How often do you do it?

Rating other members, do you even do it? I tend to rate the member that starts a discussion that I'm responding to. I also rate everyone who responds to my own discussions. I personally give out mostly positives. I don't give someone a negative if I don't agree with their opinion, because really, they are entitled to their opinion, and just because it's not what I agree with, doesn't mean that it's negative! The only time I really give someone a negative is if they post referral links in my discussions, or in someone else's discussions. Also, I give negatives for people that seem to have answered the question without actually reading the full discussion. Like for instance, I used "How often do you do it?", as my headline, I may get someone thinking I'm talking about picking their nose, or taking a shower, or whatever they have on their mind at the moment. If I get a response that's just completely out of whack and has nothing to do with my topic, then yes, that person is going to get a negative. What about you, how often do you rate other members?

I rate the discussion starter and any responses to my response from the discussion starter (you). I also rate everyone that responds to my discussions. I have only ever given one negative rating out to someone and that was because they baited me into an argument. Not because the discussion I started even warranted an argument. I simply started something about some success I was having and that person posted a one word response back to me in a very snarky tone. She was new and, if I remember correctly, hadn't even gotten 100 posts under her belt yet and it really ticked me off that she would do that. So, I gave her a negative rating because she deserved it. I don't care if people disagree with me. That is fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinion...like you said. But, when someone specifically tries to bait me into an argument for absolutely no reason. The topic was literally not controversial at all. She just felt like being a twit. Otherwise, everyone else has gotten a positive rating. If you respond to me whether it is in my discussion or in response to my response, as long as you are respectful, you get a +.

THANKS FRO POSTING MY FRIEND ALTHOUGH IT IS SIMILAR TO THE DISCUSSION I POSTED EARLY THIS DAY BUT STILL I WILL COMMENT THIS GOOD TOPIC. PLEASE CHECKED MY DISCUSSION: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1466875.aspx YEAH I AGREE WITH YOU, IT SO HAPPEN THAT A PERSONS MADE A COMMENTS THAT RELATED TO YOUR POST AND SAY SOMETHING AGAINST IT YOU WILL RATE THEM NEGATIVE. LIKE WHAT YOU DID, STILL I RATE THEM POSITIVELY. BUT I HATE PEOPLE POSTING THEIR REFERRAL LINKS ON THEIR DISCUSSIONS SO I RATE THEM NEGATIVE. MOST OF THE TIME ON MY ACTIVITY I ALWAYS RATE THE COMMENTS AND DISCUSSIONS.

Hmm, I wasn't even aware that you started that discussion. I usually don't check to see if there is already a discussion that has been started on a topic before I post it. I figure, that, well it was posted at another point in time, so maybe the people that didn't see it, will respond to mine. I know that I hardly EVER get a response to past discussions, so how often does someone else? Oh well, I will check out your discussion, and respond, since you are responding to mine. Happy Mylotting.

I usually rate positive when i like the post... Don´t rate when it´s indeferent to me and rate negative if people only are interested in making non sence responses. I think rate system is good for punish bad members. It´s a way to easy the job of people that work hard in mylot team.

When I start a discussion I usually rate members or friends who have responded to my discussion. They are usually rated positively. Those responses that are not in agreement with me I still rate them positively because as you have said they are entitled to their opinion and if they have raised a good point or has explained their side well. Those who are rude I just leave them and do not give them a rate. Neither do I give them a negative rating. After several responses I choose the best response.

I have only rated a member twice. And I guess according to the star next to my name that I have been rated also?(I don't know how that works.) But I do know that both of the rate have been positive, one was for someone who posted a topic. But as someone else already said it comes down to opinion, when rating positive or negative.

I rate every discussion that I answer. I only rate the person that started the discussion usually though. Once in awhile a comment will stand out in someone else's discussion and I will rate that too. I think I have only rated a discussion negative a couple of times ever. I will also rate every person that responds to one of my own discussions. I don't think I have come across a comment that doesn't apply to my own discussions yet. I don't start discussions often. I think I only have 8 or 9. I do see them in others though.

Now days I rate everyone with whom I have posted a response and all theothers on the same page as I am trying with my postive responses to wipe out the happy trigger finger who is giving out so many negatives for no reason except he or she does not agree with our responses which is against mylot rules. we are not supposed to give a negative rating just because we do not agree with someone else's thinking in a response.I only give negatives if the person responding has not bothered to read mydiscussion and shows that in his response or has called me a nasty name.

Just like you do, I also rate everyone who responds to my discussions and when I come across an interesting response by someone in another discussion. I have never given a negative rate (so far). I don't think everyone is aware of ratings here. I think most would just post and post not knowing that there was a need for rating to be done as well.

I, like you, rate everyone that has responded to a discussion I have started, or a discussion I have responded to, including the person who started it. It doesn't take much to get a positive rating from me. As long as you responded with something close to the subject matter, I will rate it positive. Even if you don't agree with what I am saying, as long as you post your disagreement in a respectful manner, I will rate it positive. Also, I don't rate all referral links negative. Sometimes, the referral link is still relevant to the discussion, as long as it is, you will still get a positive rating from me. The only things that get negative ratings from me are I agree responses, derogatory and hurtful statements, responses that have nothing to do with the discussion, and links that have nothing to do with it either. Stay away from these type of responses, and you are good to go with me.

At first I didn't know enough about the system. Then I started rating responses to my own discussionsm and to discussions where I was awarded a best response. Now I am rating every good discussion and response I read because I have am getting into the habit and remembering to do it. I think it is important that I should rate good responses and discussions because other members have been rating mine and adding to my reputation. If I don't think it's a good response I leave it. I only use negative rating when I think it is an unfair response. I will give a positive rating to a response I don't agree with it, if it is well argued.

Well, I'm still learning about the ratings system and, with shame, have to admit I haven't been rating like I probably should. Initially, I didn't really realize what it was all about. Then I figured out about the payments. Then I learned that all sorts of things can affect how much is earned each day, including ratings. So, I'm trying to make a deliberate effort to rate people. I haven't felt inclined to give a negative yet, but if someone is answering just so they can have an answer recorded, I might simply not rate them at all. (Like being asked "do you...?" and all they say is "yes" or "no" without any other description.) If they are extremely negative or bordering on insulting, then I might consider a negative rating. Some responses I've seen seem to be trying to be on topic, but aren't quite there - like the person is confused about it. I don't rate those either. If I can tell that there is a language barrier (their native language isn't English), I won't rate them either because ours is a tough language to learn. But I want to apologize to anyone I might not have rated while I have been on this MyLot learning curve. It's a habit I'm still working on.
