I'm on webcam. Let me spruce myself up.

If you know that you are going to be on a webcam chat, say with a family member of friend. Or even a total stranger, do you brush your hair, smarten your self up beforehand. Or are you happy to be seen in what you've got on, or off. I shall be doing one soon and I feel that I ought to make an effort. But I don't know why! I don't tart myself up when someone phones or comes to the door. So why on the webcam?

LOL, so let me picture this....
P1ke 'tarted' up! ROFL
Sorry - lost it for a moment there. I'm ok now................ROFL, no I'm not!LOL
Webcam's rather scare me so I don't have one. I have to get dressed to answer the door so it's a good thing no one ever comes to it, as my favorite outfit is only lipstick and heels, I rather think a webcam would reveal too much and I would become an internet scandle. Now there's a thought............I think I just may look into this webcam thing after all. Look for me on you tube! LOL

That would depend on who I'm talking to. If it's a private web chat, for instance between me and my sisters or Mum, then I'd just wear my normal stuff, even if it is a nightshirt and dressing gown. If it's going 'live', then I'd do myself up a bit, it wouldn't matter if I was wearing bottoms though as my legs would be under the table, you know, like newsreaders, they don't wear bottoms because they don't have to, except the ones on channel 5. Where was I? Right, yes, I did do a web thingy on YouTube a while ago, I put a little bit of make up on and wore a decent top to do it. The only reason I put make-up on though was so as my features showed up better as my webcam wasn't a very good one. I did do my hair nicely though. Hmmm, I'll try and find it for you.

Well, I wouldn't know where to start with a webcam. We've got a camera that can do all that sort of stuff but I don't know how to do it. However, if I did have the first idea of what to do with it, I'd be the same as I am every other time and not make an effort. If someone doesn't like the way I look, that's their problem and that goes for webcams too. I would make sure I looked reasonable though. I probably wouldn't sit in my pyjamas (as I am now!) or anything like that if there was a webcam about!

LOL. PJs are acceptable so long as they are presentable. I often wear mine first thing in the morning at the computer- see I must be old. I wear pjs. But I think that most of us would prefer to be seen properly clothed. I would stop short of a dinner jacket though. Oh that it still fitted me!

I hate webcams and banned them from our house because of this reason I quite often fall out of bed stumble to the pC and sit in front of it in either no clothes or hardly any clothes, if we have a webcam I know that my daughter would leave it on and the whole of her class would see me sitting in my birthday suit!

ROFLMAO: That is so funny. Make that call at the right time and you might hit their human biology class! At least that way it would be educational. I only use the webcam by appointment. When I am not ready for it, the whole program is shut off on the computer.

I do brush my hair when I am on cam. I think it is an involuntary reaction. I also wash my face and brushes my hair and I get smarter when I am on webcam. I also put an extra light on to make my face look more clearer in the webcam.

Yes I would make myself look as nice as possible. I think it is because I don't want them to think I am a slob and just being lazy. But then again they are probably in the same state as me too so it really shouldn't matter. LOL

I have a webcam on my desk top computer, but don't use it often, because I'm usually on the laptop now. However, when I do use it, I always check the status of my hair (and makeup if it's early enough in the day that I still have it on). I won't even open the window for my friend until I've checked for myself to see how I look on the camera.
Sheesh.. writing that out and rereading it makes me feel so shallow. Lol! I'm like you, I don't fix myself up (much) when I open the door or go to get the mail, so why should this be any different? But it is. I would do the same primping if I knew a friend was coming over or I was going out to meet them. So to me, it's about what makes me feel better about myself, vanity and all.

Thank you for saying that you don't think I'm shallow. I forget that people can't always read my thoughts. lmao! If they could, I'd be in BIG trouble!!! ROFLMAO!!!

When I used to use my webcam I would make sure I looked "cute" before I would turn it on. But that was back in the days of dial up and the picture was grainy and would be a good 2 minutes behind what I was actually doing.
Right now I am sitting here with bed head in my night shirt and a bandage on my hand scowling. Certainly not a pretty picture for a webcam. lol

the only time i used the web cam was to talk to my hubby....we hadnt seen eachother in 6 months because he was out on missions in afganastan and yes i did my hair and make up and sat at the computer like a girl getting ready for her first date i was ready at noon and waited till about 8pm for him to finnaly get on by then it didnt matter because i was so happy to see him i could care less what i looked like lol so yes i did make my self look the best i could to show him that i am doing just fine and still looking hot! that i didnt let my self go :-)

Tara thank you. I certainly don't think that you sounded rude. I posted this discussion so that people can respond. You are as entitled just as much as anybody else. Trust me, if someone is rude I let em know!
You must have missed your husband do much. I don't blame you for sprucing up. I know from being away myself that you want to show your other half that you are fine and looking after yourself. Even though seeing them on camera is wonderful. it still rips you in half not being able to touch doesn't it. Hope that he's back safe and sound now.

I've never used a webcam but I wanted to show your discussion some love.
I do think web cams are kind of creepy though.

Thank you for the love Skinnychick. I know what you mean by webcams being creepy - sort of looking in on you when you are in your safest place - at home. But they can be fun (if you've brushed your hair of course). You do have to behave like you are actually sitting with the person. So no distracted scratching of unmentionable bits, or yawning, pulling rude faces etc. LOL

Well, for me it actually depends on the person I am going to webchat with. If I am comfortable with him or her, it doesn't matter how I look or dress. There would also be the kind of people whom I feel I have the need to make my self up. It's one of those people I am not sure of. The kind of people which makes you feel that they will say something on what you look like.
