Do you watch a movie on its first day in the theaters?

Jackie Chan and Jet li - in the Forbidden Kingdom movie

i usually watch a movie not on its first day but on a later day to avoid crowds, especially if the movie is a very popular one that everybody is excited to see. and first days are usually Wednesdays or Thursdays and i have limited time during those days and either i reserve a ticket for the opening day, chances are, i won't be able to find a good seat. worst, i might not even find a seat. so i prefer to watch on the succeeding days when the number of people has already decreased. but this time around, i feel the urge of watching this particular movie on its very first day in the theaters! i wanna watch Forbidden Kingdom on its first day! i wanna watch it on its first day so badly that i feel like crying. its going to premiere on April 18, worldwide and that would land on a Friday here in our country and i can't watch a movie on a Friday night! Friday is a going home day. i go home to our province (weekend break) which is a 2 to 3-hour travel from work. and i'm always tired upon reaching home. too tired that i can't go to a theater and watch a movie. not that i would want to go to our local theater and watch a movie. our local theater is way below the standards. you can't feel that its airconditioned and the quality of the movie is bad. which means i have to wait for Monday until i go to the city (which is where work at). its only April 14 today and i feel like crying over the long wait. T.T this is all Jet Li's fault.

No, I do not go and watch a new release at the cinema, I do not really go to the cinema at all. We just get them on dvd as soon as we can! I think once our kids are a bit older and will sit still long enough then we would probably go a bit more, but the last time we took them they got bored after about half an hour and would not sit still.

oh its a nice and exciting movie alright. jet and jackie's fight scene was awesome! but what messed up the movie was really the American. as the silent monk said "He's not even Chinese!". he was really the off thing. if it weren't for Jet and Jackie, everything would be a failure! i'm not satisfied actually. .

I usally wait untill a movie comes to dvd myself. It takes longer but I hate to go to a crowded place to watch a movie for 2 hours . Have the time people are talking and I can't understand or I miss something during the movie.

No that's my nephew. I was watching him one day and took this picture of him with my cell phone. While he was still looking at his toy truck.

well, its not always crowded in the theater. a few days after the first day of a movie, the number of people would have subsided down so there will be peace and quiet inside the theater. ^__^ is that your kid in your avatar? very cute!

He he he he! You better not disappoint me. I told all my friends that you will be the first in line and the first person in the world to see the movie. I'm sorry to say I can't be there with you because I'll be on the end of a business trip. I'll see it when I get home over the weekend or next week. I know I promised to be in line right behind you so I'm sorry. Waaaaaaaa! Please forgive me. ‹(°¿°)›

Hey I understand. I would miss it also to have fun during my birthday. No I haven't yet. I was on a business trip and mostly in a hotel room over the weekend. Waaaaaaa. I will soon I hope. Was it as awesome as it looks. I saw Jet on a talk show over the weekend. He said Jackie would tell jokes all the time and if someone didn't laugh he threatened to fire you. Then he would laugh also. He's so funny. ‹(°¿°)›

the action scenes were awesome! i was not satisfied with the story so i can't really say that the movie itself was awesome. but, Jet and Jackie were as awesome as always! i love their fight scene! the drunken immortal and the silent monk didn't want to be defeated by each other. superb. i just wish Jackie had a much better enemy than the white-haired witch. and i wish the Monkey King and the Jade Warlord had a longer fight scene. Jackie is always like that. its too bad that they didn't show the takes at the end of the movie like they always do in Jackie Chan movies.

You're a big fan eh? It's still the same movie whether you watch it on the first day or after, so just like you I try to avoid the crowd by watching later. Weekdays are best, especially right after the cinemas open around noon.

Oh, Secreta, I am so terrible. Usually I don't even go to the theater--we wait until they are on TV (or the dollar bin at the video rental place) -- yes, it is all Jet Li's fault and I feel your pain. When we leave soon on vacation I will probably feel bad like you for a few days until I get used to being offline and away from myLot. Before the longest I have been away from myLot was 5 days, and now I am going to try to last a couple weeks, lol. During that time you will have enjoyed many movies and I will just have to miss your interesting discussions.

i hardly go to the cinema at all... it is so expensive... if i want to watch a particular movie, i just buy the DVD and watch it from home... it is more relaxing and enjoyable... also, more private... you can do anything that you like while watching the movie...

i am really wondering about this. why is it expensive to go to the movies and cheaper to buy a dvd? here, its cheaper to go to the movies than buy the dvd.

I used to, but am not much into watching movies anymore.. Normally, I'd go for special sneak previews than watch the movie on it's first showing day. Guess I'll just have to wait until a month or year to buy some of their DVD's copies (original, of course), or maybe wait until HBO airs them..

Hello secretbear, You are the greatest fan of Jet Li! I really don't believe that you are going to cry just because you can't make it for the premiere. No, I am just kidding! Don't take it to your heart. For me, it doesn't matter. Whenever there is a new movie, I will go and watch on the first day if I have the time to do so or watch it later, not really a big deal for me. Unfortunately, since I have my son, to go and watch movie at the cinema is something that is very hard for me to do *sad* However, I prefer to stay at home and watch the DVD..aha, it is too late compares to others and the thrills of watching the latest box office is not there anymore...

hi gr8life! i didn't cry after all. because i was having a great time during my pre-birthday celebration! i originally didn't plan to watch it on the first day, April 18, and i didn't plan to go out with friends that night too. i was only planning to go home. but for some reasons i got so indecisive. and then i realized, i won't be having visitors on my birthday proper so might as well go out while my friends are there. so i did. that took my mind off from Jet Li. ^__^;; i watched it last Monday. i do prefer to watch some movies too at home. especially drama and love story themed movies.

when i was in school and later college i went to the movies and plays a lot but during the years i worked it was cut back drastically as i worked a lot of overtime... but now that i am retired i have a lot of time but i do not go to the movies as i prefer to watch dvd and cable tv in my own home..i have surround sound and a large screen tv and i even watch some movies on the commuter..as its free but i have stopped going to the movies and since my wife never like going ..she prefers staying home too...but its cool in michigan and it is april 14 and i had to scrape the ice off of my windshield before i could drive to the mall but i have central heating and air conditioning but our summer is not very long in michigan.. my wife finds it harder to live in the philippines as she misses her american food and she has her own transportation..she finds it harder to live in the province of Negros..bacolod city..but she just bought a two bedroom house there in sumat for her brother and his wife and daughter...but after 45 days she had to return and she had planned on staying until May 28...so we both will probably return in January..2009 but i don't like that long airline trip..and the heat for me in the Philippines even with A/C has been a problem for both of us..

there came a point too in my life when i preferred watching movies at home. but since i can't watch new movies immediately since they aren't put into dvds immediately, i decided to enjoy the pleasures again of watching a movie in the big screen.

I do not go to movies too often due to other obligations but I do enjoy the big screen. I usually do not go on opening night but wait until been out a while or even until it makes it way to the two dollar movie house. I love movie going, when I become an emptynester I hope to be able to enjoy more movies out. Thanks for the reminder that movie-going is great.

Usually I wait a couple of days. If it's something I really want to see a lot, I'll go the first day but I'll get the tickets online. Otherwise it usually ends up being sold out and i end up at the mall. lol

i do not watch a movie in a theater on its first showing , i do not find the urge to do it. i would rather watch a movie on my own sweet time, relaxing. i do not want to watch a movie so excited and then get dissappointed if the movie ain't that good.

It has been so long since I wanted to see a film in the theater the first day. I think the last time it was Star Trek 4.I usually wait until the film airs on HBO or Showtime. Or if I Really need to see it in the theater, I see it the second week and on the weekend, usually on Saturday morning.

we don't have a cable connection but i know the pleasure of having one! when i get to stay at hotels with tv, i enjoy watching tv all night because there is cable and there are a lot of channels available. sometimes i can't even decide which one to watch because there are lots of good shows and i can watch it while lying in bed.

I am sorry for your luck, just know that you will enjoy the movie whenever you get to see it!!! As for me, I rarely ever go to the show period. It costs too much for just a ticket, and don't even think about getting any snacks. Plus, I have to deal with other people talking through the movie, and I can't get comfortable like I can in my own home. That being said, I usually wait until the movie comes out on DVD to see it. There is one movie I just had to see, no less the first day. When Norbitt came out, I and my Mom went to see it at the second matinée showing. We planned it that way because the tickets are cheaper, and there aren't as many people in the theater. We went to eat at McDonald's before the movie, so we wouldn't be tempted by the theater food. We had a really nice time watching a very funny movie. But that was only because it was Eddie Murphy, and we really got excited seeing the previews. On a normality, we don't go to the show.

eddie murphy is a really funny actor. he was funny in dr. doolittle. ^__^ we don't often buy snacks at the theater too. its too expensive. we usually eat before we go to the movies or we buy food from the grocery and bring it inside the theaters. but we don't buy canned and bottled drinks because they are prohibited inside the theaters.

Well, sometimes I do. There are films that I am just so excited to watch that I can't really wait. Once the movie is to be shown I will be one of the first who would surely queue for a ticket. With regards to Forbidden Kingdom, I think I will grab the chance to watch it on the first day of showing. I have seen posters of the movie as well as trailers and I promised myself that I will watch the movie. My boyfriend has been bugging me about that movie too. We are too excited to watch the movie.
