As a lot of my friends here on myLot know, I love burning candles. And I also love my candy. Well I burned the last of this candle recently and did not know what to do with the nice jar and lid so I saved it. Well I bought a huge bag of Jelly Belly jelly Beans and hate leaving them sit in a bag so I dug the jar from my closet. It works great. I just refill it each night after I am done munching. Do you save old cans, tins, or jars to use for candy dishes at all? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

storage jars - how we utilized the broken freezer, dry goods storage. on the door shelves you will spy many glass jars I use to store dried beans and other goods.
my mother would always save her cookie tins and stationery boxes for zippers and trimmings that she rescued from clothing that was being discarded or cut to rags. but I really like glass jars. I save them for many purposes - most of them go for storing foods though. take a look....

Yes I do! I'm actually somewhat of a nut when it comes to saving jars.. I save them for putting left overs in, and for other things.. especially wide mouth jars which are easy to put leftovers in..

Yeah the wide mouthed jars are great for soups and sauces to be saved in. My dad must have 1,000 baby food jars with junk in them at the farm. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Hi Grandpa Bob, I did know about the candy, but can't specifically remember about the candles. I have lots of nice candles here, and should start burning them. I love the scented ones. I really enjoy jelly beans too, but haven't had any in ages. I save some of these things, and have an old 'Jersey Milk' collector's tin, that my daughter uses for coins. I always save those different types of tins, that the cookie assortments come in. I usually get a couple at Christmas time. Happy Munching!

I have some Danish Butter cookie tins too, as well as others. This Christmas I got a really nice assortment of Peak Frean's cookies, in a pretty collector tin. I reuse these tins, when I take any type of dessert to a party, etc. I'm going to have to start burning those candles. I have lots of different scented ones, and I think they'd be great to relieve stress.

What a good idea you have. Here is what I do with empty jars. I have a very small kitchen and not a lot of cupboard space for supplies so I save certain glass juice bottles. When they are washed and dried I keep them and fill them up to store sugar, flour, rice, cornmeal, oats etc. It saves a lot of space and since they have narrow necks they pour out nicely without spillage and the cupboard is easy to keep neat and clean. The secret is to have all the same type of jars. I also save jam and honey jars. I live near vast lake shore and park land, so in the summer my walking friend and I collect wild raspberries, blackberries and saskatoon berries, also wild grapes in the fall. I make jam, jelly and sirop with those and put them in the saved jars. By now of course it is all gone. Can't wait for summer to come. I also buy honey from a hobby bee keeper. He charges $ 4.50 for a 2 pound jar, but if you bring back his jars he gives you .50 off for each jar. I don't save pickle jars. The smell never seems to go away.

I like candles but I have never saved the jars. I do save the metal cookie tins so that I can give cookies away at Christmas time. I am always making cookies and we never eat them all so it is best to give them away. Enjoy your jelly belly jelly beans! Those are my favorites!!!

Used Jars - recycleing used jars is a wonderful idea
I've been saving jars left and right for my dad lately. My parents have moved and now he needs jars to separate all his screws, nuts and bolts. I'd much rather give him something in plastic than jars because of the glass breaking if it were to fall but so far I've been able to give him only a few.

Yeah the glass breaks after too much moving them with the srews and bolts etc in them. I've seen that happen with dads "collection". HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

It's funny that I've come across this discussion right now. I was just working on my basement for a bit (oh the stuff!!! ack!!!), and I came across a box with about 60 glass baby food jars.. the taller ones. All are label free, cleaned out, and all have their lids. I kept them since the twins were infants (they're 7 years old now lol), thinking that they might come in handy for something. I've used about 50 of them already, to hold and sort various craft items (like foam alphabet pieces... each jar is labeled with whatever letter is in it, various sized googly eyes, etc). The problem is, I really don't have use for them anymore, and I would like to find someone who could use them. I might just have to put them out into recycling tomorrow night, and hope that someone in the townhouse complex I'm in will have a use for them. I don't recall ever reusing glass jars for candy holding. I tend to put those sorts of things in ziploc baggies. Some months I swear I keep the ziploc company in business! lmao!

We use a lot of baggies as well. We shop at Sams Club for groceries and buy in bulk so we need the baggies to split the large pacj=kages into smaller ones. So we keep them in buissiness a lot as well. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Usually I don't save jars but I do recycle them. I have a few candles that haven't burned down all they way yet that are in really pretty jars that I will want to keep. The picture of the one you showed looked great. Something like that would make a good gift.

That's very pretty, all kindsa colorful! I save pretty jars and such for lots of things - vases for flowers, for cotton balls or Q-tips in the bathroom, that sort of thing. Right now I'm using all sorts of containers for my seedlings, but we've covered that in other discussions.

I reuse the big ones after I rinse them out. I put flour, dried beans, and other foods in them. Just wondering, but how did you get the last of the candle wax out of the jar? I usually don't reuse candle jars (except for putting more candles in) bc I can't ever get it really clean!

I save decorative jars, and then try to make things out of them. I have nicely shaped jelly jars that I put citronella oil in, then got those fiberglass wicks, and have patio lamps that repel mosquitoes.

I sure do. I also save coffee cans and especially the nice containers they sell now. I got two small cans of coffee because it was on sale so I saved both of the containers and now use them for croutons. That's better than leaving them in the bag to get stale. Annie

We save coffee cans and set them on the stove for grease disposal. After it gets about half full we get rid of the can and start a new one. The jelly beans stick together if left in the bag. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Hi GRANDPA BOB! I do save and keep all the beautiful jars and use them for candy dishes or cookies. And for the tin cans, bottles, glass jars, plastic containers that I don't keep, I give them to a young boy here who collects them in our neighborhood and he in turn sell them to help in his studies. Just my thoughts dear. Take care and have a nice day! :)

Those jelly beans look mighty fine I have to say, never mind the jar! I absolutely love jelly beans, I do not buy them very often though, due to the fact that I cannot just have a few. I have to eat the whole lot!
