Hospitals and doctors offices seem to have magazines that are around forever.
Most animal shelters use newspapers on the floors of the animal containment areas. That might be one place to take the newspapers.

I didn't think about animal shelters needing old newspapers. That's a really good suggestion. Another thing I thought about is shredding the color glossy pages and using as filler in baskets or gift bags. It is certainly better than having to buy it.

That is a great idea, shredding the color magazines to use for packing gifts and shipping products.
It sure beats having it end up in a landfill right away..at least they get a second life.

Check with the companies that pick up garbage in your area. Ours offers a recycle bin for $4.00 a month and they pick it up weekly. Ours always seems to be full by Monday or Tuesday. In the town I lived in before, the recycle bins were free, you just had to call and ask for one. If that doesn't work, look in the yellow pages for a local recycling center and see if you have to have a certain quantity before they will take them.

Out where I live at we save our magazines and give them to the VA hospital. They are VERY appreciative of getting them and let the patients and waiting rooms use them. Then for our newspapers, we bundle them up and take them to our local grade school. They have a recycler bin (giant sized) and all of the community takes their used newspapers and throws them in up there. When it's full, this place comes and takes the dumpster away to recycle the paper in it. The nice thing is is that the school gets paid by the recycling place for the old papers. It's a win-win situation, we get rid of something that once read is trash, and the school profits by collecting the money from the recycler. I think it would be great if every school or community could offer this service.

i dont actually recycle my magazines and newspapers. i sold them to junk shops. sometimes there are people who pass by our house and buy these stuffs. however, i still store some beauty magazines because i still use them for cut outs. they make a good design for your artworks or projects. their beauty tips are also nice so i read them from time to time.

I take mine to the recycling depot in town and drop them off.
I have donated magazines and newspapers to things like story hour and kids craft groups for covering tables to protect from paint and glue or to cut pictures out and make collages (when i was little my sisters and i would cut people out of the sears catalogues mom gave us..and furniture and decorate paper houses and play. the rooms were made of wall paper samples glued togheter to make a house shape flat on the floor)

My brother can make a small basket using old newspapers. I don't know how he do it but I would help him roll the newspapers he cut. After making his small basket, he'd put varnish to make it hard and glossy.
My sister experimented doing recycled paper. It's a lot of work though that's why she got tired doing it. lolz!
As for me, before selling it to the 'recycling center', I'd look up and cut some good articles that are interesting.
