Does anyone suffer from shyness in public and if so, how do you deal with it.

I am extremely shy in public settings do not like to be the center of attention, ever. Recently, I was given a surprise party at work and just could not deal with the attention. How do you cope?

I used to be mega shy when I was young but somewhere along the line I found confidence in myself and some how i think it is a case of feeling confident inside takes over and it shows and you really begin to show it, I think at the start I bluffed through it a bit...
