Depending on where you are from some say soda, some say pop. It's the tomato /potato question. Have you changed what you call your couch/sofa when you change geographic location?

I don't know. I think that I generally call it either or both depending on my mood. The shorter sofa is a 'love seat' but other than that, I'm a bit ambivalent.

I have always called it a couch. I have heard it called a couch by most people my whole life. Except my great aunt, she always calls it a davenport. I remember the first time I heard her call it a davenport I was not sure what she was talking about.

No, I have always heard it called a couch - and I have lived in the south, the deep south, the West and the North east. NOw, you missed Tonic which is what Pop is called in Boston. Also, what about cellar and basement, same difference.

I always call it a couch or love seat myself. I know alot of people like to call it a sofa though. I think we all tend to call it whatever our famnily called it when we were growing up.

I've always called it the couch, but my husband calls it a divan. I think he does it just so we have something else to disagree on. :)

As far as I know couch and sofa mean the same thing to most people in the USA. There are different kings of related furniture that have more specific meanings. Settee the forerunner of today's sofa, a long seat with side arms and back, sometimes upholstered. www.wynwoodfurniture.com/about/glossary/ Sectional A sofa in several segments. It may be curved or straight and have one, two or no arms. www.cobblersbenchinc.com/glossary.htm

I have always called it a Couch. I think of sofa as something an old person would call it. One day I did slip and say to my kids sit on the sofa and they gave me a wierd look and asked what a sofa was. LOL! I was like its the couch. ~May The Kisses Of An Angel Cover And Protect You Always~ Copper

We always called it a couch, I'm from the south, still do call it that. You might be from Texas if you have ever had this conversation...... You want a coke? Yeah, What kind? A Dr Pepper. No matter what kind of soda it is, it's a coke in Texas lol

I am a weirdo...I have always called it soda even though I am not *supposed* to. (Although, when it is time to take the cans in, I call them popcans...go figure.) Anwyay, I generally have a couch sometimes I will call it a sofa but usually what is in my living room is a couch...now we are looking to buy and I say I want a sofa, but when it comes time for it to be in my home, it becomes a couch. I really don't know why. Told ya...straight up weirdo here.

I call it a sofa, but I think I might have changed when I married. My mind is a little fuzzy here, but I think my parents call it a couch. Since hubby is Japanese, and he calls it sofa, it makes for less confusion.

I use sofa, and tend to think of a couch as somehow squishier or with more plush material than a sofa? I don't really know.
