I was driving errands today and noticed diesel was now $4.49 a gallon! Regular gasoline was $3.99, middle grade at $4.13 and premium at $4.29. Good golly miss molly - when will it end!!?!? ANd to make it worse, when it does "end", the price will not come down to what it was before it started the price increase rampage, it'll just drop a few pennies and stay that high until the next "reason" it climbs the ladder to insanity again. doing shopping and such online is starting to be a very good option! You usually one have to pay shipping (no sales tax) and the shipping prices are usually cheaper than a couple gallons of gas per trip. Sure not looking forward to summer and vacations. Well, they won't bother me as I won't be vacationing this summer anyway, but my daughter and GD will be and my son has a diesel truck - he'll have to get a second job! What's going on in your neck of the "gasoline woods"?

Gas was $3.59 when I was home over the weekend but I know how often gas prices change and jump around so it's hard to tell what it could be now. I know where I attend school, gas jumped about 10 cents over night which is just sad. I'll definitely be looking for a job this summer and the one I am considering applying for is quite a ways from my house, which means that I'll have to drive a ways to get there. I'm sure that'll end up taking most of my paycheck, the gas that is. I'm definitely not looking forward to that.

Hard choice to make. Prices are supposed to go higher, so I hope you can make it work for you.

I don't even want to think about what gas will be by the time summer hits. I really don't. I drive a small car, and I remember when I could fill up my tank on a little over $10! Now I'm lucky to fill up my car on $22 and this was only a few years ago.

I could pretty much fill mine for $15 - I never let it get to much below 1/4. Comes from my traveling days with 2 kids in the car and just making extra sure I didn't run out of gas in the desert! I just pumped $30 into it last week and got not quite to the F on the gauge. Sad, sad day and it is only getting worse

When we filled up last Thursday it was at $3.35 and we figured since we filled up it would go down, our type of luck. Instead over the last ew days it's gone up. We went out today and the cheapest I saw was $3.45 and the most expensive at $3.55 for the low grade gas. I saw diesel up to $4.19 a gallon.
I know we are conserving trips as much as possible. Our vehicle isn't the most economic on gas but we needed an SUV due to street flooding in our area along with the fact my sister and I have severe back problems so we needed something easy to get out of and had room for a walker. Still it does pretty good on gas but it still not as good as some vehicles out there. I don't think vacations will be something we'll be doing this summer, not unless we come into some unplanned money.

Problem is most of anything except a beach is all about an hour drive from me . So not sure we will be doing much of anything this summer.

It'll be easy, it will just be VERY EXPENSIVE!!! I think lot of close to home attractions will be busier than usual this year! I was paying $3.19 about 6 weeks ago - I remember saying "wow, down to $3.19 - I'm filling up now" and last monday - it was $3.79, but since I paid cash I get it for $3.69. And yeah, it is just the beginning!

Gas was $3.65 per gallon here yesterday and I must say that it is hurting us a great deal. It affects the way that I do everything. I am tired of paying out half of my paycheck to these people who are earning more in profit than probably I will ever earn or my kids will earn. I am thinking about buying a bike and riding it. The price of gas is starting to cause problems with paying bills and feeding my family!!

My son says,"do I buy gas and go to work, or do I buy food?" So I have been trying to help him and buy groceries for him and his little girl. Long as I have anything I can use, my kids won't go hungry. IT is that bad!

Me too. My son has a diesel truck, and he is literally robbing peter to pay paul just to have enough gas to get to work and he don't live that far from his job.

For starters do a web search, type in "find the cheapest gas in my area." There are sites on the web that will tell you where the cheapest place to buy gas is at in your neighborhood. It's being said that some places are actually 14 cents a gallon less than so of these high end gas stations. Its just being able to find them. I know map quest already has or will have this feature in the next few days. It's not gone to help a whole lot but it will help some. Right now gas in my neighborhood is going anyway from $3.31 all the way up to $3.60 depending on the part of the city you are buying it from. We just need to remember to fill our tanks in the areas that aren't as busy, filling your tank on a heavily used road is gone to cost more to fill up. With summer vacations approaching we will surely be seeing $5.00 a gallon for regular by the time June hits. Wow I really hope I am wrong.

I hope you are wrong to, but I don't think so! you are probably right - $5.00 a gal by June - Diesel will be for sure! I didn't stop at that station. THing is - literally - this station was on the north side of the outlet shopping mall, and on the south side - it was $3.69 while this one was $3.99! I mean save 30¢ a gal by just driving down to the other entrance of the mall - and the cheaper one (Union 76) was also right at the major freeway intersection! And the farther awya from the freeway you get, the more expensive it gets as the trucks have to drive farther to deliver it.

And "the powers that be" have to understand that...don't they? I mean surely they see what devistation this could have - if you can afford to go to work...unemployment rises, consumer spending drops and all over someone getting a few bucks more on a barrel. It is going to be really bad

tell me about it... i am actually feeling very angry now with my hubby as he is so stupid!!! we fill the fuel yesterday as it is the cheapest day among all days in the week... we usually fill it in our usual gas station... but yesterday he needs to go to a pharmacy near our house to have a paperwork sighted by a pharmacy to apply for another job... i fall asleep when he passes through our usual gas station... when i wake up, i asked him why he didn't fill the fuel there... he says because there is a very long queue there... well, there is always a queue there and usually we also wait... i don't know why yesterday my hubby doesn't want to wait... he says that there will be another gas station on the way to pharmacy... and yes, it does... but the price is so high and i actually tell my hubby that... he still insists to fill the fuel there even though it is 3 cents more expensive per litre... that is ridiculous... that is the highest price i ever fill the fuel for... and true enough, when we go back to our usual petrol station, it is 3 cents cheaper like i say... grrrr... i tell my hubby that we don't need to spend more money as we should as the petrol price is already high enough... i am trying to save every penny i can... i am so mad with my hubby now as he never listens to me... so hard-headed and always make stupid decision!!!

Hey, don't feel special - mine never listens to me either .. on anything!! THey say they are not going to bother about 3¢. No I wouldn't either, but it is 3¢ times how many gallons times how many fill-ups per month! THat is when it adds up to something worth bothering about! But do they see it? Nooooo, they just see 3¢. THey know we will save or conserve even more so that they will have enough to spend on their next fill up!

I know and it's awful. Diesel is what most trucks that drive our food around run on. So, that's not making it easier for us across the board. In regards to gas prices, I'm lucky that my work pays for a huge chunk of what I need to buy, but I have to buy the gas first and get paid about a month later.
I am seriously considering taking the train and buses to travel to my favorite places. I'll take my bike with me when I do that so that I can get around. The problem is that the train doesn't go everywhere I want to go. Also don't most trains run on diesel? I haven't checked the price of a train ticket recently.

Thought trains ran on coal? I don't know, but I haven't heard they run on diesel - well, maybe the ones like Metro LInks do. Interesting. And yeah, everyone pushes public transportation and fine and dandy when it is going where you need to go not to mention if there is even a stop within reasonable walking distance to get to the bus stop in the first place! Same thing with car pools - ya both gotta be coming and going to the same location and that is few and far between.

We are paying like $3.49 but it still feels like a million. I remember filling my tank for $15 and that only seems like yesterday, now I am lucky to get away with under $40 and I drive a Honda Civic. I got this car just beacuse of gas prices and Im sure it has already payed for its self in the 9 months we have had it. 35 miles to the gallon and I was getting 15. I need a car that runs on high hopes and sunshine so we can afford to eat.

I fyou find one of those, please hook me up too! I'll even pay a referral fee!!!! I have tons of high hopes, thing is they just stay up there - high and out of reach! Mine is a Malibu and gets 20 mph. I have not been driving much but to take my GD to school everyother week and that is exactly 20 miles there and back - twice a day - for 8 days a month. $50 a month just to get her to school... I work very hard to make sure I do all my errands on those days while I am out and the next week that I dont' take her, I stay at home.

YOu know, it seems to play the same game. My husband used to work oil refineries nad when they'd shut down for maintenance, the price of gas would go up. Last suumer, the ones here in Southern Calif were supposed to shut down for maintenance but he found out through his pathetic union, that the refineries were going to "help the people" and not shut down until fall - after summer vacation traveling. Those big places do nothing for no one but themselves, but they didn't shut down, and then we stopped monitoring it as he went to work in Vegas building casinos, but this could be the problem now, maybe they are just getting to the shut-downs. Thing is, historically they have beeen for 8-12 weeks of 7/12 days to get it done quick as possible, since while they are shut down, they don't make any money. But who knows, and those that do aren't talking!

I don't know where you live but I am staying as far from there as possible! I thought it was getting high here but our regular is at $3.57 most place and premium is around $3.75. Our diesel is the same which doesn't make much sense.
Buying online is starting to make more sense. I just wish Walmart would deliver more items LOL. The things we make the most trips to get aren't available online.

And to think that diesel used to be a lot cheaper than gas and a lot of people changed their engines in their trucks to diesel, and that cost them thousands of dollars to do, just to save some money by buying diesel instead of gas. Or all those big diesel trucks that are new, people bought them when the price of diesel was cheaper and paid more for the trucks because they use diesel. So what ever happened to increase the price of diesel? I know that it had to increase the way gas did, but it was supposed to be cheaper to buy and use. I guess those days are gone, too.
