction of some sort. If I'm reading during the day, it's normally a help or educational book of some type. Right now I'm reading some gardening books I picked up at the library yesterday.

I personally read every night that I work. I get 2 fifteen minute breaks, and one half an hour break, so I read during those. If the book is really good, than I usually will bring it home and read at home as well until I finish it. It usually will take me about a week to read a book. Sometimes, I go through spells where it's all I do, right now, I'm going through my computer spell. I'll probably get bored with the computer, and go back to books, or even go back to The Sims 2. I think reading is a good habit for people to get into, especially children, because it helps with learning more vocabulary. I have always enjoyed reading, even when I was young, in fact, I would go through about 7 chapter books in a week when I was in junior high. Rediculous right? Well, it's all I would do! I would even pass up eating dinner so that I could read, yeah, my parents didn't like that much, but I would lock myself in my room.

I have a 3 year daughter so after I read her a couple of bedtime stories I pick up the book I am currently reading and read about ten to twenty pages before I turn out the light. I think reading is very important and keeps your mind sharp. I am constantly reading to my daughter throughout the day and I hope she has a much of a passion for books that I do.

That is funny, I love to read alot, I read 7-10 books a week. I have read like this since a kids. I can take words and see pictures from them, so when I read it is like watching a movie in my mind. (Hollywood, don't give most stories the life it deserves.) I have three kids, and I read to them from birth. They all like to read, though only the oldest likes to read as much as I do, and she is faster at it than I am. She read the last Harry Potter book in just under 5 hours. Took me about 8 hours to read it. Reading is a great thing, it can take you any where and teach you anything. It is said that schools focus so much on other things in the primary grades, when what they should be focused on is making sure all children can read. Because after primary grades, you read to learn, and are no longer learning to read.

I love reading, and often prefer to curl up in my chair and read rather than watch television. I read to my son every day when he was little and tried to instill my love of books into him. These days I find myself reading a lot more, and am always found with my nose buried in a book

I don't think there is a set time that one should read each day but obviously the more you do it the better, I think! There are times when I just can't put a book down - I'm definitely a book-aholic - and as far as I'm concerned a book is far, far better than sitting down and watching the TV (unless of course it is an educational programme of some sort!) I should think that reading stimulates the brain whether it be an easy read or something educational or just a hobby. It gets your mind thinking. Children should be taught the pleasure of reading. I remember having a lot of problems reading when I was a kid but once I got the hang of it I loved all the myths and legends and fantasies that could be lived through those wonderful pages. I remember reading the Hobbit and then was given the Lord of the Rings - all four books were in the one volume. I couldn't put it down, even though it weighed a tonne! It is so much better for their minds than just sitting in front of a TV - they don't use their imaginations this way. To me reading is an essential part of my life. :)

Reading is good for your brain and mind. I read all day. It may not be a book or article. But, I tend to read a lot. I also enjoy reading.

I just read when i'm the mood. One thing that i hate from reading is when there is something that came to interupt me reading. That things that sometimes make me don't want to read again. Then when i'm in the mood, i do the read again.

I always read book when I have a free time and feel comfortable. Before go to bed, I always read book. That is the time I feel the most comfortable. I think read book is the thing, will make somebody relax and have knowledge.

I don't know about a set amount of time for reading each day but I do think it's important. I read daily, sometimes quite a bit each day, depending on how "into" my current book or books I am. I read to my son daily and he reads himself at age 5. I think that part of the reason that he loves books so much is that he has always seen me and my husband reading. I think that it definitely matters. I heard a quote once that said that "leaders are readers" or it might have been the other way around, but the point is clear either way. I don't believe it's a quota thing, but I do believe that it's important to continue reading for information and for pleasure because success is more likely for a lifelong learner. (Beyond that, it's really fun!)

I know this is not a good enough excuse, but I work three jobs, and am taking 12 hours of school. So unless its an article related to school, or if it is reading to my first grade student (in my education reading class, I have a student I read to once a week) I dont really read. I dont read for pleasure at all :( I should. One day I will have time to sit down a read a nice book. For now most of my free time is spent hear, talking to you kind folks :)

a set amount, probably not, though reading certainly improves your vocabulary, knowledge and stimulates the imagination. so it cant hurt lol! personally i LOVE reading, and read everyday for at 2 hours before going to bed. it drives me nuts to not have a book to read at night!

I don't think there is or should be a set amount of time for reading, especially when you're young as it can put children off if they are made to read a set amount. I don't know if I was unusual, when I first learnt to read as I would read at every opportunity and had finished the books we had to read for school on the day I got them. These days it varies, some days I'll read all day and others I won't at all or only in bed before I go to sleep.

I too am a book a Holic and am never without a book for myself and my grandchildren now..this teaches them to enjoy reading for the future and is a cheap way to entertain. I do watch tv some but if i had a choice I'd rather read. I try to finish a book every 3 days since i buy enough of them or trade with friends..no one should be able to tell you when and How to read..its your choice!
