Got a nice surprise about an hour ago when I checked my bank account on line..a charge of nearly $500 attributed to paypal was on it along with several hundred in overdraft fees..what a nice surprise this afternoon. The bank can't solve it because it was with paypal..and unfortunately paypal gives the person responsible a full week to respond to the claim I filed. Which means I'm out of pocket nearly a grand. How did it happen? The guy who thought he was invincible to online fraud finally got beaten. I was selling an item on ebay, had a winning bidder. I gave him the info to send me payment then he dropped off the map. The charge on paypal appears a few days later...if somebody appears sketchy..they probably are. And now I have a huge headache to figure out. Why does this have to happen to meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee?

Well paypal is going to give the guy that has my money 1 week to respond to the claim I filed with them. They mention something about refunding me before then but don't go into much detail on how that works. Since the guy used a non-existant ebay auction I can't take it up with ebay. And my bank won't do anything until paypal resolves it because the transaction wasn't made through the bank directly. So right now, I wait on paypal and I try to make do with the little cash I have. I've already overhauled my email addresses, making new ones with obscure passwords..the works. Not gonna let this happen again.

oh i see glad to hear they will refund your money, still i guess it would suck to have that happen and have to wait on top of that happening. glad to hear you'll take extra steps for security, one can't be too careful. but dont feel too badly it could happen to anyone even Bill Gates if he runs his own software lol

An update: Tuesday I received a package from the guy that took my money. My guess is that he was trying to sell an iphone (never opened the package but thats what paypal said it was) and couldn't find a buyer for his price so he figured he would take my money, send me the iphone and I wouldn't bother with him. Unfortunately for him, iphone's don't work with my service and I have no interest in switching..I also like my credit not being screwed up. Sooooo.. Fastforward to today. I call my bank, they tell me they have my money and are just now finishing up my account. Which means good credit again by tonight..awesome! Now I just get to wait to see when we prosecute this guy.. :)

That is a really sad experience and I hope that will never happen to me. How could that have happened? And seeing that this post is a few months old has this been resolved at all?

it's really a great surprise because of what was happening to your paypal account. many people online want to hacked others account and we must be careful in handling this matter. never trust immediately to strangers. i am afraid also that my account will be hacked so i am more careful now. thanks for the info my friend.

That's a nightmare. I'm just starting to use paypal. What information did you give to the person? What would you advice new users to watch out for? Can you be more specific on the details. I would be thankful if you could state more about what happened. Thank you for sharing this information to us. It would prevent more people to fall into that trap. Happy mylotting.
