Diet survey confirms: Men eat more meat; women choose fruits, veggies Men slightly more likely to eat "risky" foods -- runny eggs, undercooked hamburgers Women more likely than men to eat only one risky food, raw alfalfa sprouts Who eats what in your house?

I'm uncertain why raw alfalfa sprouts are considered risky... The ideal conditions provided by germinating seeds and beans--namely abundant nutrients in this phase of plant growth, high levels of moisture needed to produce sprouts, and heat generated from the sprouting process--help ensure the survival and growth of bacteria. "In the sprouting environment, bacteria can grow quickly," says Robert Wick, Ph.D., a plant pathologist with the University of Massachusetts and one of the presenters at FDA's September 1998 public hearing on sprouts. Ok, research validates the risk of sprouts. Hrm, guess that's another reason for my wife not to eat them.

I am more of a meat eater than a veggie eater. I mean, I like veggies and all, but I have to have my meat too. I don't eat undercooked meat or runny eggs(well runny yolks, but not runny whites).

Boy, they really got that wrong. We eat a lot of meat in our house. I am a fussy eater so I don't eat many veggies or fruit but I do like my meat. I like my hamburgers rare, my steaks have to be rare. I don't like meat that is well done, neither does my hubby. I read an article that says women should not eat meat that is well done, or even processed meat as it can cause cancer and heart problems. Oh, by the way, I hate alfalfa sprouts!

I love all food! Except sprouts... blech... Everything in moderation (except tea, lol... too much tea). Normally I call 'bull' on these sort of surveys... but knowing the people I know this survey seems to be holding true. The girls have a taste for many types of food while the boys dislike anything that isn't white bread, meat or cheese... 'Risky' foods... *sigh* Silly idea... the risk factor isn't taken into account by most people. They just eat what they like. I like runny yolks, my partner doesn't. He likes medium rare, I like well done. He likes lean meat, I like fat and gristle.

My husband and I both eat the fruits and veggies, no alfalfa sprouts though, yuck! My husband likes a medium-rare steak, and I like mine rare. My husband wants his eggs scrambled, and I LOVE over-easy eggs Julia (similar to Benedict, but with smoked salmon instead of Canadian bacon. Where I'm from, very few people have even heard of Julia, much less eaten it!) However, our chicken and most of our fish is completely cooked, that's just not a risk either of us is willing to take! So I suppose that in my family, I'm the one to eat the "risky" foods, while my husband tends to stay on the safer side. We've been told by a few waiters that we're "backwards", but I don't take offense to that. We know it, and it's funny!

i guess this is true for adults. because with children, they prefer meat than veggies. only me and my mother would prefer veggies and fish over meat. my sisters and brother equally eats both.

wow, for once we (this family) complies to the statistics! that is exactly how it is in this house - only the fellows in my life like alfalfa sprouts just as much as the gals - and may even be more prone to using them. I am curious, however, what is so risky about alfalfa sprouts?

In my house, it's the other way around. I am a vegetarian so I frequently eat vegetables and fruits. My partner doesn't like it. Instead she eats meat and more meat. Although she's now trying to eat vegies, she still clamor for more meat.

Nowadays, statue is more and more imprtant for person.not only women but also man pay more attention to body.they go to gymnasium more often.More and more women prefer to lose weight and deep good slim.In a sence, slim means beautiful. It's easy to choose clothes and looks beautiful.they complain about fat. Therefore they eat little by little, they are used to eat veggies,as fruit, vegetables, bean curd. For men, they don't need slim, they aquaire good statue,be stronge, meant is one nutrition food for them. Fruit, vegetables and bean curd are all nutrition and good for health.they contain many vitamin.but it think women also need meat.meat have many other nutrition which veggies dont contain. It can make skin smooth and willowy.women can eat little but can't absorlute reject it.the same to man fruit, vegetable are also necessary for their body. I seldom eat meat but i am not veggies.I want good statue but also want good health.

I eat more meat than my girlfriend. I won't care whether i eat more red meat than the white ones. I just take them as i like. I agree that some say women are more health conscious compared to men.. but generally it depends also on one's metabolism rate, body size and daily activities. Men tend to eat more meat because their body requires slightly more energy than women. Men even need higher requirement of calories compared to women in a day. Risky foods like runny eggs, undercooked hamburgers are out of my list but if i were to eat egg, i would gobble the whole egg without caring about how much fat or cholesterol the egg contains.. :) My girlfriend would make sure the egg she cooks is well done, any meat is never rare or medium rare.. she'll make sure all the meat she cooks are well done. She eats raw cucumber and tomatoes with wholemeal bread everyday and eat loads of veggie. For me, im not interested in eating alot of vegetable. i have no idea why but i eat just enough. Few leafs will do.. most important is that i have meat on my plate and i'm full and satisfied after each meal. Thats all that matters ! :)

I agree with that survey! My brother's one big meat eater - he can eat meat in every meal! When he's here, the pork we ordered from Saturday will run out by Wednesday, whereas if it's just me, my mom, and my sister here in the house, that meat would last for two weeks! Although my brother also eat vegetables and some kinds of fish, if he has a choice, he would always go for meat. I guess men are really big protein eaters than women.

The food pyramid - The daily recommended foods that are healthy to eat.
I'm a woman but I tend to eat more like a man. Why? I LOVE my steaks (medium rare) , eggs (any way is fine with me!) but my teeth ache from eating many fruits (I guess it's the high sugar content ) and I'm not much of a veggie eater. Fruits and vegetables are nice, but they don't fill me up nearly as well; I'd be eating constantly (I tend to eat 3 to 5 meals a day anyway, but smaller portions, unless I have eggs--they trick the mind!). Since it's only me here, I can only offer what I'm eating, but from what I've observed of other men--they'll eat meat but also eat vegetables at the same time. Where was this diet survey anyway? I'd love to see it! Thanks!

does that make me a man instead? i love meat and can't survive without it. if no one reminds me, i'd just go days without fruits or veggies. i also love runny eggs, undercooked meat more than anything. the one thing i'll never let it go near my mouth is alfalfa sprouts, cooked or not. does the survey only involve people who are on special diets? it just doesn't seem to apply to anyone around me at all.

Surveys may show statistically that men eat more meat, while women choose veggies and fruits over meat, but in our household where meals are eaten by 4 people (1 male and 3 females), everyone eats whatever is cooked, be it meat, fish, seafood or vegetables. We also share the portions more or less about equally. It is the same with any fruits served after dinner. If you ask me personally, I like meat a lot and have preference for meat over vegetables, but I am not sure if that is because I am a male. I still eat vegetables and fruits, but if you bring me to a buffet, I will likely take more meat and seafood than anything else that's served.

there were only rare occasions when my brothers eat vegetables. They are very picky

It's true I am a veggie and my partner is the type who needs meat, though luckily he is happy to have veggie substitutes to meat most of the time. I love fruits and veggies though most men I know aren't too bothered about them. Women live longer though, haha!

i think if you want to get enough nutrition you must eat meat and fruits, because animal protein are easy to absorb
