I have had glasses since I was 5 and have been using contacts since the sixth grade. I have never had problems with my contacts but I make sure to take extra care of them, clean them, replace them often (I use disposable contacts) and I wear my glasses at night when I get home from work. I think contacts are great but only if you use them properly. If not, you could damage your eyes.

I couldn't be bothered with all the putting in and taking out of contact lenses, so I've never used them. I always wear glasses, when needed. A lot of people who have worn contact lenses have either had problems with them hurting their eyes, or they've lost one, and have to buy another. So another reason for not having them is they can come a bit expensive if you keep losing one and having to replace it.
Brightest Blessings.

i prefer glasses definitely... i never like to wear a contact lens as i am scared and i can't imagine putting something into my eyes by myself... can't bring myself to do that... also, i heard that contact lenses make our eyes very dry and there is a high risk of infections which may cause blindness if you are not hygenic enough... so i agree with you that glasses are much more safer... take care and have a nice day...

I wore contact lenses for over 20 years when my health changed and they began to get very painful. So, I've been wearing my glasses, only, for the last couple of years. I would love to start wearing contacts again, but they still bother my eyes and they cost too much because I need torix lenses now. So, I will wait a little while longer.
I feel glasses are very safe, but I hear that contact lenses help the eye lens hold it's shape better, especially when you wear them for a long time. But, you don't want to wear them too long because your eye can get infected more easily with contacts.

Well, it sounds as though your son has made his decision to stick with wearing glasses and if he's happy then why change? But, I have to say contact lenses have improved tremendously over the years and are now much more comfortable than they used to be. The risk of infection is greatly reduced also with the daily disposable lenses, just wear them and throw them away each day. And they are not particularly expensive. Most opticians (in the UK) allow a new potential wearer to have a free trial for a month which does give you the chance to find out whether they are suitable or not. If he's interested in giving them a try it wouldn't cost anything and he might be pleasantly surprised at how comfortable they are.
