Sometimes I'm a real ditz. Last week I put in a potatoe on the "baked potatoe" mode of my microwave, didnt even pay attention since it has a sensor deal that used to work and in a few minutes my potatoe would be done, well last week I did just that, then got on here and wasnt thinking until about a half hour later I realized my microwave was still going and my potatoe was a charcoal mess. When I opened the door smoke filled my house, yuck. Luckily there was no fire but I have cleaned my microwave I dont know how many time and it still smells like burnt potatoe, any sugestions on how to get rid of this smell please:)

Sorry to hear about your burnt-smelling microwave!
Well, what I do (which helps clean the inside too) is to mix a pint of water with lots of lemon juice (maybe juice three, or buy some liquid lemon) and then put it in a microwavable bowl, and set the microwave on for two minutes.
It helps loosen all the dirt inside, and makes it smell lemon-fresh!
I hope you get it sorted soon :)

I was going to suggest the same thing, but just cutting the lemon in half then using the lemon half to scrub the inside of the microwave.

I have tried bleach, 409, orange cleaner and vinager and that didnt work and I do like natural remedies for everything much better, so I will try the lemmon, sounds like a good idea I sure hope it works, my boys sure are giving me a hard time about it, they love it when mom is the one that makes the mess or smell in this case, hehe.

I had this problem when my grandson burnt popcorn in my microwave..whew what a horrible smell. I put a tablespoon of soda in a cup of water and let it come to a boil. Left it to sit for about 1 hour, wiped it down with some fresh soda water and the smell was gone. He thought he had to punch "popcorn" 3 times instead of once. The package says about 3 minutes. The three is all he read. That's what happens when children get in too big a hurry.

Put an open box of arm and hammer baking soda in it and leave it for an hour or so and the odor should be gone. I keep an open box of baking soda in my refrigerator and leave it there for months to keep out yuccky odors. It does work.
