What a Way to Wake Up

Was sound asleep this morning and couldn't figure out how the bed was shaking or why. Thought our daughter dropped her dog off at our house and the dog was jumping on the side of the bed trying to wake me. It was an earthquake that shook the St. Louis area much earlier this morning. Our house seems to be ok but some places in the area are feeling the effects. We are about 127 miles from the center of the earthquake. Did you feel the earthquake this morning, have any damage and did it wake you or your family?

I live in Nebraska where we really don't get earthquakes. I guess we have had some very very small ones but we are not on a fault line or anything. Happy to hear that you house is ok. That would be quite a different way to wake up to your bed shaking!

Even though the fault line is in Missouri, we don't have earthquakes regularly. I didn't know what was happening at the time. It was quite strong. Thanks for responding.

I heard about the quake. It seems so odd that they can happen in the midwest. After hearing about this one, I did some earthquake research and found out that they even happen in Minnesota! Although we haven't had one since 1968, so it's extremely rare here. Glad you are ok!

The last big quake we felt was in 1968. I really don't remember it or where I was, which is unusual. The recent quake was interesting and glad nobody in our area was hurt. Thanks for responding.

I think this earthquake was significant, carolbee, in that it had such far-reaching effects. I was surprised to learn that the epicenter was so far away from where I live given the amount of vibration I felt. I have to ask myself if this is a sign of things to come. To my knowledge earthquakes have never been common to this particular area of the United States.

The New Madrid Fault is not in our immediate area but is in Missouri. We've had small quakes in the past several years but nothing like this in 40 years. It was a rude awakening this morning! We've also had between 7 and 9 aftershocks today. Thanks for responding.

I can't remember how many states felt the quake. It's been 40 yrs. since we had a quake of that magnitude in the St. Louis area. Thanks for responding.

We are in St. Louis and it was really felt here this morning around 4:35am. Maybe it depends on where you live. Thanks for responding.

The news here is also making the quake sound like it was pretty much nothing. I don't think there were injuries and very little structural damage. We were lucky. Thanks for responding.

We've also had between 7 and 9 aftershocks but I didn't feel them. Must have been small. I really didn't understand what was happening since I was sound asleep. Thanks for responding.

Supposedly the quake originated near the border of Indiana and Illinois. That information was changed to Mt. Carmel, Illinois. All I know is we sure felt it. Thanks for responding.

As I was reading this I also saw on TV about it. I bet that was a rude awakening, it would have scared me. So glad that all is well at your house and I hope everyone that had the effects of it are ok as well.

It was a different way to wake up! Not much damage anywhere is my understanding. We've had aftershocks but I didn't feel any of them. Thanks for responding.

Try taking a bath before yougo to sleep. This allows you to relax. And sleep early. Used your cellular phone for the alarm.

Hello dear carolbee. It is nice of your dog trying to wake you up from the shaking the earthquake. You know, dogs are very nice friends of us humans. I am very glad that you are safe from the earthquake without getting hurt, which is very relieved. Stay safe, friend.

Well I am glad that it was not a bad one and that there was no damage, I am thinking that I would probably not feel it or wake up, the last one that we had in UK was quite strong and everyone was talking about it and how it had woken them up, me and my hubby slept right through it and never felt a thing! I would have been scared though if I had have been woken up by it, I mean it is so confusing anyway when you first wake up and then not knowing what is going on, I would have been running upstairs to the kids!!

I was confused and didn't understand what was happening. Neither the dog or cat alerted us so guess they didn't know something was going to happen. Thanks for responding.
