Getting To Know Mylot Friends Better...

One Of My Cakes - A 50th Birthday Cake I made.

I received a different type of "getting to know friends", e-mail today. Instead of it being filled in, it came from a friend I met a long time ago, with questions, and a space for me to fill in the answers. It was headed, "How Well Do You Know Me", and had questions like, where did we first meet, what colour are my eyes, and what is my middle name? Then I came to a question asking, Do I have any talents? I do know this person has some talents but I got to thinking that I don't know the answer to that question regarding a lot of my friends here, in Mylot. So, I thought maybe if I asked, I might be able to learn a little bit more about you guys. What are your talents... do you write, cook speciality things, dabble in crafts, what? As a lot of you will know, I bake, ice and decorate celebration cakes, and write poems. More recently, I've taken up Greeting Card making and wood burning (pyrography). I love to sit quietly and amuse myself with some of those things. Don't be shy now... what are your talents? This is your chance to boast about what you're good at, whilst I learn a little more about you.

Wow... what do you create with a welder, my friend? That's really interesting! Any instrument is a very soothing and satisfying tool. Music is one of the essences of life, I feel, and if you have the talent to create it, will bring you much pleasure. xxx

My betting is, if you picked up a guitar again, it would soon all come flooding back to you. Awww, velvet pictures sound nice and drawing is a real talent. It doesn't matter whether you do them any more my friend. You've had a lot on your plate lately, but the talent is still there, my dear friend. Brightest Blessings. xx

I write or at least I used to write. I craft, I taught myself needle point, picked up cross stitch, am now beading and have crocheted, tried knitting and want to learn to quilt.

Oh wow, you are talented in many areas my friend. I would love to have the patience to make quilts. I used to make soft toys at one time, but got weary of it. Quilts can be beautiful though. Do you have any pictures of results of your talents? Brightest Blessings and thank you for your contribution, my friend.

I know three talents that you can boast without even thinking about them, my dear friend. How about being a caring mother, speaking a second language, and singing? They are talents... you don't have to be able to produce something material to have a talent. Brightest Blessings and thank you for your contribution. xxx

Well Darkwing as you know I'm a Pagan :-), I like to be artistic photography and graphic design mainly - but I'm useless as drawing - You can see some of my photo's here http://bizziebod.blogspot.com/ . I like to be on my own quite a lot, I love music. I'm useless at cooking and would burn water! For a living I'm a secretary for the NHS some of the week and work for myself the rest of the week doing anything from secretarial work to graphic design and designing mugs of all things! I love animals and have two cats, two degus, and tropical fish and I'm also looking after my daughters two hamsters and a gerbil as she can't have animals where she lives! I love fast cars and motor racing! My claim to fame is that I'm distantly related to Dave Hill the drummer from the band Slade! Oh and I have a powerboat licence! Brightest Blessings!

Wow... there are some gorgeous photos there, my friend. Thank you for sharing them. Do you take people out on your power boat, or do you hire one just for your own use? I don't know whether a license enables to to carry passengers, or not? Brightest Blessings, and thank you for such a detailed and interesting contribution, my dear friend. xxx

Wow... that's unbelievable that you don't need a license and a youngster could take a boat out. That's as dangerous as a kid driving a car, on the highways, for other sea users. It must be quite nice to have the freedom to roam the sea at speed, on your own. I think I'd quite like that, but I can't imagine me being in charge of such a powerful mode of freedom! Thank you for explaining all that to me, my friend, and your best is good enough with the photography. I love the close-ups of pebbles and stuff, on the Durassic Coast, and the sunsets. xxx
@Bizziebod (3497)
5 May 08
If I wanted to take fare paying passengers out then I would need a commercial test, which I doubt I would do. The licence just allows me to drive boats up to around 70ft long. There is no requirements for licences in this country, which means a five year old could take the helm of a boat that does in excess of 70mph on the water! I took the test as I worked for a powerboat company at the time. I don't own a boat, but if I moved somewhere hot I probably would as the seasons are longer than they are here and it's a blummin expensive hobby! Thanks for the compliments about the photos I try my best and always learning! Brightest Blessings to you!

Wow you are very talented in a lot of things Darkwing - the wood burning one sounds interesting and fun. Don't forget to share with us a photo or two :) I don't have any artsy crafty talent at all LOL The only talent I have is in sports and that is it really.
@Darkwing (21583)
12 Apr 08
Thank you my friend, and yes, wood burning is both fun and soothing. So, what sports are you good at. It's a talent out on its own to be able to join in sports, and I'd like to hear more about it. Brightest Blessings and thank you for your contribution, my dear friend.

Wow... national level is good, my friend. I played in the netball team at school, and played stoolball from age eleven until forty-five, but other than bowling in stoolball, and playing in a couple of county teams, I didn't really excel at either. Well done! You see, there's talent in sport too! Brightest Blessings, and thank you for coming back to tell us of your achievements.

Netball and Basketball where the main sports I played from when I was 7 right through to the age of 32. Ruptured my archilles tendon so haven't played since. Played national level too for both sports. I also played Volleyball and enjoyed the odd game of tennis and golf.

I am able to do many things, but non of them are what I would describe as a talent. Despite my apparent devil may care persona, I suffer quite poor self esteem following a mental health illness last year. I can write a bit. I am very good at filling out forms (?!) and I love fiercely and passionately. I have had major success in my life; but I'm trying to put that all behind me now. It is no longer important. My goals have changed. I occasionally dredge up something funny from then. But generally, it's all best forgotten.

From what I've seen of you here, on Mylot, you have a good writing ability, my friend. You have humour as well, which is indeed a talent, (good at filling out forms?) and the ability to love, fiercely and passionately or otherwise, is an art which not everybody is capable of. Ok... so put the major successes behind you, if that's the direction in which you feel you need to go, but in pursuing new goals, you will be uncovering talents which have lain dormant. The main thing is, you're adopting a positive attitude, and that's all important in building on our talents. I'm sure you will regain your self esteem, and put behind you the negative parts of your life... you have the power, my friend, and you can succeed. Brightest Blessings, and thank you for sharing with us. It's not easy to talk about, or indeed surpass the negative obstacles in our lives, but with applying your PMA, and stepping into a new era, you're bound to go far. Take care, my friend.

I like recycling old materials into patchwork things, I have a poncho I made out of old jeans and I'm making a big quilt that I'm using some old fabric in as well as new fabric I've bought specifically for it on eBay. I'm also training as a singer and learning to play guitar, though I need to concentrate more on learning the guitar as most of my family can play and I can hardly play anything.

Oh wow! I'd love to do all three of those things, although I don't know whether I'd be able to stand in front of a lot of people and sing... maybe more in a group of friends, who would join in with me. That's a great idea for patchworking as well, my friend. It sounds quite adventurous and soothing at the same time. You must get a great deal of satisfaction from it. May I ask if you have any pictures to share with us? I would love to see them if you do. Brightest Blessings and thank you for your contribution. x

Im going to look forward to reading peoples responses to this as well. i think its great to learn about others, and what they like doing. i dont get much time to do things these days, unfortunately. but i do love cooking, and trying different things in the kitchen. i used to do lots of craft stuff as well. i did pottery, cards, painting and decorating boxes. used to make different items hat were padded and covered in material like photo albums, writing sets and stuff like that. i always loved sewing, and used to make clothes for my older kids when they were little. and i love music as well, and used to play the organ/keyboard. every now and again i muck around on it if i get a bit of time.

Hi Darkwing! This is so nice so we can all get to know a little of each other somehow. I love to cook, I dabble on crafts but lately I haven't been so active on it, I do poetry once in awhile when the mood struck. I love the song "Way back to love" and I do love Bon Jovi's song "It's my life". I love listening to Jack Johnson's songs nowadays too. One thing that really struck me however about you is that you are into mystical things because I really into that too. The difference is that I don't have the eye or the gift. haha... If I can ask a favor from you that if you could send me positive energies to fill my life, I would really appreciate it very much. Because right now, i have a lot of problems that sometimes I can't breath. It is alright if you can't because I really don't know how much energy that will be drained from you if ever. Thanks in advance dear friend. Take care and have a nice day! :)
@Darkwing (21583)

I seem to remember you have an online shop for your crafts... am I right? Certainly, I'll send you positive energies my friend, but you say you don't have the eye or the gift... I beg to differ because if you believe it's there, you only have to seek for it, and you'll find it. However, in the meantime, I will send positive energies your way, and I'm going to PM you with a suggestion. Brightest Blessings and thank you for your contribution, my dear friend. xx

My dear Faith, you are a wonderful friend, and are welcome to any little thing I can do for you. In fact, I would have been more than disappointed if you hadn't asked this of me. As for your website... I saw some wonderful crafts on there, and would like to purchase, but I do need a Paypal facility, so good luck with that one. Thank you again for your trust, and faith in me... I value that greatly, and I'm always here, should you need to talk further. Brightest Blessings dear friend, that the eternal light guide you on your life path. xx

Good Morning Darkwing...it's my day off finally, so I have a short while to answer some discussions here before I'm off to my daughter's to visit. What a nice discussion you've started for everyone, and so thoughtful of you to do. This really started me thinking of all the things I USE to do but haven't in the last couple of years. I really miss it too. I guess you could say I'm a Jack of All Trades, but Master of None, as the saying goes. Some of the fun stuff I did was crafting (sold numerous items) which were miniature scenes, mostly always containing animals of some sorts and all nature related. It's hard to explain and I wish I had some pictures. There were these little tiny fuzzy bears that looked like Boyd's Bears if you're familiar with them, that I use to use quite a bit. So adorable to do fun fairy-tale scenes with. I also created many things from items bought at resale shops such as miniature cups and saucers, shelving, pictures, frames, vases, baskets, etc...if I could re-design them I did, adding various woodland material, flowers, all kinds of stuff, haha. I loved taking pictures, sold some with the frames I refurbished, and some Artwork. I never did the ususal crafty stuff such as sewing, knitting, etc., mine were one of a kind items and truly unique, and such fun to create. Now that I'm talking about it, I really miss it all. I also dabbled in writing children's stories, and poetry, and sold on Ebay as an extra hobby. As ususal Darkwing, you've got me thinking again, haha, on all the things I'm missing in my life right now.

Boyd's Bear Figurine - A Boyd's Bear Figurine... so cute!
Well, I can't say I'm sorry about setting you thinking of all the things you're missing because you may just need to get around to doing them again, and this is the first step! I love the sound of the fairy-tale and nature scenes. I wish you had a picture or two as well. I'd really love to see them... I'm thinking Native design, here. I don't know whether I'm right. I wasn't familiar with Boyd's Bears, so I searched some out and uploaded a picture of a figurine. They're really cute, aren't they? You sound as though you're very gifted... story telling of a different nature. A true talent, indeed, my friend. Brightest Blessings... have a great day at your daughter's, and thank you for your fascinating contribution, my dear friend. Take care! xxx

Hi, Thanks for starting such a wonderful discussion. It really gives to think about what talents I have, and what I have used better. I know I cook really very well and I can engage any number of kids. I train kids and adults to develop their personality. I am a trainer by profession. But I also am good in crafts. I do fabric painting and dress designing. I really love to decorate my house and I have done interior decoration for some of my friends. Though not professionally but just for friendship. I learnt fashion designing and I design my dresses and my daughter's dresses. I can sing, though not a professional singer, I can really make people listen to me. Thanks again for giving me a chance to boast about myself. It really gives me a pride to talk about so many good things I have.

Whoa! An icebreaker, I believe. Yes, we need to got beyond these nicknames and be open more. That was a real good discussion. Thanks for this. Hohumm.. Let me start mine. Talents? Ohh, I am not particularly good in arts and exploring my creative minds. I am into sales and coaching. I handle a team of representatives for a certain company and I coach them to be able to attain their dream financial earnings that company provides. I love conversations and heart to heart talks. I am proud that I can be a listener and I think that is a talent I can be proud of. I am not good in giving advices but I can be there to listen and be a good company for a while not to join a friend for some pain but to cheer up and make a smile. If it wasn't so enough for the topic, I can add more. hehe. Smiles!
@Darkwing (21583)
13 Apr 08
Yes, I guess a sort of icebreaker. I've been here fifteen months now, and have made a lot of really nice friends on here, so I thought it was about time to give them chance to tell me a little more about themselves, as I'm very interested in what they do outside Mylot. Yours is indeed a worthwhile talent... they don't need to be materialistic; it takes a special kind of talent to lead a team of people to success, and indeed to be able to listen and cheer people's days. I have learnt, in my short time of knowing you, my friend, that you have drive, a positive mental attitude that will take you far in this life, and I wish you every success with that. If you wish to add more, feel free... this is a discussion, rather than a Q and A site, and I welcome anything you wish to offer up, with interest. Brightest Blessings, and thank you for your contribution, my dear friend. xx

I am of medium build-but would like to lose a few pounds-because of my health I am unemployed but do clean a friends house, I have two large dogs and love lizards especially snakes of which i have had 4 and 30 other lizards at one time-am not an avid reader-love history,biography and animal planet on sky-love walking-those are a few things will leave you with them for now-bright blessings littleowl

Yes, you have many talents my friend... I can tell that from talking to you. If you love reading history books, have you read any of the Bernard Cornwell trilogies? He combines history with legend, and mixes in a pinch of humour here and there. I love his writing... seem to get wrapped in all his books. I'm not too keen on snakes for some reason, but lizards are ok. They're quite significant though. Brightest Blessings, and thank you for your contribution my dear friend. xxx

I could loan some to you my friend, but I gave the first Warlord one away... The Winter King. If you could buy that one from somewhere... E-Bay and Amazon have it at reasonable prices... then I could lend you the other two for a while. I'd like them back though because I go back to them every so often. I have to get the Stonehenge one, next. I'm intrigued as to how his thoughts work on that one. xxx

You and my mom would get along well. she does bizzare cakes on the side similar to ace of cakes. I salute both of you on that because just watching my mom do cakes changed my whole outlook on what I thought it takes alot of blood sweat and dedication to make them lol. so the things im good at would have to be art and playing the guitar. I have drawing after drawing painting after painting model car after model car sitting around my apt everywhere lol art is my life. im decent at playing the guitar as well because Im one of those rare mimic guitarist, I dont know how to read tabs but I can hear a song and mimic it with ease lol. btw this discussion is awesome not too many people create uniqe threads like this.

Thank you, my friend. Yes, I think your Mum and I would probably get along pretty well. As you can play music by ear (mimic), you might be able to develop that talent into composing music. It's worth a try, my friend. You're a true artist, that's for sure... gear all over the apartment! What type of drawings do you do... portraits, scenery, still life? When you paint, do you paint over the drawings you've done, or is it a separate thing altogether? Composer and Cartoonist in the budding, it sounds to me!!! Brightest Blessings, and thank you for your contribution. I'm finding it very interesting to learn about all the different talents my Mylot friends have.
