Definitely! If you do care about your job, this is a must. When I was very sick, I gave my team member a call early. I phoned their mobile number instead of the office cos it's too late to report during office hour. I don't feel right if they don't have enough time to prepare the follow ups. Anyway, it's important to consider others who are the people you're seeing everyday and they don't expect to do your extra bit, right?!

I will assess if my condition is manageable for me or not. Also, I would consider if it is a contagious condition as common flus and coughs can spread in an enclosed air conditioned environment. So, I would not want to attend work if I am unable to manage the condition and/or if it is contagious as this will be an act of inconsideration on my part.

If I'm really sick and can't function I call in or if i'm too sick to drive i call in to let them know i'm ill. Otherwise I go in..THEN if i get sent home so i dont infect others I'm ok with that. I feel guilty missing work when i'm sick.

I used to go to work when I was very sick but then there were some days that I just could not do it. Sometimes I would go and see if I could do it and then ended up coming home because I felt worse. Sometimes I just cannot force myself to work because I feel very bad.

i dont normally fall sick -.. "touch-wood"... so when i am 'really sick'... i must be 'really sick', and not fit for work... i always consider this... 1) am i too sick that i will not be doing much work at the office, anyway.. 2) the 'sickness' that i have.. will it make others sick as well - is it contagious ? if i answer 'yes' to either one of those questions.. that's it.. i DONT go to work.. - i will sit there just to show the boss how 'dedicated' i am.. i am human.. i am sick.. i need rest and medication to get better... - i will jeopardise the health of all the wonderful i work with.. i dont wish to spread any flu, or cold virus to any of them.. and which they could spread on their family... nope... if i am sick.. even if not too sick.. i'll take my medical leave...

Hello subha. I have never reported to work when I am sick, which does not quite affect my work, though it might do a little. I still go to work as usual, but I do not think that my working efficiency is as good.

dear friend subha12 When I am sick it is not possible to report to my work. I do not think I am so responsible that during my illness I will have to attend my office. My company has given sick leave benefit to all its employees so there is no need to go to office work place during my illness. Whewn my body is not permitted to go out due to illness I do not think I will concentrate over the job hence it is better to take rest. pkc3000

I used to do that. I felt like I was incomplete and more sick thinking of the works need to be done. There were times that I was really so sick yet I forced myself to go to work. Oh my, I almost fainted and made my co-workers frightened and worried as hell. Now I try not to abuse my body and get enough rest before I report to work.

well it all depends how ill i am.when it's a minor illness like cold, headaches,a little high temperature then i do report to work.however if it's something that i feel will get worse with long working hours then i shirk my duties.also it all depends the kind of boss i have.if he's a pain in the wrong places then i might as well try missing work to teach him a lesson or maybe just bother him.

I always went to work even if I was sick, until I got to sick, I became disabled. Then I just got too sick and just couldn't go to work anymore.

I would only call in sick if I was contagious. I didn't like taking the risk of infecting those I worked with. Usually, if one gets sick, a lot of staff would get sick. Luckily, I don't work any more.

I should have said ...if I was NOT contagious. Silly me. I also wouldn't go to work if I was too weak to drive or was tired and sleepy. I can't do my work properly if I feel that way. I'm better off to stay home one day and rest than do 3-4 days of sub standard work.

i still go to work if i am sick with a cold or cough or toothache or a headache. the only sickness that keeps me from going to work is my allergy! if i'm having an allergy attack, my eyes would get swollen and i'm embarrassed to go to the office and i would require some rest to get it all healed up. i have also gone to the office with a slight fever. its not the i am that workaholic or something, i just hate being absent and because an absent would mean a deduction from my pay.

I have no qualms about calling in sick if I feeling really too ill to make it into the office. My boss actually encourages us to stay off work if we have flu or bad colds rather than come in and spread it around to the other staff. At the end of the day, it's better for 1 person to be off with the flu rather than 7 or 8! Also because we work in IT if we are sick and infectious (like a bad cold) we can work from home if we are feeling up to it. We don't have a big sickness problem because people know that the company does not harrass people over sick leave so no one takes advantage of it. Personally if I have a fever I would not want to risk driving to work in case I have an accident. :)

Honestly, no I don't report to work when I am REALLY sick because once I tried and I end up sitting in the restroom's cubicle for an hour so our supervisor just told me to rest in the clinic then go home. So, if I am really sick, I don't report to work because I really can't work efficiently and effectively.

I have been working since before I graduated from high school (about 4.5 years total) and I have only called in sick about 4 or 5 times total. I must admit though that 1 of those times I was feeling fine... but there was fresh snow and I just couldnt turn down snowmobiling with friends :). I think everyone needs a mental break every now and then...
