All the time - in fact, WITH the vegies. Tonight we had hamburgers with raw fries and fruit cocktail. My dad always loved peaches, so we'd have peaches with our meals quite often. It's a great way to get fruit, especially if you're like me and don't really eat it at any other time. Strawberries are high in Vitamin C, so why not? I don't like them, but if you have them, why not serve them. They're not just for dessert. In Europe, fruit is often served with breakfast along with lunch meats and cheeses, breads, cereal and yogurt. It's just a good thing to have whenever.

Oops - sorry about that. Maybe it's more a regional term. Raw fries are raw sliced potatoes fried without being cooked first. Home fries are cooked potatoes that are sliced and fried (called cottage fries in some places). We're in South Jersey, so maybe it's more our area. Never thought about it before.

Pushing any kind of uncooked and unprocessed fruit and veggies is always a good idea. Even if you pair them with mac and cheese or processed fish, the fresh fruit is a great idea. I think it helps to mentally pick a fruit or vegetable first and then determine what to serve with it. It is too easy to heat up some mac and cheese with some fish sticks and forget about the healthy stuff.

I don't normally serve fruit instead of a vegetable at dinner. We sometimes have both though. A lot of times for lunch my daughter will have fruit instead of vegetables though. Like tonight, we had corn on the cob and a fresh fruit salad.

Once have a period, I do not like take in vegetalbe in the meal, so my mother let me have more fruit.
But it is said that vegetable contains more fibre and more vitamins, so tha fruit can not instead of it total.
Now I do not use fruit to instead of vegetable.

Odd meal... lol
I do braised, spiced pears at Christmas. They're great hot with dinner and then, later, cold on the cheese platter.
Can't think of any other fruit-y dishes I've served up with dinner (you know, aside from the whole pepper, tomato etc things being fruits)... but now I'm going to have to see what I can come up with some :)

if there are kids, i would serve fruits than vegetables. Because it's easier to feed them fruits, and sometimes you don't have to force them to eat one. Since I am only 17, and i live with my mom and dad, and when i cook, they usually look for veggies, i'd serve them veggies. to make it short, younger crowd: fruit;older crowd: veggies....=)

I have to say yes to this. I consider a tomato to be a veggie but it is actually considered a fruit. I use it alot of times with my meals to replace a side item. I also use some cranberry sauce sometimes too.
