How many names do you have?

I'm not talking about how many separate names you have in your name. I am talking about when a family member tries to get your attention, how many names are you called before that person gets to your actual name?
This may just be a phenomenon that is exclusive to our family, but when one of us calls another, we are called every name in the family except ours most of the time. My grandmother will be looking dead at me, but she will call me by my sisters' names, even my mom's name before she lands on mine.
It happens to all of us. I will be talking to my son, and I will call him by my daughter's name before I get to his.
Even when we are talking about one of us in a conversation, we will call the person by every other name in the family before we realize which one we are talking about. Sometimes we can't recall the name at all, and have to say "you know who I am talking about!!!"
So MyLot, do family members call you by different names than your own, or is my family just crazy lol?

My mom still does this all the time. There were 3 of us and somehow she would get to my name last even though I was the one she yelled at most. Ughhhh annoying!

At least its just your mom that does it. We all do it at one time or another. I think part of the reason is that we have a family of mostly females. The only males in the bloodline are my uncle, my brother, and my son. If you are calling a female member of the family, you have six names to choose from lol.
Although there may be another reason that's escaping me. Yesterday, my grandmother almost called me by my uncle's name lmao.

I couldn't help but laugh when I read this. Growing up when my mother would get flustered and would yell at one of us she'd usually go through not only go through each kid's name but even the pets' names before getting to whom she wanted. It would be very funny. I know I've goofed up names as well but nothing close to what she'd do, thankfully
My parents are really good right now at calling me by my niece's name or vice versa. Maybe because I'm the youngest of their kids they mix it up with her. Not sure why but they love to do it. Usually we know who they mean but now and then it can confuse us.

No she's 26 years younger then me actually so we aren't close in age. I'm not sure why my parents seem to goof us up. Your guess is as good as mine.

Now I feel a little better about my situation. We would never go into the pets names, when we did have them lol.
Are you and your niece close in age? That might be another reason why they do that. My aunt is about three years older than I am, so it does happen.

Not really. They used to when I was younger. But now they just stick with my name. That is crazy though, a lot of families still do this! even when you are 30 your parents might even call you 10 different names before actually getting your attention lol

well being in the same family we have about the same amount of names. but i even incounter this situation at work. because me and my friend at work are always together i get called her name a lot, and she gets called mine too.
Usually people correct themselves, but one time a coworker just knew i was her, and was so sure of herself i just said hi and keep on moving. whats funny is this coworker trained my friend on a new process at work. you would think she would know us apart.
Me and my friend laugh about being called each others name. I would say that it is age but even young people do like you and i.
so nop it does not just run in our family, its every where.

I have done this most recently. I am staying with my cousin and it's me, her mom, my cousin, her 3 children and my 3 children. I was trying to get my daughters name and i called her 3 of the other childrens name and I just said "forget you!"

We do something similar if we just can't get the right name out. After a few tries we will just say "You!! You know who I'm talking to/about!!!"

I think your family is plain CRAZY…I never had such a laugh before. I was trying to imagine this happening to my mom’s family. I mean they are 11 siblings in all (an entire football team by themselves) and if my grandparents did that then they would have to take so many names.

That is the same thing with my mother... she would say the name of my two sisters and brother before getting my name right... and it also happened to me when i was still a teacher... i can't easily remember the names of my students... so i always need to say like 3 to 5 names before getting to the right one...
I guess there should be a name for this sort of thing... i just don't know what...

I thought this only happened in my family. My mother made it worse by naming her five daughters with names that all start with the letter B, so we could be any of them before she got to us. But I have no excuse with my 3 since their names are no way alike. I even throw in my granddaughter's name now and then. My mother also used to call us by her sisters' names once she had returned from summer vacations and had spent time with them. We used to laugh at her and she would get mad at us..........but now I do the same thing, I just don't call my kids by my sisters' names! If your family is crazy, than so is mine!!!!!!

hello drknlvly6781 During my childhood I was having more than one nick name as my father was called me in other name and my mother called me another nick name. It is common for every body that during their childhood having more than one name. When I was admitted inhe school my new name was entered in the school register and since then I was known as X and still I am known as X. Some of my friends told me you can use any name that does not make any difference but in my opinion a good name bears a good personality. Now a days numerologist are being consulted before adopting a name after birth so as to prosper in future. But in our time our parent was not known about the numerology. It is true that If correct name is spelled in accordance with the numerology definitely it will give good result and it will co=relate with your fate.

My granmother has to be the worst for this.
She had 5 kids, so i have 4 uncles, plus my mom and then i also have 1 brother aswell.
She will say absoloutely every name including my grandads before she finally gets to mine.
Not that i really care, since she is getting a bit older now, but it really would just save her time if she sed mine first instead of last.
hell even if i came in the middle lol

Yes, we have this problem too. It's usually only when one of us is upset about something, or angry. My mother does it to us all the time, and I've noticed that I've taken on that same habit. She actually went as far as to just call us Mickjiffany, that way, it's all 3 girls names in one, lol.

Your family isn't crazy!!!! I call my cat by my grandson's name and visaversa. I think life is just too fast and we're all geared to rushing around so much to do too many things in our daily routines. We always laugh about the name switching.

We had five children in our family. Mom and dad would go down the line until he/she got the right name. I used to joke wiith them that I was going to change my name to Jon-Boy because it reminded me of the "Waltons" that much. LOL
Your family sounds normal. At least as 'normal' as my family.

My poor mother had 8 of us kids and she was constantly calling us by each other's name. Not that she didn't know who we were, but because there were so many of us she would just call out the first name that came to her. I only have two kids and they are a girl and a boy and I sometimes catch myself calling them each other's name. So to answer your question I have 8 names and sometimes some names I don't want to speak about.

Well I am very guilty of not hearing/listening to my children when they call me. My daughter who is 2 has now found a way around it and if I do not answer to mummy then she simply calls me by my first name!! My children never get called by their given names, I have four children and so I usually end up running though all the names to get to the one I want!!!

No, I think everybody does that in every family. I have 3 sisters and I'll get called every one of them before my name...my mother usually does that, and all the time she's standing there looking right at me..lol.
