What's your most hated household chore?

I have to admit that I have never been the world's best housewife. However, there's some things that I don't let slip and there's some things that I'll do anything to avoid. Now I absolutely detest remaking the beds after I've stripped them down to wash the linen. Taking it off is no problem and laundering it is no problem. But putting it back on is just horrendous, particularly the bottom sheet. Left to myself, I'd probably sleep in a pile of old towels rather than make the bed back up! How about you, what's your most hated household chore?

I hate the laundry, because unless everyone in the house is in their skibbies when I finish the last load, it is never finished! There is ALWAYS more to do.

Oddly, laundry is one of those jobs that I don't mind so much. There's something satisfying about a basket of clean clothes.

I hate window cleaning and dusting. Though I do dust once a week, I dont like making beds either, its the quilt that I hate as all my quilt covers somehow seems to be a bit bigger than my quilt!?!? I hate having to carry the hoover upstairs just to do the two bedrooms and hallway. By the time Ive cleaned the bathroom and popped downstairs I can guarantee their is hair in the sink from my boyfriend doing his hair!!! If I had the money I would pay for a cleaner to come once a week. I know some people who hired a cleaner but would tidy the place up just before the cleaner came so that she didnt think they were messy!?? How silly is that!

Having a quilt cover too large for the quilt is the opposite to me. Mine always seem to be too small for the quilt & end up shoving the last bits in through that tiny gap. Grrr! Maybe we should do a bedding swap?!

My most hated chore is definitly ironing i am just no good at it. Even my 15 year old son is better at it than me. I will only do it if i have to but luckily my partner is happy to iron.

Ironing & toilets seem to be coming up over & over. Ironing is just such a waste of time, so I don't do it!

Number one would be cleaning the bathroom. Number second would be folding the whites because of all the socks. I know what you mean about the bottom sheet, it's like you put it on and it just falls off the corners of the bed...takes me forever to get it right.

Oh that bottom sheet, it pops off one end so I hold it back on, then it pops off the other .... and so on for about 20 minute till I just dump the pillows on the bit that won't stay on!

I would say ironing- which I rarely ever do. And cleaning the toilet with boys in the house. I heard once that if you put the bottom sheet on by putting opposite corners on first (so the upper right corner then the lower left corner, for example) it goes on easier. I don't have a really hard time getting the sheets on my bed because I have nice deep pocket ones, but it might be worth a try!

Anything at all is worth trying to get bottom sheets on the bed easily! I normally put one end on, then sit on it to stop it popping off while I roll it down the bed & try to attach the other end.

I find I have got used to doing it all now but the one job I still wont touch is the toilet, my partner does that bless him as I really can not face it. Ones I try and avoid are normally polishing furniture I just find it so boring

Now I haven't got a problem with cleaning the toilet. You can do it at the end of a brush so it's not so bad!

Isn't that funny? - doing the laundry is probably my favourite of all the household jobs! I just feel that it's satisfying & quick. I don't like to iron it or put it away though!

Mine has to be dishes. With all of the problems that I have had with my lower back and my neck, I absolutely hate doing dishes. I don't know what it is about doing dishes that puts such a strain on you, but that's where it affects me. I've even tried using an industrial strength anti-fatigue mat, but that just didn't work. So now the dishes have become one of the childrens' chores.

Unfortunately, whenever the children have done the dishes at least 1/3 of them end up going back into the sink. My son isn't as observant and my daughter is afraid of hot water. We have to make her touch the grease left on dishes from the lack of hot water usage, but amazingly, she forgets by the second day when it's her day to do dishes again.

Kids! Love 'em! I reckon they can do it perfectly well actually, but create all these problems to encourage their parents to do it themselves ;-)

My son actually enjoys doing dishes, but unfortunately when he does them I have to clean up the river of water on the kitchen floor after hes done! I'm not sure that it actually saves me any energy in the long run.

Washing the windows is my first choice. I don't see a point in it when we don't use them much. I do wash the front door window so that I can peek out when I see the mailman coming. Secondly, dusting. I hate to dust and always have. I should do it more often than once a week but I don't. And pairing socks. I have a spare laundry basket where I throw all the socks because it never fails when I do laundry one gets eaten by the washer or dryer.

That might be true but I keep the dark curtains closed all year long because I like my house to be nice and dark. I don't know why but that's how I have been since I have lived on my own for almost 13 years.

If you washed your wondows wouldn't you get more light into the house? Not that I can preach on window washing - it's yet another household task that I skip!

Even a dishwasher has to be stacked, but it certainly makes life easier. Particulary if you can convince your family to put things straight into it. Easier said that done sometimes, I know! The cat in your avatar picture, by the way, looks just like one of mine did. Her name was Ellie & she was a rescue cat. She was lovely :-)

Im no house work freak Moo...but im probaly just like everyone else..i do like things reasonablyt idy...then at least it looks as if you care!!..i dont mind any of the day to day chores really....none of them drives me to drink!!..as yet!!....maybe the main bugbear would be the dog hair!!!!...my little dog is well into his 80s in human years lol...and boy does he shed his coat!!...when that starts i feel as though i should have a vacuum cleaner attached to my hip!!...plus his hairs are spiky and they `pit` into the carpets!!!..so they are a devil to get out!!..in years gone by ive thinned his coat out with electirc clippers..but hes old now..and i think he needs his warmth!!!..so i dont worry anymore!!...but there are times..i admit ..that i could scream!!!!!!!!!lolol..but i love him dearly!!

Dog hair is the absolute pits to try & remove from furnishings. I stupidly let our dogs in the car! It's a good job it's an old workhorse rather than a beautiful on, because I swear there will now be dog hair in there for ever. When I sweep in the house I sometimes reckon I could knit a whole new dog with all the hair I collect.
@GreenMoo (11833)

You must be able to use dog hair for something useful. Now there's the subject of a new discussion :-)

Hi Moo....agreed....dogs hairs are a nightmare!!!...ive wondered how these hairs could be used for other things!!lol...so i tried putting them in little clumps in the garden...to see if the birds wanted to make `duvets` from them!!!..but to no avail Moo...i had to pick them up and bin them!... Our daughter has just got a new lounge suite...and the girl over the road wanted the old one...which was a nice tidy one..!and a few days after her having it..she said to my daughter...you havent got a dog have you??...my daughter laughed and said that they were a present left behind from when we visited with our little dog!!...you just cant get rid of them!!!!

My most hated chore is folding the laundry after its washed. The clothes are just going to get unfolded again. So why fold them? :) The bed on the other hand, I hate making it. Why make it when your just going to get back into it?

OH MY GOD that is too funny, I am the worst at putting pillow cases on pillows, Pulling them off is no problem, but putting them on SUCKS BIG TIME. Also, I do not like to put dishes in the dishwasher, I do not mind putting dishes away but other than that, yeah no fun for me. I use to not like cleaning the bathroom but our bathroom is really nice and so easy to clean that I do not mind cleaning our bathroom anymore. I also do not like taking the garbage out.....It is not that big of a deal but it is such a chore for me. Wow I have a lot of chores I do not like to do.

Its funny you posted this, I thought about posting a similar one the other day but I didnt. My most hated chore is dusting. I could dust every day and still not be caught up. It drives me NUTS. We have woodstoves for heating in the winter time and everything is dusty.. constantly.

We heat with a wood stove too, but it's the mess on the floor we get that gets to me. Ash from the box & bits of wood chip & bark & just mess, I'm forever sweeping.

I hate all household chores, from the simplest to the more complex. I just hate doing anything that my parents tell me to that involves cleaning. Like you, I also hate changing the sheets and making my bed. The first time I was told to do it, I actually enjoyed it but as it got to become a habit, it became more and more tedious. I also hate taking out the trash.

Me and you both! I hate housework, always have from being a child, think it is because I was made to do chores for pocket money as a child! Mind you in a way it was better as a child because now I am an adult I do not get pocket money for doing it! I have 4 kids and so there is always housework to do, I hate putting the washing away I think that is the most boring chore and wiping the skirtings and the doors!!

I used to get paid per item for doing the family ironing. But my mum was a hard taskmaster (or i was a sloppy ironer!) because I was forever having to redo it! Put me off for life - I now don't even own an iron!

I think the most hated household is ironing. Nowadays, washing of clothes is easier, but ironing still the same. You have to do it manually and it takes too much of your time doing it especially the long sleeve clothes and those that need to be iron properly such as your coat and dress, in short your formal attire. I just hate doing all this stuff. Keep posting, Mickey

I absolutely hate doing dishes. I hate, hate, hate them. If there's any way I can get out of doing it. I do it. I know there's dishwashers and all that. But you still have to rinse, and fill, rinse and fill. It's gross. I don't mind doing my own. Just other peoples. Ick.

Hey LuckyCharm, I think you need ot be grateful there are dishwaashers. Imagine you had to do all that by hand! I don't have one, and I leave the dishes until we have nothing clean to eat from before I'll do them!
