I bought this 47 pound bag of dog food from a local auction recently. I paid $20 for it. This is a good price as most bags that are 12 pounds or so are nearly $20 as well in stores. This is from a feed/pet store etc. It is a quality food as well. It was originally a 50 pound bag but they used it to feed their dogs in the store. It is made with pork meal, chicken meal, various veggies like corn, wheat, rice etc. It also is made with sardines and anchovies and a lot of other products. I gave Buster some already and he scarfed it down like it was real meat. So he seems to like it a lot. I got my moneys worth I feel. it will last forever too. Well a few months anyhow. Have you ever bought animal food from a feed store at all? Do you buy the food at all in bulk or just the regular store bought bags? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Sounds like a good deal but I wouldn't buy it for my dog. After reading about all the crap that goes into dog/cat food, I switched to Pet Promise. It has no by-products, artifical ingredients, preservitives and a whole bunch of other crap that isn't good for our furry friends. After switching, guess what? They hardly pass any gas or belch now compared to how they used to fumigate the house with their old food.

Did you read the whole post? I didn't say it contained any type of by-products. It is almost all natural ingredients. It is a QUALITY food and that's the reason I bought it really. He will do fine with this. he has never had a gas problem with any type of foods he has eaten. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I always read the whole post. 'Meal' is guess what...ground up chicken, beef, or lamb bones pretty much... Meat or poultry meals and byproducts meals are used in many pet foods as a source of protein. Meat and poultry meals may contain rendered proteins. Rendering is the process that uses very high temperatures to cook the leftovers and waste products of the meat industry. http://www.petpromiseinc.com/total_nutrition.htm#protein

i buy the 18 pound bags of cat food at the feed store. my cats go through so much of it,it's more cost effective that way.they seem to like it. what surprises me is the seafood flavor has seaweed proteins, and they don't complain.thought sure i'd get a yuck from it LOL

That's a lot of cat food. How many cats do you own or feed? Some people feed starys. My dad did that at his farm up north. He had 30 to 40 cats visiting him which included his own 10 or so/ HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

We have 24 cats, 23 inside and the outside cat. The "new" roommate has an addition 2, feeds them our food - and that's fine - and there's 2 strays that are mooching off of Mitten's food.

I've been buying my dogs' food from my local feed store for the past 5 1/2 years. I get a 40 lb bag of dog food for $25.00, tax included. I used to pay almost $10.00 more per 40 lb bag for another brand of dog food that was there, but with the dog food only lasting a couple of weeks at a time, I had to find something less expensive. The quality is almost as good and they seem to like it. It is a lamb and rice formula and doesn't contain things like corn or wheat that the breed of dogs I have can be allergic to. I hate to ask, but since the bag of dog food has previously been open how do you know it hasn't been messed with and possibly contaminated? Did the people at the auction check it beforehand? I personally would have been weary of buying it this way.

Hi GRANDPA BOB! We do buy dog food at a local feed store here in our area and it is a lot cheaper, I guess. It cost P25 per kilo and that is around 50 cents per kilo. However, one of our dogs don't want to even touch it..he just smell it then push it. He wants to see the real meat I guess. LOL! Just my thoughts. Take care and have a nice day! :)

Oh, sorry! $1.00 is equivalent to 41 pesos which makes the cost of the dog food I bought as less than $ 0.50 cents. :)

I usually pick up my dog food at Kroger or Walmart whichever has Kibbles (generic or name brand) cheaper. Surprising sometimes Kroger is cheaper and on the name brand than Walmart is on their generic. I have never bought it at a feed store. Never thought about it. Would it be cheaper there?

I have never heard of buying bulk food from an auction. It is a great idea, but I dont know if that option is available here. I buy the chum brand, which they quite like, for tinned food. For dry food I buy the Coles brand. The mini fox terrier loves that especially as she lost 13 teeth last year.

Buster loves this stuff like it is a treat or something. Maybe just all the meat that is in it in the process of making it. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Years ago, it seems before all this nutritous food came out, I got these big bags of, I think it was "Dad's Dog Food" from a feed store in Pennsylvania. I had three dogs then and they would go through it. Now I have Big Bad Bob, all eight pounds of him so get five pound bags. You got a good deal, and the best part is that he likes it!

Some of the stuff at feed stores you have to watch closely as they actually add horse meat etc. I've seen this in rural feed stores all too often. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

No, I haven't bought dog food from the feed store. I did buy a bag of dog food that was at least 25 lbs a few years ago and I still have it since my dog is a chihuahua and doesn't eat that much food, especially when my daughter has given her table scraps.

I am sorry to tell you that I don't like the dog and any other pets.It wates your time, moeny and energy too much. They need to wash every day and I dislike to clean their feces. Maybe you think i am lazzy. To be strange that I like the picture of the dogs.

I buy 52lb bag of Purina Dog Chow for $16 at Walmart, I have a German Sherpherd and a Maltipoo (maltese/poodle) and it lasts a whole month and half. I worry about bone meal and other "meal" stuff out there, but for right now its the only thing my picky German shepherd will eat. I still hunt around for other foods that he might like, but he's healthy, in good shape and a happy working dog. He is my hearing dog, since I am deaf.

I have never bought dog food from a feed store. I usually buy my dogs food at Walmart in either 20 or 40 pound bags depending no how much I feel like lugging out of the trunk when I get home. There are 3 beagles and one mutt running around this house, so they go through a lot of food. Maybe 20 pounds every week to week and a half.

We feed our dog Willow on bulk dried food which has meat and grain derivatives. I have to say she thrivs on it. She seems attracted to vegetables of all sorts and gets our table scarps as part of her diet as long as there's some gravy with it. Seems odd for a confirmed carnivore but she loves it. Another thing she seems to like a lot is plain boiled rice....
