my wife raised all our children that supper time was 5:30pm. and no latter. If they were not at home they didn`t eat.My wife and I still try to eat at around that time, but my daughter and her 3 children are never here at that time.My wife really gets mad.One might come home a hour late then starts in on his mother, well i`m hungry, then half hour latter another will come in.same old thing.I told my daughter if you would send them to bed hungry a couple of times that might change.I`m grandpa, i`m I wrong for feeling that way? what do you think?

5:30 is way too early. We usually eat dinner at around 8pm. Usually if my children is hungry, I just ask them to eat whatever their heart desire, but when dinner time come, we have to eat together. What if, if they don't want to eat? We leave something for them. It is hard to sleep with nothing on your stomach.

You have a good point!
When I was living with me parents, we always eat together and dinner time is always around 6:45-7:00 pm. Now that I am married, My husband and I usually eat dinner at early as 5:00pm during weekdays but weekend, sometimes, a little late if we will enjoy watching movies!

I have always had dinner ready around 5:30 also. I think that it was a mistake to have a set dinner time. Now when my son gets home from track practice, he expects dinner to be ready by 5:30, but my other son has Lacross practice until 6pm, so I think that we should wait dinner for him. It always ends up with my one son complaining on how starving he is.
My inlaws are all about eating at a set time.
One time I was working and ended up having to work late. We were eating dinner at my inlaws, and I called and said I just got out of work and would be there in 10 minutes....well, too bad for me. I was 10 minutes too late, they decided not to wait for me.
I would tell your daughter that if she is having dinner at a set time and her kids arent' there, then they ahve to fend for themselves.

We usually eat supper between 5 and 6. If there is baseball practice we might eat a little later. Depending on the time of the games we could eat sooner, and then have a snack afer the game. When my husband cooks we eat later than the normal 5 or 6. Don't know why but he likes to procrastinate. I guess thats why I do most of the cooking. lol

we usually eat around 5 or 5:30 here at home. My two boys are always yelling they are hungry the minute they come in the door from school, which is 4:30 so i usually start cooking soon after they get home. for us, it's just become routine. that is when we eat and if for some reason i'm running behind my kids let me know it really quick. LOL! God bless
