seeing in flash news in my television, the UN give warning about world food crisis which will be happened soon due to climate changing recently. and as we already know that the climate changing is being unpredictable due to warming global effect
what i see in news today, The collapse of Australia's rice production is one of several factors contributing to a doubling of rice prices in the last three months — increases that have led the world's largest exporters to restrict exports severely, spurred panicked hoarding in Hong Kong and the Philippines, and set off violent protests in countries including Cameroon, Egypt, Ethiopia, Haiti, Indonesia, Italy, Ivory Coast, Mauritania, the Philippines, Thailand, Uzbekistan and Yemen.
The drought's effect on rice has produced the greatest impact on the rest of the world, so far. It is one factor contributing to skyrocketing prices, and many scientists believe it is among the earliest signs that a warming planet is starting to affect food production.
While a link between short-term changes in weather and long-term climate change is not certain, the unusually severe drought is consistent with what climatologists predict will be a problem of increasing frequency.

i just wonder then if the world food crisis really happened then what should we do? what kind thing that we should prepare to face this condition?

Hello dear plumwish. It is a serious problem if we face lack of food in the near future because of the global warming that is changing our climate. In fact, the climate in the past year has not been very normal. Nor is it now. The best and the most effective way of keeping this from getting worse, I think, is to take real actions for the sake of our mother earth and us human beings and all the other living creatures and plants on the earth.

Governments are supposed to make effective laws to help reduce pollution of different kinds as much as possible so that the global warm step can be reduced to the greatest extent. Thanks for asking and good night.

I also saw this item on TV but you seem to have missed a piece of it. Maybe your tv wherever you are is intent on pushing the global warming aspect of the story.
Trust me this situation is not new. It happened regularly in the 50's, 70's and 80's as well.
These were the years that many scientists were pushing the idea that the planet was COOLING DOWN.
Many of the same scientists are now on the global warming bandwagon.(does this change in views make them credible)
We have always had droughts affecting world food supplies.
Any way back to my point.
The same news item stated that the big problem with the wheat supplies and price increase is being caused by the legislation passed in many countries forcing the biofuel supply to be a percentage of fuel sales.
Most of the biofuels being produced to meet these demands is being made from wheat causing shortages of wheat for food.
Another case of governments not looking at the downstream effects of their GREEN legislation.

There is definitely a crisis in the world for food. I would suggest to people to try to grow their own fruits and vegetables to make sure they have something to eat. I would also try to raise a few farm animals if you can too.

Hello, plumwish! The present food crisis is man made.we have recklessly cut down the size of the forests world wide.to maintain the ecological balance one-third of the total geographical area should be reserved for forests.but in reality there will be hardly 25% of the forests is left now.another factor responsible is diverting agricultural lands to nonagricultural use.most lands diverted to industrial sector while some diverted for construction of irrigation projects and a major portion is diverted for habitation of the increasing population.if the process continues unabated,by 2050 thew world would experience famines all over the world and people would die of starvation.so a long term action plan has to be formulated right from now to improve the food production and save the environment from further degradation.thank you.

can we still have the chance to plant our own foods then (count our own luck for the growth of the plants)? * sigh *
I'm just frustrated seeing how the prices rocketed up. I hope no more riots or robbed like what happened in history back then.

Do you think this is a scare thing so people will hoard their rice?
The draughts are bad every where and the floods we are having here stop planting any thing till the water goes away but this happens every year and they still get a growing season might have to take some land out of soil bank and start planting there. For a change. keep rotaing groups that are being planted

This is a very good discussion. I didn't know that Auistralia's rice producton had collasped, but I am sure it would be to the very severe drought we have been having. It is terrible to think that this is having an effect on other countries supply of rice.
Rice is a very basic food supply, & very important to over half the world.
I do think that many people have not taken enough notice of the effects of global warning. Maybe Australia is one of the first countries to be affected, as it is often said we would be anyway.
But Australia should be taking more notice of the effect it is having on other countries in respect to food supplies & prices.

I think we should focus more now on being conscious with our environment more than anything else. I think mother nature is trying to tell us something about her present condition. Food production is part of her way telling that we should reform the way we treat her and abused her directly or indirectly.

I do not know whether this is a crisis or not, last year saw some pretty bad weather across the world, all which has a part to play in the result of bad or no crops. people panic buying always adds to a situation and results in restrictions so it would be hard to tell.

yes it is starting now. in our country Philippines the price of rice was up to almost 50% because rice hording in our country. families are more concern about their foods nowadays than ever before. all we have to is to minimize expenses and maximize our income.
