Users petition to keep Windows XP

Fans of the six-year-old operating system set to be pulled off store shelves in June have papered the Internet with blog posts, cartoons and petitions recently. They trumpet its superiority to Windows Vista, Microsoft's latest PC operating system, whose consumer launch last January was greeted with lukewarm reviews
On the petition site's comments section, some users proclaimed they will downgrade from Vista to XP -- an option available in the past to businesses, but now open for the first time to consumers who buy Vista Ultimate or Business editions -- if they need to buy a new computer after XP goes off the market.
Who here has had problems with Vista?Who likes it?

I can get used to Vista, but I can see why people might complain. First, you have people who are just used to the way XP works and don't want to re-learn the ins and outs of Vista. Then, you most likely have some glitches in the new operating system, too. I have seen some of those when I try to run certain programs. I'm not savvy enough to know what's causing them but, for instance, I can't use a VNC client to remote control my Vista machine.
Microsoft seems to be trying to drop the expense of XP support and rush everyone over to Vista. That doesn't seem very user friendly, but this will only change when people start using alternate OSes. If people would rather learn a MacOs or Linux Os instead of using Vista, then market shares might dwindle for Microsoft such that they can no longer the be kind of Os bully that they used to be.

Guess you better try and find that petition then. Doesn't look like they are extending the deadline again.

I really like XP. From my little experience with Vista I definitely feel like XP is better. Some old people are not able to keep pace with all these revisions and new-version bull.

I have two PCs at home, and one is pretty new, less than a year old. But none of these PCs use Windows Vista, and probably will not. I am happy with staying on Windows XP, and I hope Microsoft will not pull the plug on XP for some time yet. I think for many people, it is not just the issue of migrating from one OS to another, assuming Vista is matured and the teething problems with new OSes have been ironed out. Vista is very resource hungry and unless you can upgrade your PC sufficiently or intend to buy a new one soon, moving to Vista may be out of the question. Of course Microsoft as the originator of Windows can decide how long they want to continue supporting their software, but as Windows is used by nearly everyone the world over, including businesses, they have to be mindful of the cost and impact to users and businesses to just make a support decision without considering how their users will be affected, and the feedbacks they get on whether their decisions are taken positively or negatively.

I have 2 XP computers and 1 vista, i much prefere the different features and software on vista, but i really like that XP is simpler. When i first got my new vista, i thought about sending it back ans changing to XP. Now it doesnt really bother me, but at the end of the day, if the do pull XP off the shelves, everyone who needs a new computer, is going to buy a new vista one, they will just have to adapt. The market wont change for microsoft, because everyone will still need them!

I Like the visuals of Vista but, Vista Stinks. Bcoz I have two nvidia graphics card(512MB) And 4GB Ram But i cant find Vista As Fast As xp. So Microsoft Must find a opearting system called XP Reloaded. To develop The world faster.
So Vista Stinks In the top.

I prefer XP as we have had problems with vista, especially downloading programs that are not compatable. It's not user friendly in my book and prefer XP.

Down with Vista!
They should keep the XP engine and give it the Vista look.
Then we will have the best of both worlds...

I love XP but I'm open to use new operating systems as long as they provide solutions to the problems it encountered. What upsets me is that microsoft would terminate XP prematurely just to promote Vista. I mean surely, they know about the feedbacks regarding Xp versus Vista and also know what OS is preferred. We paid for XP so I think its prudent that they give us (the consumer) who still prefer to use XP an extension until a better OS is marketed. and I mean A BETTER OS.

I have not tried Vista. I still have Windows XP. My computer is only a Pentium 4 and it cannot be upgraded much more than Vista Home Premium but I do not like to be categorized. I write science fiction fantasy, that means making up maps, inventing music, strange instruments, etc. so even a Home Premium would do, so I would have to have an ultimate. I am saving for a Mac.

I haven't used a computer with Vista on it yet so I can't really draw a comparison but it does annoy me the way that Microsoft try and make the old software seem obsolete to make everyone go and buy the new software. I know people who are still using windows 98 and millennium edition and their computers still work so it isn't true they just want us to go and spend hundreds of pounds on yet another operating system.

hi ersmommy. I don't know how vista is. i haven't used it yet. But I generally don't like all these changes. It wouldn't be so bad if windows doesn't change so often. I generally don't like when something is good and works fine for me and I have to change it to a new model.
And I have heard some opinions, that windows xp is bettter than windows vista.
have a nice day, jazgottt.

i have not had very much experience with vista, but i will need to very soon. i run an internet service, and when people buy a new computer, i need to be able to walk them through setting up their internet settings over the phone.
i have asked my customers who use vista how well they like it, and i get about 50/50 responses. some absolutely hate it and plan to or already have reverted back to xp. others like it just fine.
