Speeding Ticket - a $132 fine for doing 12 MPH over the limit.

Okay the street I live on has a posted speed limit of anywhere from 40 to 50 MPH. At the spot where it drops from 45 to 40 MPH there is a lot of people that speed terribly. The local police have a couple speed traps set up each day & night. I drive this route each night to pick my wife up from work so I know their presence is always there for the purpose of keeping the speed down. I was driving a little after 8 last night down east River Raod as I do each night. I had saw one of the speed traps sitting on the side of the road. I had cruise control set at about 43 MPH in a 40 MPH zone. Now as I approached a traffic light I saw the don't walk sign blinking so I knew the light was going to change. So I accelerated to 50 to get through the light so I did not catch it and have to sit at the light. Well Lo and behold! red & blue lights flashing in my rear view mirror. White spotlight shining into the drivers seat of my car. well I got pulled over and was issued a speeding ticket for doing 52 in a 40 MPH zone. $132 fine to be paid within a months time. ugghh! First ticket I have gotten in a long time. When was the last time you were issued a ticket? Have you a lead foot? Have you been issued many speeding tickets? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I've actually never gotten a ticket. I've been driving for 8 years almost. I've been with my husband when he has gotten them though. I almost got one once. My sister was driving my car and I was in the passenger seat. The cop pulled us over because the registration was expired on my car. (by one day) I had totally forgot. He fined my sister because as a driver you are supposed to make sure any car you are driving has those things. He said he could fine me also, but he let me off. Possibly because I was 7 months pregnant at the time. I paid my sisters fine since it was my fault. I'm not too much of a led foot, but i do speed up through lights too. I've just got lucky enough to not get caught. We live in a small area. Our town only has one cop and the town next to us only has a handful.

I had a span of time when I bought an old Cop Car at an auction that I got many speeding tickets. I think I had gotten somewhere around 15 tix in a 3 year span driving that Crown Victoria Po;ice Cruiser. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Ouch!! I have a lead foot too. This past weekend I went out of town with a friend. She was driving, she also has a lead foot. We had been cruising at about 80 for many miles. A state trooper pulled us over, he wanted proof of insurance/registration. At first she gave him the expired ones, then she found the current ones. He went back to his car, we sat there just knowing she was getting a ticket. He came back with a "warning" such a sweety. He said it was a clear day, dry and sunny, traffic was light and it was Sunday morning. We both said thanks and then I told him that a couple of old ladies owed him many hugs. He grinned, whew, we sure got lucky. After that 60 and 65 seemed slow, hehe.

Yeh that trooper sure did get lucky with not geting his hugs, specially from someone who looks like me, I probably scared him. I read some of your other responses. I bought an old sheriffs van from an auction before. That sure was a fun vehicle. The grandkids loved it, it had extra heavy duty springs and was souped up and fast. We could get airborn on this one hill we would go over. It was an Astro Van and had the 2 seats in front and then 2 benches. Plus it was funny seeing peoples expressions when you drove by them, they just saw the black and white color. They instantly would slow down. I made it to Greektown, parked and in the casino in 45 minutes, woohooo. I miss that van.

The city I lived in when I had the Crown Vic had a problem with teens cruising the streets and hanging out in parking lots late at night. I actually had the city cops call me asking me to drive through the Gas Station. The kids would see the cop car and drive off. Too funny. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

The police seem to be a little more stick in Minnesota than they are in Wisconsin... There's been times I've gone over 9-10 mph the speed limit and never had a ticket maybe I was lucky and they were eating there lunch or something I don't know.. Or they were looking for other people that are doing more wrong.. I know in Wisconsin they are more interested in truck drivers than really anyone or anything else.. One thing I really do hate though is when the they pull you over and put that spot light right in your side mirror it blinds you so you can't see anything.. They shouldn't be able to do that.. I think the red and blue lights are enough but than again I think they do that to make sure we aren't putting on our seat belts and things like that... I am really not sure... But no I wouldn't say I have a lead foot I have slowed down alot I mean I do drive the limits unless I am very much in a rush than again I shouldn't be doing it than either..

lol ya got lucky than.... Very true they do need to know what they are going up against, being a police officer is very dangerous work that's for sure last thing I'm sure they want is someone pulling something out on them like a knife or a weapon of some sort...

That's correct. In fact I have flew by WI State Troopers on 94 without them following me with their lights on etc. I've had some city WI police follow me a lot on the roads. Mostly EauClaire and Milwaukee city cops. I hate that blinding light but they do need to see what the people are doing as they are vulnerable so to say. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I am knocking on wood as I reply as I have never had a ticket yet....the closest I got turned out to be a highway patrolman that I knew personally and he just gave me a sign to back off! I did and didn't speed the rest of my trip....I considered that a sign that I might be a little lead footed! LOL

I'm now 35, and I have NEVER received a speeding ticket, or any other kind of ticket from the cops. But before you think I'm on a high horse, you need to know that I don't have my driver's license either. If I did have my license, I'm sure I would have had numerous traffic violations over the years. Granted, as a woman, I may have somehow been able to talk myself out of some of the tickets, if the cops were men. It's a sad but true stereotype. I have girlfriends who have shared stories about how they sweet talked themselves out of a speeding ticket. Some are better flirts than others. Lmao!

Well one doesn't need a licwense to be issued a tickt though. I hopw when you do get a license you remain ticket free. Too many tickets raise your insurance costs up a lot. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

You're right... it didn't occur to me that I could still drive without a license. I'm pretty "boring" in the sense that I tend to abide by the laws when it comes to stuff like that. (I say "tend to", because I don't have a perfect record.. .I'm just SO lucky I never got caught! ROFLMAO!!!)

Ugh! Bummer they nailed you on the speeding thing. I'm not sure how much a speeding ticket runs around here, but I don't think it's quite as high as what you got hit with. I've managed to sort of decrease the lead content in my foot over the past several years. I think that's mainly though, because I hardly ever travel anywhere without the kids in tow. I think there's that thing in the back of my mind saying 'Ya know, if you get caught speeding with the kids in the car, EVERYONE in the free world will know about it. . . especially the grandparents and anyone else you wouldn't want to know.' lol

Where do you live at? The lead in my foot turned into aluminum for the longest time as I slowed down drastically after a lot of tickets in a few years time so this one hurt badly. But I've learned my lesson. The last couple of times I have gone just under the speed limit in this area. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Sorry to hear about that Speedy Gonzales, LOL! I have a terrible lead foot but have really been trying to be more careful and other times I've just been lucky. I haven't gotten a ticket in like 3 or 3 and a half years and that's o.k. with me. I really try to always set the cruise whenever I go anywhere because I definately can't afford to pay a ticket. Even tickets for a little over the limit are really expensive.

However I know I would speed just like you, hehe. That ticket is a lot of money, I guess you will need to use your myLot earnings to pay for it, maybe? Do you speed a lot, Granpa Bob? It is a bit annoying that they change the speed limit in just one street. Sometimes I think they deliberately set up speed traps where people are likely to accidently speed just a little. I can understand speeding to get through an orange light that may turn red half way across. In my opinion that is unfair, but I guess like our system, fairness doesn't come into it. One of their favourite tricks here is to set up a hidden camera on the downhill slope of a 50 kph road. I have 8 points of speeding fines, & if I get to 12 I will loose my license.

Well that's the norm around my area it seems. There are many drivers that FLY by these areas. I've seen them myself. I have to admit that I was in the wrong. The light was still green when I went through it but was changing very soon. I guess I just wanted to avoid a stop at the light is all. Oh well, guess I pay and watch myself in the future. Some areas did have cameras set up at lights in the city to catch those that went through red lights. But an attorney took a few cases of people wrongly accused of this. The camera takes a photo of the license plates and issues the ticket to the owner of the vehicle not the driver. So that was wrong and now the cameras are turned off due to a supreme court ruling that it was illegally wrong to ticket the owners if they did not see who was driving when the infraction happened. I don't know how many are given here for moving violations like speeding etc. But I do know that back when I had the cop car I was one ticket away from losing my license for a years time. Plus my insurance more than doubled due to the amount of moving violations as well. I have never gotten a ticket for seat belt violations. I always buckle up before I even start the car. Grandpa Bob - here is the avatar for Grandpa Bob today
No, I never get speeding tickets, I'm "practically perfect in every way..." haha. Actually, I've taken to driving slower over the years now, I'll be one of those grandmas that irritate everyone eventually - not a good thing. Though around here everyone goes through those changing lights including me sometimes. No one starts up at the change of the light here - they wait for the speed demons trying to make the light. That is a nifty fine by the way - wow! I got my last ticket 10 years ago for expired license plate stickers. Oh and to the left is the avatar showing for you on the email notification I have. enjoy!

Getting pulled over by the cops is no fun - We all get caught at one point or another.
GRANDPA!! You knew they were there! It would be insane to even consider gassing the car with them around! Oh my what lessons we learn... the hard way! Oh well, water under the bridge now. The last ticket I got was a few years ago while living in Arkansas but I didn't agree with it and fought it in court with hubby's help and I beat it!!

When my hubby was alive there was a period when our car was in the garage for repair. He had had several tickets which I had to help pay so was glad in a way that he was on foot for a couple of days: no way he could get a ticket on foot right? wrong he jaywalked in Costa Mesa a town where the police are very vehemant about jay walkers so he came home with a ticket for jaywalking and I was dumbfounded then I had to laugh. cost us one hundred dollars wow.
