I admit, I would live a much happier and fulfilling life if I can just learn to once and for all let go. I admit, I have a hard time forgiving and I dwell on past hurts. I wish I didn't. For those who are able to move on easier than I do, could you give me some tips? Because all of this dwelling on the negative does is, bring more negativity into your life which is sure not needed.

I am terrible about dwelling on the past hurts and forgiving people. It is not good, but I can't seem to let go of things for the longest time. I do finally at some point stop dwelling on it, but it is usually only because there is a new hurt that takes priority over the old. Then the hurt or anger I have about something does not seem so important. Too bad it takes something else hurtful to make it go away.

Yes I really do understand where you are coming from. I wish I could just let things roll off like some others can. I know logically that holding onto anger and other things like that are not good for you. I am trying to get better with it but I still find myself falling back into it.

Well Doll I just ask myself what I will gain by hanging on to it and what I will gain by letting go most often the letting go wins and I move on! xoxoxooxxoxo

Sweetie I am sorry you are like this I used to be once But when I got divorced 5 years ago I felt that I had come back to life, my life, the way I wanted it, not the way my X made it You might need some time out, time away, take lots of walks if you can, just get out and enjoy the nice Weather when you have it Sit with Friends and chat or go somewhere for a coffee with a Friend You need to get out and clear your mind and Heart It is hard I know that but I managed it took me a long time but I did it I had help though from my Children and from my lovely Man that I have been with 4 years now Hugs to you Sweetie and I hope that you will be able to forget and go forward

It is hard to let go and it took me a long time but as I have grown older I can see what is now important in my life and what I once thought was devastating I can now just walk away from. When it comes to people hurting me I am very strong now in my decisions. I will not change who I am and will always be there for my friends but if they do wrong by me I now end the friendship as I will not allow someone to treat me badly. For me, staying in a friendship that is causing me upset is far worse. Things happen for a reason and once you become secure in the choices you make for the right reasons you will then be able to look back and understand why you may the decisions you did even if they still hold quite painful memories. I hope you grow strong, never regret what you have done and if you do, there is always a way to change things if you really want to, even if it is just to give yourself peace of mind. Good luck!

Thanks for your response. I have a problem with trust as well because so many people have burned me in the past. I also at one time allowed others to use me but now I have gone the other direction, not giving others a chance! Neither is good.

Well the first step is done! you know what you have to do, you know what your doing wrong! So what do you think the next step would be ? i think you are smart enough to figure it out all on your own without our help. I used to dwell a lot on the past too.. but like you i came to some realizations. ;) Good luck mbs *hugs*

This was an interesting post. I have always had a hard time being able to really let some things go also. I thought I would let some stuff go and it would come back to haunt me later. This is something that I have really been working on with myself for the past few years. It takes work and time and it is nice to not have a bunch of negativity in one's life. I found that praying about things helps me a lot of the time.

Thats the thing, some things that I KNOW I should let go has come back to haunt me. And sometimes I wonder if I in a way bring it onto myself. I admire those who CAN let things go... and you are so right, holding onto negativity is a horrible thing but so many people do it anyway, even though its bad for you it in a way is comforting even though it makes you miserable, okay.. am I making sense? LOL I am just tired.

I used to be the same way. I would hold on to things for years and years and it would just eat at me. It wasn't until I gave everything to the Lord and was finally able to let go and forgive for all of the past hurts and pains of life. It is such a happier life now that i don't have those things buried deep inside of me. i was like a time bomb just waiting for the right moment to explode and it was such a miserable life, but now i am happier than i have ever been in my life. sometimes you just have to let go of things before it eats you away and there's no turning back. good luck and God bless

Thanks for your response, I have been an emotional eater because of this too, when in fact all of this was eating me up. Good to hear you were able to let your past hurts go.

Don't sweat the small things they are like grains of sand and not belong in the things you care for.Hating does so much damage to a person and dents their pysche too. I had to forgive my fatherfor moslesting me when I was seven and i have finally done itas the hate was making me feel ill.

You are right, I have to somehow learn to not sweat the small stuff like I frequently do. And I am sorry to hear this about what your father did to you.

i've been to counseling in my past to help deal with traumatic events and things of that nature. and to tell you the truth, what helped me the most was just time. i know it sucks but time heals all wounds. i've also found that talking to people you trust and your significant other also really helps. good luck
