Politicians and Diapers - Both Need to be Changed for the Same Reason

My states primary is like 15 days away and I am soo soo sick of having Obama and Hillary shoved in my face every time I turn around. I DON'T CARE! Am I the only person in this country that realizes that 98% of everything that comes out of a presidential candidates mouth is 110% certifiable bullshiat? Even if a candidate has the best intentions and really means they are going to make the changes they say they are going to make when the get elected to office, they really don't have the kind of power to do any thing. Think about it. Most people view the President as the most powerful and influential person in the United States government. While he does wield a great deal of political might, his effect on the law-making process is limited. Only Congress can write legislation. Whereas only Congress may create legislation, it is difficult for them to pass a bill without the President’s approval. When Congress passes a bill, they send it to the White House. The President then has three options: sign the bill into law, veto the bill, or do nothing. But even if the president vetoes the bill, Congress can override a presidential veto, but to do so, two-thirds of each chamber must vote in favor of the bill. And if the president doesn't do anything with it and congress is in session within 10 days they can pass the bill without a president's signature! Now you would think that people know this. You would think people would care more about who is in congress and not spend forever whining and complaining about who is president. See why I hate politics? She why I hate politicians? See why I don't care? How about you? Do you care? Why do you vote? Do you honestly believe all of the empty promises presidential candidates make? Do you really think your vote counts?

Cyn darling. You know that I don't comment on other country's politics. But to show willing. All politicians, even those that we might think are nicer than the rest, are megalomaniacs. Their egos know no bounds and the depths to which they stoop are as yet uncharted by normal people. If they can win your vote by kissing your avatar they will. If they can win your vote by telling you that it is outrageous to kiss your avatar, they will. There is nothing, money, power, jelly beans that they will not use if they think that it will win your vote. Once they have it though. They will contradict everything they said before. They will cheat and lie. They will do anything to cling grimly to the political ship of State, and do anything to anybody that comes near to casting them off. But do vote my darling. It's your democratic duty. Just remember, it doesn't matter who you vote for, the Government always get in.

I agree with P1ke and he gets my vote. He's right Cyn. It's your right - exercise it. You never know - in ten years if you're pissed off enough, YOU might run for office and be the first politician that's not just outspoken and cynical, but HONEST! Oh my! Now THAT would be progress. I will not be entering a separate response, because as usual, someone has said what I would have said, only better!

Thank you for giving some a much needed civics lesson. I've never been able to figure out what some people think; on one hand they think the President is all-powerful and can fix anything and everything all by himself and on the other hand they think Congress can also do everything they want regardless of how big a majority the party in power has or who's in the White House. Our current fearless leader has done more to undercut the Congress than anyone else has with signing statements and executive orders but even he isn't the all powerful figure some think he is. Of course the Democratic majority that came into power after the 2006 elections hasn't been able to keep all their campaign promises! They're not even close to having the votes they need to override a Presidential veto without considerable help from the GOP. All of that having been said, I still think my vote counts, or I sure hope it does, and I think it's our duty to exercise our right to vote. That may sound like a self-contradictory statement but I believe it to be true. Annie

Am I correct in assuming you live in PA? Shoot, I live in Illinois and I'm sick of seeing all the campaign stuff, and our primary was forever ago (or so it seems) I couldn't even imagine what it's like to be you. I can't necessarily say I hate politics, I just think we have lost our way over the years, and I'm pretty sure the election system we have today is NOT what the founding fathers had in mind. I still care, although I do believe it is a "lesser of all evils" as someone else here said. And I vote because my grandfather landed on the beach at Normandy, my father in law still has shrapnel in him from Vietnam, and my husband was a Marine. I feel as though if I don't vote all of their sacrifices were for nothing. As far as my vote counting, with all this electoral college BS I'm really not sure. I think the whole process from elections, right down to the way our government works is way too complicated for the average American to understand, and that is part of what holds us down as a people.

"I am soo soo sick of having Obama and Hillary shoved in my face every time I turn around." All of that should have been in bold. Signed and seconded. "Am I the only person in this country that realizes that 98% of everything that comes out of a presidential candidates mouth is 110% certifiable bullshiat" Well maybe. Because over here I think its a range of 120-200% BS coming out of their mouths. And Cyn, its not just Obama, Hillary and McCain(with their non-talking). Some congressmen and representatives are on record with their nonsense (several were going too far and tried to breach the 1st Amendment; you've also got others with claims for more spending, more taxes (includes gasoline)). The only reason I "care" is to see what happens and see what is going on. At the very least I can tell what happens and I can predict what could happen. I refuse to be anyone asking "what happened" when things run amok. While a vote is a voice its terrible when people only have to decide from the worst of the worst. Not only that, everyone knows the campaigning is just a ploy and as soon as the politician gets the office... the constituents are just an afterthought and its back to satisfying themselves and their interests(lobby groups, business ties, etc). Once a politician is in office, they don't need you anymore. "...Now you would think that people know this." What the political process? Nope. All that matters is who can be blamed, and the blame always goes to the top. Even US history and elections reflect this. Presidents inheriting recessions or aftermath from other events, they don't stay in office and they get the vitriol of the populous (Hoover, VanBuren, Pierce). Of course the policies brought forth are partly responsible, other issues like the economy, legislative and the political realm itself are also part of the entire scheme.

Two words: He11 No! One day maybe but not this time around. It doesn't seem anyone has their stuff together. I lean to the left of course..but as long as Hill is gone. I'm good. I couldn't vote for her if my life depended on it. I would rather just not vote. I think the only votes that really count are those of the electoral college at the end. Hard working Americans don't really have a voice though the government would like you to believe that you do. Sad...

i hate politics!! I have never understood them either. I hate watching that crap and listening to it. If I understood I might give a damn but, I dont. :) My family is more important then worrying about what moron is sitting in the White House thinking they can "run" us! We dont have freedom in the USA like we used to thats for sure.

Whoo hoo thank you so much for realizing and posting the fact that the President is not the extremely powerful person so many seem to think he is. It was very refreshing and nice to read. You are so right that even if they do mean everything they say it doesn't matter. They only have so much power. We've already had our primaries so right now they are ignoring this state but like you I'm very sick of Clinton and Obama. I don't care what they do so long as they don't get into office. I'm so over politics. So much of it right now isn't the truth anyways, its whatever the press decides and publishes. The press when it comes to politics is so biased lately that the tabloids are more legitimate half the time. I do think my vote counts to some extent. I also think if I don't vote I don't have a right to complain. So yes I will vote this year and just keep my fingers crossed on what the out come will be.

It's all about voting for the lesser of the two evils.
