Yes, Slightly Irritated, But its more SINUS than anything

I thought my sinuses and allergies would just be the same old thing from the years past. Nope, not this year. THIS year, I get to deal with an odd eye pain and my entire eye socket feeling unusually irritated. I've already employed some eyedrops, but they only alleviate some of the pain. Blinking feels odd at times, and there are times I'm keeping the eye just plain shut. Mylotters, if you have any thoughts on this, feel free to dive in. If you just want to say something about Spring allergies or something of the sort, feel free on that too. Meanwhile, I'll continue stumbling slightly on the sight. Hmm, maybe I'm being paid back for something (but I don't remember doing anything completely wrong T_T)

Hope you feel better soon! I used to have Spring allergies, then one year they just went away and haven't come back since. Don't know how or why but I remember being so miserable. Try and cheer up maybe one year they will go away!!

Not a nice condition. I'm visiting friends in Austin Texas where apparently allergies are very common, the pollen count is really high here. Another myLotter suggested sucking on ice as a way to help. My friend hasn't done that yet so I'm still waiting on the verdict for a result. Doing Neti is recommended to clear the entire nasal passages. Though in the beginning it may hurt. But hey allergies are painful, so what have you got to lose. I've done neti but not the conventional way. The normal way is doing one nasal passage at a time but if you are blocked it can hurt more doing it. I prefer to use a bowl with warm salted water (not hot) and drink through the nose and expel the water out the mouth. This action gives a balance to the neti practice. It clears the passages that press up against the eyes, nose and clears the throat too. It's a continual practice which you'd do for a month and may choose to continue it as it cleans energetically as well as physically. In the beginning it is likely to hurt but after a few goes it's easy. Hope you feel better soon and don't have to endure this through summer.

Okay Neti is an option. I can attempt that too if things get out of hand. So far its been odd and irritating at work, driving (yes I know, red flag), and overall tasks. I think the sinus pressure is spreading though... Sigh... Thanks for your input Tet, I'll get better soon enough.

I thought it might have been Hay Fever, but the symptoms are being fought by an OTC. So yes things are better... I just don't like the side effect of sleepy. If my other responses for today seem out of it, you know why Gabs. Feeling better though, but making much more mistakes on mylot. Anyone want to take bets as to if I'll wind up sleeping on the keyboard?

Hello dear theprogramer. I am sorry that you do not feel good in the eye. I have to say that if I use too much of my eyes, my eyes would feel very small and uncomfortable. I always use my eyedrops in the morning after I wake up or before I get out of bed to make sure that my eyes are wide open. I am now quite used to using it in the morning. I hope that you will find some good ways from the doctor to make you feel nice and good, my dear friend.

Hi! I'm sorry you are feeling pain. I think you should consult a physician and have your eye checked out. I worked at a hospital where a child had had bacterial sinusitis and later celulitis around the eye socket area-- it was bad. I am not seeing you,and am not saying this is what you have, but perhaps a MD should check you out. Take care!

I may well get it checked out, in case my own prognosis is inaccurate. Took an OTC and its better now but anything can happen.

I know checking in with a professional is on the list, I just wanted "second opinions" so to speak. :D Anyways, things are a bit better as I've gotten a sinus medication. The good news is, its working and the eye pain is next to nonexistant. The bad news is... and I knew this would happen... drowsiness. T_T

Sounds like you need some prescription strength sinus medicine. I feel your pain. I went through something similar when we moved to Houston (I thought New Orleans air was bad until we lived there). Actually, one of the other office staff (who moved from Lafayette to Houston) had exactly what you have. She end up getting her sinuses drain because she had a sinus infection and they couldn't get it to go away with antibiotics.

Gah... I knew someone would mention that. Well, it is an option. I'll probably give the original or D formula a week (or just a week period) and then I'll see where I'm at. It may take a drain or some other solution.

Your sinuses are pressing on your eye socket. Try taking claritin (the generic version works fine). Once you relieve the sinus pain, your eye will hurt less. Try a chiropractic adjustment too. The head has joints that get out of alignment too. If your head joints are out of alignment, your sinuses cannot expand properly. Which increases the pressure. I have the same problem and both of these suggestions help.

Indeed and I had a clue of this when the sinuses flared up in the brow area. Unfortunately I took other medicine, and thought that was the end of it... I'll have to revisit the pharmacy for Claritin then. There is also a D version that I can get too.

Uh,oh. Sinus infections. They are about as awful as a migraine. Usually you get the 'privilege' of having a similar headache. That is around the time I get saline salt for my nose, Systane eye drops for my eyes, aroma therapy bag to place on my head, and a heating pad for whatever feels like it needs it. Unfortunately I never seem to have all those things at one time. So I give up and go look for some blasted OTC sinus medication. My sympathies, my friend.

Systane I don't have but the other two I could reproduce easy. I'll have to look for that at the pharmacy next time too. *waves* I'll get better. Its an irritating event for multiple reasons, but I'll beat it the same as the usual allergies.

My eyes were slightly red, but eyedrops helped that. No blurry vision at all, thats why it seemed to be a sinus/allergy issue and not an eye or cornea infection. Doing better. And its about time to take my sleepy, I meant, anti-sinus medicine. Have a good night Sarah.

If it is Spring allergies, all I can say is to stay indoors as much as possible..Taking hot showers and using saline solution is good for the sinus's. but as far as the eye thing, have you tried hot compresses? And eating lots of garlic can improve your immune system too.

Oh I know, which is why I am so thankful to not suffer from allergies, because I love being outside, especially when it is warm..but I have heard that if it is the pollen in the air, being inside can eliminate the irritation.. I am glad some of the other remedies worked for you..so go outside and enjoy this beautiful weather..

I have good garlic, lemon and citrus intake. I did in fact take a shower along with my medicine. I'm not arguing or caring about which one did the trick, I'm just glad it worked. Wait...what the? Stay inside? But...b-b-but.. Carmel...its Spring. Its all warm and goregous out there.

This may not help you immediately but, if you go to an herbal remedies store and ask them if they have a Pollen Block with Feverfew and Nettle in it, that may help you. I started taking it about a month before our allergy season started and I am the only one with mild symptoms all around me. My eyes may itch a little and I might sneeze now and then but, I am otherwise really doing quite well. And, trust me...I was hurting really bad last year. My eyes hurt both the eyes themselves and the entire area around my eyes. My head where my sinuses are felt like someone plunged a drill bit into them. My entire face was swollen last year. I could breath and had a really mean cough and scatchy throat. But, since I got on the Pollen Block stuff to block my allergies, seriously...I am virtually allergy free. Now, I did start taking in advance of the allergens and, may not have been as good now if I didn't manage to get myself really healthy by doing so. So, it might take you a while to see any effects (maybe about a month) but, it can't hurt to get started on it now in case you have other allergies on the way as well. I hope you get to feeling better really soon!

I may have to look for that. I'm not really in a mood to keep downing a drowze inducing pill (as effective as it is in allergy medicine). I'm glad it really helped you out, as I think you've had the attacks far worse than I've had them. 151 pcm for pollen count, insane... I think the highest I've seen in local areas and nearby places is a 140 (or somewhere in that range). Seems like there is no mercy for those of us conducive to pollen, grass and other bit allergens... And I so wanted to go to Georgia at least for a quick getaway during the Spring or Summer. Hmm, I may still chance it. I just have to stock on Claritin and other suitable countermeasures. It's going to stink being half-asleep though for most of the getaway! Feeling better overall Cortj, but dizzy and drowsy. Price I pay, but much better than wincing oddly or being dizzy due to pain.

So, this is crazy! I checked the count again today and it went for 151 yesterday to 354 today! That is insane. And, if we don't get rain soon, it will only continue to triple each day until we do get some rain! But, if you are coming to Georgia, the summer is better. The pollen count in the spring is much worse than it is in the summer so, I would wait till summer for your getaway!

BTW...I live in Georgia where our pollen count is at 151 which means the following: 0-30 is low Only people extremely sensitive to these pollens & molds will have symptoms. 31-60 is moderate Many people sensitive to these pollens & molds will have symptoms. 61-120 is high Most people with any sensitivity to these pollens & molds will have symptoms. and 121 + is extremely high meaning Almost all people with any sensitivity at all to these pollens & molds will have symptoms. Extremely sensitive people could have severe symptoms. So, 151 is 30 points higher than our lowest extremely high measurement. I should be extremely sick today but, am barely feeling anything. Some slight itchiness in my eye and a few sneezes today.

this may be irrelevant but u could take an allergy test after this has cleared up for you. Once they know what ur allergic to then they could give u needles for them each few weeks and make ur body more resistant to such allergies

Not irrelevant at all Gloam. I'm also a little more leinient in responses to my discussion. As long as an effort was given, you are somewhere near topic, or you are bringing up something just relevant period you'll be more than fine. I know I have to get the allergy test done... I'm probably stubborn on this in delaying it, but you did remind me its something I've got to do sooner or later. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this.

Pro, I can sincerely say I feel your pain. First of all, are you sure you don't have a sinus infection? That's a possibility and if so, you need to see a doctor. Are you also very tired, do you have a fever and are you achy all over? I also want to second the opinion of the poster who suggested you see a chiropractor. That honestly always helps me. I've tried many different allergy medications through the years but this year I started taking Zurtac on the recommendation of a home health care nurse who comes to visit my mom now and then. It's now available OTC and actually I get the store brand which is a fraction of the cost and it really works well. I still have a bad day now and then but all in all I've felt better since I'm taking it. I'd also still recommend using eye drops now and then, the kind specifically for allergies. I hope you feel better soon. Annie

Those are good recommendations, and if things get worse I'll do them. So far though, 2 days out and the eye pain isn't back. Had to be a sinus issue or another temporary situation. So yes, feeling great, not Irritated(in both terms,) in fact... that rule list was one of the results of feeling better... Okay okay! it had to be some of the OTC talking there. ;p

Sound like you are having a lot of pressure from your sinuses directly behind your eye. That is why the eyedrops are only helping somewhat. I would suggest you use some sort of nasal decongestant, or something like a Tylenol Allergy Sinus. These will allow your sinuses to drain, and you wont have that pressure behind your eye. You just reminded me, I need to stock up on the Tylenol myself. I have that problem every year, luckily I haven't yet though. But I need to get some before it starts and I haven't got anything to take for it.

Thanks for the well wishes pro, but the sniffles are inevitable. I am allergic to too many things to keep away from them all. Don't worry though, I have learned to deal with a lot of it, since meds don't keep me from all the symptoms. Also, I just heard a good remedy for nasal congestion. This is more so for a cold than allergies. A doctor has given a home remedy of a 50/50 solution of peroxide and water. Sniff this up your nose and let it foam a little bit, then blow. This gets rid of the bacteria that is affecting your nasal passages, and allows you to breathe better.

Try a cold compress. Spring hasn't quite yet sprung here in my part of the world but I can see the budding green on the trees and know what I will be in for. I use the mostly useless drops and place a cold compress over my eyes for about 15 minutes in the morning after my shower. see if it helps you.
