ive spent my entire life in the sun.. around other kids.. shared hats, combs, etc etc. and never had lice. when i was a kid, it wasnt as widespread as it is now. same with allergies, and alot of other "common" childhood things. the way to get lice.. is to be exposed to lice. sun exposure doesnt make you get them.

I think a lot of reason that people see them more now is that they are starting to become resistant to the chemicals that we usually use to kill them. It looks like some people might have to start trying natural remedies instead of the chemicals if lice become more and more widespread.

No, sun exposure would not make you have a head lice, well yes, the best thing to do is to pick them one by one, or use a medicine shampoo, and to avoid having it, don't share personal belongings such as towel, hats, pillows and hairbrush to others...

It hasn't happened to my kids yet and I sure hope it never does. Sounds like a real a pain to clear up. I have heard that lice are attracted to extremely CLEAN hair. If that is true, its best that I don't wash my kids' hair everyday. Besides thats not necessary.

You can buy special repellent sprays that you can put in the hair which will deter the lice, also another good product is anything with tea tree in it, like shampoo or conditioner. Lice do not like this at all and so will avoid it at all costs. If you do happen to get head lice, again anything with tea tree in or there are a lot of products you can buy now to get rid of them in a short space of time,.

It so happens that when kids go to school they get it from another friend. It is just not having clean hair or staying healty that will avoid you catching lice. I have always made sure that my daughter doesnot have it but in the last term of the school year she got it and she had spread it to her brother too. We get combs here to remove the lice, but to remove the eggs the lice have laid is a real pain. Atlast I have got rid of all of them. I am releived till the school starts. In general kids with thick hair have a lots of lice.

This is a funny thing. When I was a little girl,I experienced this.I was born in 1971 in China. We were all in poverty then. The sanitation was poor. Now,my child do not have it any more, for I wash his head more often.

Sun exposure does not make you get head lice, it can actually help deter them. Lice is usually spread by children at school - they play so closely that the lice jump from one head to another. You need to use a lice treatment (the natural ones work better these days as lice have become immune to the chemical ones) and a lice comb to treat & remove them, then repeat in 7 days to make sure they are gone. Some people don't realise you need to do a follow up treatment & the lice never goes away. All the bedding, pillows and clothes need to be washed and aired (preferably in sunlight) - lice can only live for 2 days off the head. A great deterrent is a spray bottle filled with water with 5ml of Tea Tree or Eucalyptus oil & 5ml of Lavender oil added as lice hate these oils. I spray my childrens & my own hair with this before we go anywhere.
