Ok, so, my husband and I watched the movie based on Stephen Kings's book The Mist last night and I was completely shocked and horrified at how it ended. They escape the grocery store and the crazy religous fanatics and make it into the car and actually make it some ways before they RUN OUT OF GAS. And they think, what do we do now, be eaten by the gigantic from another world bugy monster or take the gun that we have and end it ourselves?
So, they decide on the last option but wait, there are five of them and only four bullets (isn't that always the case? LOL). So, Thomas Jane decides that he will shoot the others and he will throw himself to the thingy. So, he shoots them, including his young son because they all feel that this is a much better way to die than be eaten by the big monster thingy.
After the nasty deed is done, Thomas Jane gets out of the car and starts yelling for the thing to come and get him. Just then an army truck drives by. What does this mean for the half insane Thomas Jane (hey, that rhymes!)? Well, apparently it's over and the army has gotten rid of all the big bug like something or others. I would love to say aliens but from my understanding they were more from another demension, more than anything else anyway. Well, I guess in a way that would still make them aliens to our planet but you get my drift....
In any case, this poor man shot everyone, even his young son because he thought he was doing them a service and they were in agreement by the way. Well, everyone but the son really. Not that he wouldn't have agreed if given a choice but he really wasn't given a choice to decide for himself but my guess is he would have agreed as well. Anyway, he shot them just as it was all ending and they could have been survivors of the whole horrifying event.
How horrible is that? How would you feel in this situation? If you knew you killed everyone, including your son because you thought that that would be the more humane way for them to die and then you come to find that they died for nothing, how would you feel? Do you think he will lose his mind over it? From what it looked like, he probably will. It's awful...
Personally, I don't think I would be able to live with it. I mean, he thought he was being noble in choosing to be the one to take the horrifying death by the thingy but in the end he was the one to be saved. What would you do in this situation? It's a horrible situation to be in, in my opinion anyway....What do you think?

I watched this movie the other day with my sister. Neither me or her liked it all. Yes that situation is horrible and if it was real I think he would loose his mind. I didn't like the movie though, the ending sucked. I think they could have made it a lot better. I thought I was going to really like it because it was from Stephen king but I didn't. Oh and that lady going on about god just got on my nerves. I wanted her to just be quiet. In parts that were supposed to be hectic and scary weren't scary at all to me. I just didn't like the movie at all. At the end they could have at least got outside and try and see what was going on. you know?

Yeah, teh ending was so crazy and I really didn't find it scary either but instead it bordered on ridiculous. It wasn't bad though and although I hated the ending, it was definitely one that I didn't see coming. And you're right that religous woman annoyed the hell out of me and sadly, I was happy when they killed her LOL...

OMG SASSY! When I saw this movie in theaters I was PISSED to no extent! I mean, I was really angry at the ending! I was fuming! lol! I think this is the worst possible ending a movie could have. I mean, the man lost his wife, his neighbor, 2 friends, his son and his new love; 4 of them at his hand. He has NOTHING to live for. I can only imagine how someone in this situation would feel. I imagine how I would feel and it makes me sick to my stomach!
When i don't like the end of a movie, it pretty much ruins the enitre movie for me. if I don't like the end, I won't ever watch that movie again. And this is the all time worst ending I have ever seen...I will never see The Mist again!!

I forgot to mention! After I got home from the movie (I was still pissed) my sister was sitting on the couch. I looked at her and the first words out of her mouth were, "how'd you like the ending?" Now, she hadn't seen the movie, she heard people talking about it. And from the moment she heard I was going to see it, she was just waiting to see how I reacted to the ending...oh everyone in my household, and some friends, got an earfull!!! I think I even came on here and made a discussion about it! lol. terrible terrible terrible!

Yeah I defeniatly didn't see it coming! But when it did, it hit me like a ton of bricks! And it was not pleasant! lol. I don't think I would ever be able to shoot anyone like that, and if I had been there I would have defeniatly told him I didn't want him to shoot me. I'm just happy nothing like this will happen, it's all from the strange mind of the brilliant Stephen King! lol

I agree, it was horrible! I couldn't believe it and I felt his pain. I couldn't imagine that happening to me, that would be so awful! However, I must say that it was an ending that I wouldn't have expected and that's the only that was good about it LOL....

I know I'm really late in responding to this discussion but I just watched "The Mist" last night and I'm still feeling disturbed over the ending! I guess I shouldn't be too surprised because, as a fan of Stephen King's writing and of many of the movies based on his stories I know the endings aren't always happy but this one really threw me for a loop. I can't even imagine how he must have felt if it had been true instead of fiction! He DID promise his son he wouldn't let the "things" get him "no matter what" so IF they had been right outside the car, as expected, he'd have definitely done the right thing. If they all had gotten out to check things out first and if the monsters were there they would have all suffered a much worse fate. If Dave had gone outside himself and they were there, he'd have been eaten and therefore unable to save the others from a similar fate. I honestly have no clue what I'd have done.
I've always kind of judged whether a movie is really good by whether or how much it stays with me after it's over. If I watch a movie and it's forgotten moments after it ends, it really didn't have much of an impact, right? On the other hand, when I'm still thinking about it, in a good way or bad way, hours later or even more than a day later, it must have been pretty good. I'm still thinking about "The Mist" the next day.

I just saw the movie and it was awesome. I loved it!!! Most of you don't like it because the ending wasn't what you thought it should be a that what makes a movie interesting or good. Although I was shocked in the end, it was good for just that reason. What do you want, for them all to live happily ever after and then you all would like the movie. That why I hate it when people say "don't see that movie, it sucks." Because I usually end up watching some movies and enjoying them.

Ok, I do agree with you. It is a crappy ending. I don't think he'll be able to live with himself. It is terrible but I also think that it has a good moral to it... in a sense. So many people these days think their life is so terrible that the only way is to kill themselves. But what people don't realize is that there's always a way out. The moral I got from this story is don't give up because things could get better.
