My chihuahua barks everytime he hears someone out on the hallway.

So, here's my problem. My chihuahua barks every single time he hears someone out on the hallway, actually he does more than that, he runs to the door and barks so loud that my ears hurt, gets really crazy and jumps up on the door. I live in a block with 3 other apartments so many many times a day people are going out or coming home or something= big traffic on the hallway. What can I do to make my chihuahua stop this, I'm so afraid that because of this my neighbors are going to want him to leave.

I used to have a chihuahua/pomeranian mix and he was the same way. He made sure I always knew when anyone was around. It was his job. Once I'd reassure him that I knew ppl were around he'd settle back down. Perhaps if you picked him up, talked soothingly to him and let him know what a good job he's doing and that everything is alright then he'd know his job is done...for the time being.
