Why dont more people assemble their own computers these days?

I built my first computer, peice by peice, when i was 16. I have kept the box of that computer and updated it and still use some of the original peices. It seems like such a better idea to be able to custom pick all the hardware and make a great machine. Instead most people still buy premanufactured computers that cost more and run worse. Why? Theres no pride in that! haha

yeah building your own computer is very fun and great, i hope you really are feeling proud of your self, but when you come to the real part, computers that you build yourself will face hardware problem, or hardware failure, you can't be as good as the machine that builds brand new computers, and you need to have a little bit knowledge about the internal parts of computers, but many people don't give a dime for that so how could possibly they build their computer? i think its not possible for everyone to build their own computers, i myself don't like it, i like to buy new brand pc, thats it, happy mylotting!!

Hardware problems and hardware failure are much less common in a home built PC. Check consumer reports if you don't believe me. Mom and pop shops rank the best for quality and customer support. By the way, I am WAY better than the puds working in factories making PCs for HP, Dell or whatever else. Go to Tomshardware.com and check the benchmarks for homemade PCs vs Dell PCs with the same specs. The Homemade PC wins hands down in ever category.

i am guessing the reason why people don't do that is because not many know about the computer parts. they don't want to risk getting parts they are not sure about. they don't have the time of the day because of the responsibilities they have
Some feel its safe just to buy one, so they can save the time and money.

maybe, but putting together a computer is like putting together a puzzle with about 14 pieces, very simple. And its usually cheaper as well. And the final product is generally of way higher performance.
I can see people just not feeling like putting it together i guess haha

Convenience is the simplest answer. It's much more convenient for Joe Email-checker to walk into Walmart and buy some crappy eMachines computer to take home and use. As a computer tech I've actually gone to people's homes to hook up their "Color-coded" computer. I mean, they paid over $100 for me to drive to their home, and plug in their mouse, keyboard, monitor, printer and speakers which were all perfectly color-coded to plug into the right slots on their PC. I dream of having so much money I can waste it on simple things like that.
People also like the warranty. While those of us who build our PCs know that our parts carry 3 year, 5 year, or even lifetime warranties (double lifetime for XFX), people who buy branded PCs think that they are getting a good deal with a one year warranty where tech support is provided by some guy who can barely speak Engrish.

i agree with you with that..
i also did the same as you..
but most people dont know that much about computer parts do they prefer to buy computer packages than to spend time to assemble one..
but i really think that it will be better if you have to choose the parts yourself so you can maximize the performance of your pc, btw it also depends on the purpose of buying one right?

I used to assemble my own pc for cost effectiveness. It used to cater my needs as i had greater flexibility in doing so. Being a computer literate and a little confidence can make you do that. People need ready made computers so that it can cater to them very easily.

I guess people are just lazy these days. I myself am planning on re-assembling my computer. Some of it is already re-assembled.

Building your own computer was far more popular many years ago than it seems to be now. I think that this is due to the vast number of computer users who know very little about the actual hardware, which is unfortunate but sadly true. There is also the factor that a pre built computer has become vastly cheaper than ever before, so many people who used to build their own computers see no real need to do so.
Having said that, I do agree with you that the personal choice of hardware components is a great benefit.

I agree. I have been building computers for years, not only for myself but for others as well. I can see why people will buy pre-assembled computers, especially the senior crowd not wanting to be bothered with the individual parts and the highway robbery of some of the department store PC techs that make house calls.
Again, you just can't beat building your own. You know your PC inside and out and best of all when you build it...you plan ahead for upgrades so that it's not such a hassle to do when the time comes.
