My brother and his wife from Michigan drove all the way to see us from Michigan. I think it's a 9 or 10 hour drive. Somewhere along those lines. They arrived at a local motel Friday evening late then called Saturday morning. Their visit was from Saturday morning till Late Saturday evening. They have not started their drive back to Detroit. We had a blast visiting with them and all of us including dad chit chatting and reminiscing of the old days. Dad was glad to see him as well. they usually visit a couple times during the year staying for a week or so. But he had not seen dad for a year and has been working a lot of overtime and wanted to see dad so he decided to visit for one day. Have you ever driven a LONG distance in one weekend just to visit a family member for one day, only to return home so quickly? This is my older brother and his wife taken Saturday evening.

That was nice that your brother was able to make it out to see e1, even if it was just for a day. All my family lives within a 2hr. drive from us so no road trips for us to visit a family member.

Hopefully the next time your brother and his wife comes out, they will be able to stay longer than a day.

Yes...sometimes you just have to do it for friends or family. I imagine with you dad getting on and the health issues he's had that you brother probably was feeling a little nervous and took the opportunity! Good for him and glad you had a wonderful time!

We would do it for a family member, as hearing how much your father enjoyed his visit would convince me that the distance isn't big. I miss seeing my father and will have to go visit him soon and its a 1000 mile trip. Time goes by way to quickly.

We did nothing but sit and talk all day long actually. I tried to get my brother and SIL to go out to eat but nope we sta and chatted all day. Was a blast too. I hope when you go see him it isn't for just one day. Unless you fly there.

I will fly Southwest, as gas is to high to drive. Its cheaper to fly; specially, since Southwest regularly e-mails me good deal alerts.

that is an awful long drive for such a short visit. my relatives visited my mother in the very south of texas from new york which is about 2000 miles and 31 hours without any stops.
they only stayed 2 nights, I know my mother was sad to see them leave so soon... as many of the activities she would have liked to entertain them with were not able to be fulfilled.

I am glad that you got to spend some time with your brother and his wife. That is a bit of a long drive. I have driven many times on a Friday afternoon or evening to visit for the next day or to spend the night, just to have to drive back that Sunday. I used to do it all of the time, driving from North Carolina to Tampa Florida. You burn out after awhile that's for sure!

I can't drive like that anymore as a I have a bad back and need to rest after a couple hours of sitting stationary like that. We had a great time together even though it was limited. My sister called Sunday missing my brother. But we never let her know he was coming either so no big deal there. Years ago I could Drive from Miami to Detroit non-stop except meals and restroom breaks. Now I can drive 100 miles then need a good break.

Wow, that is a long way to drive for just one day..I am glad you got to visit with your brother and his wife. My cousin comes down from Michigan once a year, but he didn't make it last year, I hope he visits this year..Then I have another cousin that is from Mississippi that comes up, but last year when she came up, her Mom was so sick, I didn't find out about it until she was headed back home..

It seems that phone chats with dad weren't enough. My brother missed dad and wanted to see him was all. Glad he decided to visit too. I was happy to see them both as well. It does seem that most times someone visits there is always someone sick. Here's myself, my brother and dad.

This is a long drive just for a weekend.
I remember as a teenager, my father , myself & my brother would drive all the way to Adelaide & return, in one day (8 hours) just to see a football match.

wow that is a long drive.. I have driven 19 hours (well my friend drove, i dont drive) one xmas from ontario to NS, for a week.. we wouldnt have made it there and back in a weekend for sure even if we didnt visit at all. lol. I will never drive that long again in my life. being stuck in a car that long sucks, i can just imagine the poor person driving!! i was scared too cause it was winter and snowing most of the time!! like quebec has the WORST snowstorms ever.. we couldnt see the road and the snow was thick in the sky we couldnt really see too far in front of us either and on top of that the guy was really tired. . it was scary!

Wow, Grandpa Bob, I'm surprised they only stayed such a short time. I love visiting with family, and unfortunately I can't say I have experienced their situation...they either live very close (well like 45 mintues away) or very far (like GA or CA). So if I'm going to visit them and they live far away I want to stay about three days or more.
Your brother and his wife must really miss the family. You should feel loved Grandpa Bob because they came to visit you, your dad, and everyone else. Isn't that wonderful?

Hi GRANDPA BOB! It is always nice to see families or relatives who live very far from us once in awhile. I am sure your dad is very pleased and all of you had fun together! I am very excited when my husband and I will go visit his relatives in their province. But it has been 5 years since we last visited them because it has been a practice since then that they are the ones who come visit us twice a year. Usually it takes us 5 hours of driving and one hour on a ferry boat to arrive at their province. I really like visiting his relatives because their hometown is very beautiful. They have a beach front house and I just love walking at the shore at the break of dawn. But we usually stay with them for a week. Just my thoughts dear friend! Take care and have a nice day!

We were all glad. Funny thing is that dads memory is very bad.
He had forgotten he was here visiting an hour after they left.
