I’ve known ppl that buy high dollar items and then never use them. What is the point in doing this?
My Mom has a Tony Little Gazelle (exercise machine) that she paid between $300-500 for. It’s in her room with bags and clothes hanging on it. I think maybe she’s used it a couple times and that’s it (below is a pic of it). Hubby’s mom did the same thing. She bought a very expensive treadmill and then used it to hang clothes on.
If I spend that much money on something I’m going to be using it all the time…and if I decide I’m not going to use it…then I’ll either sell it or give it to someone I know can use it. I mean why hang onto things I’m not going to use.
Do you know ppl that do this? Have you ever spent a lot of money on something and then just let it collect dust? Do you still have it or did you give it to a good cause?

I have been guilty of buying clothes that are more expensive and more 'dressy' than normal every day clothes. These were then put into the back of the wardrobe where they never got used. A growing collection that began to annoy me so I have decided that I'm going to wear them, even if it is just around the house and that if I need a special outfit, I can go and buy a new one!
Why buy things you like if you never use them? The only person they have to impress is you! lol. So, now I'm combining my more formal clothing with my daggy jeans!

I bought an exercise bike as well and hardly used. You see when you buy these things, you think they will useful. You have all the intention in the world to use it and then you don't. I had it for about 20 years used it maybe 5 times and then gave it away.

I have a Gazelle on my back porch, and it is just folded up. I miss using mine, but I moved into a smaller apartment and there is no place at the moment to set it up, I'm working on figuring it out, because I really like using mine, in addition to the rest of my workout.

Guilty here! I admit I have done things like that too but I am trying to plan better ahead before purchasing something I will think before using it. I am a packrat anyway so I have a tendency to hold onto things whether I had spent a lot of money or not! Bad, bad habit of mine.

I am like you if I spend money on something and
find I am not using it,I either sell or give it
away.I do not believe in keeping things around I
do not use. There is always someone who can and
will use it.Bless them with it.

This sounds just like my husband..He is always doing this, but I will give you just one example:
Years ago when those wooden playground sets were becoming popular, he bought for 70.00 all the hardware it would take to build one himself..Problem is, we never had the money to invest in all that wood to build it..And it has been a while, but I think he still has that hardware and I have told him many times to either do something with it or give-sell it to someone who will..

I must admit I too am guilty of the expensive exercise machine purchase! And yes, it does display my clothes quite well... I think the reason that we don't want to give these purchases away is because of thought that one day we will use them. We know that if we just cleared off the clothes and then hopped on and used the machine for a while we would be getting healthy (and thinner). If you give the machine away, it's like saying that you don't want to get healthy (thinner). It's almost like giving up. But if we have the machine, it's like a tiny step in the right direction. OK, OK now I know that sounds like a cop out. You're probably right. But if it helps me sleep a little better at night...

Hi twoey..i think its a fairly common thing...ivve seen no end of people with exercise bikes and gym equipment that justsits and gathers dust!!....they like your mum just hang things on it!!
I have a breadmaaker which i dont ever use now..i used to use it,but it seems that its more trouble than its worth to be honest...to make a small loaf it needs about 3 hours in the machine..thats 3 hours of electricity...and we would need a small loaf everyday....so i dont really see the point now.
Ive given away most of what i dont want...because our house is tiny..and i have no storage room....so ive just now got what i need and no more...
But ive just thought..im telling a little lie there...because my crockery piles are still in the kitchen cupboars...i need to sort them out and get rid of some of it....
Then on top of that a wee while ago my son sent a dinner service through the post!!!..I asked around..but no one wanted it..they all have enough...

oh,it is often happen.
the thing we may not need that we will buy it home.
but the thing we may need that we could not buy.
what is the reason?
i think it is that sometimes sellers did cheaper price so that we couldn't help buying things.however, when we buy them home,we found we need them little.then we had buy them.
so what will you do this time?
leave them?

I never buy things just to leave it sit around and collect dust or stack things on. i only buy the things i have to have or know that I will definitely use. It is a waste of time and money to buy things that we will never get any use out of. When I have things that I will no longer use, I try to sell it or give it to someone who can use it.

I don't buy stuff I know I'm not going to use on a reg. basis. 1. Don't have the money to do it and 2. Don't have the room for idle stuff.

My bestfriend bought a fairly expensive stationery bicycle and uses it only to hang clothes on it.I don't know whyshe doesn't use it as she was all gung ho at first.she did have a mild heartattack and that might have quelled her interest but her doctor said he wanted her to get more exercise and she says she is too tired after work to walk and i suggested she use her bike for a half hour and she complained that it needed to be put together first.give me a break. if I had a new one which I cannot as I haventthe money I would use it every day.

My grandmother did this. She had a lot of very expensive clothes that she never even took the tags off, and some really high-end makeup and perfume that went unopened. I think it was because she wanted the status symbols of designer clothes and accessories (she grew up unable to afford anything nice), but she really didn't have anywhere it would be appropriate to wear such fancy stuff to, and didn't need any of it in the first place.
I have bought a couple pricey things I didn't really use when I was younger and less practical, but later gave them away to friends or to charity so at least someone else could enjoy them.
