I must need a girly avatar...several times lately I've been referred to as a 'he' on here. It's all good and it doesn't bother me when a user makes that mistake.
I highly doubt I can make a decent discussion out of my avatar and being mistaken for a man so...
What about in real life? Have you ever assumed the wrong gender? Have you been mistaken for the wrong gender?
I remember way back when I was 14, I put a ball cap on and had my hair tucked up underneath and myboyfriend told me I looked like an 11 year old boy LOL.
And then another time when I was 18 and had chopped my hair off...it was supposed to be a feminine "pixie cut" but looked more like I'd joined the Army...Anyway ex-hubby and I went to the go-cart track and people there thought I was his little brother *sigh*
I definitely don't look manly LOL but with baggy clothes I suppose I can pull off the 12 year old boy look...

Nope, people can obviously distinguish me and my gender. But there a was time though, when I was still a little kid. Maybe 3 to 4 years old, my parents told me (and I also saw my younger self on the photo) that I used to sport a long hair and other folks would refer to me as a she. Almost everyone made a wrong impression on me, that they thought of me as a girl.
But for your case, I would just take that as a compliment. I look older than my age, so I guess being mistaken to be your ex's younger bro seems positive for me in some way.

LOL yes I suppose that is positive in that light since I'm actually older than him! Thanks!

Oh poor you. I must admit only once have I taken someone's post as a man and it was in fact a women .
When I respond to things I try and make sure that people know I'm female... So far no one has mistaken me for a guy yet - but heh, there is always a first time!
Yep, when I was around 11 even though I was 'budding' up front (if you get my drift) I used to wear baggy tops etc. and so no one saw them. Anyway I had my hair cut and it was a disaster. So many people thought I was a boy, I couldn't wait for it to grow. Around that time there was a photo of all of us in class and I saw it about 10 yrs later, I actually said 'who's that boy?' it was a girls' school!!! I didn't even recognise myself.
Now there is absolutely no doubt what I am!!
Thanks for sharing that with us. LOL

P.S. I like you avatar, so don't change it unless you really feel you should. You can't tell whether I'm male or female by mine either! :)

Take it from me foxy, a girly avatar doesn't always work!
I have been mistaken for the wrong gender (do you remember my discussion on it?). However, the man quickly corrected his mistake, so no harm was done. LOL
By the way, whatever happened to the picture of yourself that you were using as your avatar? It looked pretty girly to me.

Actually foxyfire, at first i thought you are a man. I am really sorry. But now that you posted this discussion it is clear now that you are a woman. No i haven't been mistaken with my gender because i posted my real photos. I think even i have a very short hair and i dress like a man , they will say i still look like a woman.

LOL! Oh no! I hope I haven't accidentally done that. I can't imagine why I would. Nothing about your avatar or your name would make me think "he" about you! And, I tend to check a person's profile if I am not sure. Anyway, I hope I haven't been one of the gender confusion offenders! LOL!
And, no...I haven't been mistaken for a boy. But, if one was looking at my un-bra'd tatas, the might confuse me for a boy. They aren't exactly big. LOL!

I have never been mistaken for a boy yet. I have always had my hair long so that could be why I never get mistaken for a boy. Now I have seen many people I could not tell if they were boys or girls but I didnt say anything to avoid the embarrasment.

Yes sometimes someone will mistake me here for a guy for some reason....I guess kitty avatars can go either way, though for some reason I personally think of cats of the female gender...One time I got this weird remark. One of my favorite kinds of clothes to wear especially when I'm out with my camera gear are those loose cargo pants, and I used to have a matching vest with pockets galore as I find both handy to shove rolls of film, my filters etc in all those pockets...well one time this guy I sort of knew said "Why do you wear such clothes..you look like a guy" I explained that they were just convenient to wear...sheesh

In real life, I have never been mistaken for a boy but I have a friend that when I first met her,I thought she was a boy. It was just her hair was cut so short and she was so tiny and the way she was dressed at the time. On here I get it quite a bit because of my name. Oh well.

Thankfully I've not been mistaken in real life. On mylot however there have been some moments. Its not that much of a deal in my opinion.

When my son was a toddler he had curly blonde hair it got a little long it come down to about his shoulders in the back and even though he would have on clothes with fireengines and trains he would be called a cute little girl sometimes! I fianlly cut his hair I hated cutting all those curls off!

Not been mistaken for a boy, I guess I am too feminine and my bum obviously belongs to a woman hehe. I do remember when I was five and my parents chopped my hair reallllly short a woman asked my Mum 'how old is your little boy' and I was really angry and stomped my little foot and shouted 'I'm a girl!'.
