Ok this really isn't much of a day to day issue but there wasn't a catagory for this so now it is an issue! I just answered a post about the huge need for a cellphone now compared to 15yrs ago and it reminded me about the beeper I couldn't live without when I was 16(12yrs ago by the way) and now I see 10yr olds with cell phones and it makes me laugh. I cannot see a little kids with a cell phone. Oh well my question was where did the beeper/pager go? also how many of you had 1 way back in the day? Does anyone still have one? What did yours look like back in the day!

I had a couple of different pagers over the years. My last one was a kind of cranberry opaque one. I used it mostly because I was on call as a program manager in a group home. After a while I figured a cell phone was better since the pager would only tell me someone needed something...then I still needed to find a phone to return a call... Out went the pager in in came the cell phone. I haven't even seen a pager in years to be honest...lol Blessed Be, Mari

i had a pager but it was the companies that I worked for, I was on call and it let me know when I was needed. As for cell phones I think the idea of all these kids carrying phones is so that they can call in case of an emergency. But I agree a 10 year old with a phone, my opinion the 10 year old should be taken where he goes and brought back, but I see more and more small children on the street by themselves. I have a granddaughter and she should get it attached to her ear. Kids have too much anymore I think, and really hard when they get out on their own and dont' have the money to continue the service.i still can't figure out how we 10-15 years ago could go to wal-mart and come back out to the car with our having a cell to call someone on the way in and on the way out. Don't you wonder how with all the eltrontics they got today how we ever survived.

i must be different I dont' feel the need to call someone to let them know I am going into wal mart then call someone on the way out.But doesn't bother me if others do just think it funny that all of a sudden you can't get out of your car and make it to wal mart without calling someone. I use mine in the car to call for help or if i'm in a store and don't remember if we have milk I might call home and ask so I don't have to go out again. Or if I see something really marked down big time and I think my daughter would like it. I call information on it because it free. I just was never one that had to talk to someone while driving and I think it is a damger to others to talk while driving but i see some has handfree. My grand daughter's is stuck to her hand she never lays it down. Maybe we was with our friends back then or maybe we didn't have that many friends to call us all day. It her boyfriend always wanting to know where she at, don't want ot see her get caught up in that and always have to report every time she moves from one spot to the other.

I would go crazy without my phone when I am out! I have to call my hubbie for anything I buy for him because he is fussy and likes what he likes and I am never sure! I don't know what I would ever do back then with a phone! my friends were always with me, my parents would probably call like crazy asking where I am! it would have been nice on those long walks home at night by myself!

Although I never had a beeper or pager even 12 years back, I found one or two persons around one year back who had been carrying pager with them. In last 12 months, I do not recall seeing anyone with such devices. Most of the things are destroyed by now, I believe.

How funny, you do not seem to see many of these nowadays! My hubby had one somewhere, I do not know why as he did not need it in relation to work or anything, but it was just the in thing at the time! My eldest has a mobile, he is 16, my 7 year old has asked for one but I said that I did not think he really needed one as he never goes anywhere without me or dad with him so there is not much point yet. He said that it was ok, but could he have one when he was 10!

16 may-be but 10? what do you need a phone for when you are 10? when I was ten I hardly left the house and when I did it was to ride my bike or play with the kids around my way! No way would I need a cell phone for that! Kids today are so much different!

I remeber at school everyone was crazing pagers!! I was one of those that wasnt allowed one, well never asked for one as it didnt appeal to me (I dont think I understood them then!) I wasnt interested in technology then!! I hate seeing young kids with mobile phones, I dont understand why they need a mobile that young and it is so easy for someone to pinch it of them!! I dont see much of pagers now except for doctors/nurses in hospitals. They must still be some pagers out there in the world!!

I was never allowed to have one,. only because we just could not afford it but I found a way to get one and then changed the cases so much and then changed the style. I do and I don't think kids should have one, I think an emergancy is good but just to chat with friends all the time is really a waste! I do know Doctors still use them but other than that I have no idea!

I had one because when pagers came out they were small, almost the size of future cell phones. My pager worked great and it was about the size of a pedometer, it was convienent because cell phones at the time I had my pager were huge. I had to get rid of it because I worked for MCI, which stands for "Many Changes Instantly", they gave me a cell phone and it was $10.00 a month. I had that thing for 5 years before I updated it. People would laugh at the size of it and I would tell them it was only $10 and then they stopped laughing. But pagers were cool, now if you have one people think you just stepped out of a time capsule, of course if you have a mullet and you're wearing parachute pants I can't help you.

yes... i did have a beeper when i was in highschool. it was convenient back then to have one so i could get messages from my friends and my mom when she has to ask me to get something on my way home... mine was transparent and just about a size of a matchbox.. only a bit thicker than that. looking back, i think CPs are better than beepers. for beepers, you need to have a phone to return messages you got, its a one way messaging. but with phones, you can already return the message sent to you.

I agree, but they were so much fun to spell out different sentences to your friends with the #'s on your phone. Thanks for your thoughts 72889
