I dont know of any good ones at all. Especially any free ones. Plus on my old computer it was infected because of a antivirus thing I downloaded. It had a pop up come up every 5 minutes asking me to pay for their service. That drove me crazy. I thought antivirus things were supposed to take away viruses not make them. Well back to the point could anybody direct me to any good downloads please that are free and work well.

I use Avast! and used to use Antivir...
They are all free to use and in case you don't know, free versions no matter which antivirus only offer decent protection.
If you want a full and total protection, you should go for paid antivirus programs...Sure, you pay for them, but their additional features do help a lot..

I see the previous users recommended AVG. I highly recommend them. I use it, and their new version AVG 8.0 includes their bundle with their Anti-spyware scanner. I love the software because it works and of course it works. It may bug you every now and then about it's paid product but it's spyware and virus free, and earned 5 out of 5 stars by CNET's Download.com. It's a good program, but I would like to say Avast is too.

Same here, AVG anti virus is the best free anti virus so far. Like you, I didn't found any free anti virus until I visit download.com, as of now as I speak if i'm not mistaken AVG Free Edition is the TOP 1 (RAnk 1) in their list of the most downloaded and most popular applications.

best free antivirus for me is avast home edition. it can clean almost all virus and you can update it if you register. but it will be much better if you install spybot antispyware to go hand in hand with avast antispyware.
