An interesting report came out today from the USGS [neo-natura.blogspot.com] about a large oil deposit find in north dakota and montana. Apparently there is an estimated 3 to 4 billion barrels of undiscovered, technically recoverable oil in an area known as the Bakken Formation. This would make the large "contiunous" oil deposit ever to be found in the U.S. I don't think america's oil obsession is going to end in the near future, and this looks like a feasible way to make ourselves more energy independent. Hopefully the fed won't just tag it as a 'strategic oil reserve' and block access to it.

Well, montana itself has gone from 46,000 barrels per day to 99,000 billion barrels per day over the last 5 years or so. A big achievement of a dinky (economically) state totalling a 115% expansion on oil recovery. To give you an overall picture, though, the u.s. consumes around 20 million barrels each day throughout the nation.
