How much food do you have in your storage?

I try to keep a lot of food in storage. We have had times when we needed to live on this. We try to keep 2 years of food storage on hand. I mean like wheat, salt, sugar, rice, and long term storage. We also keep a full pantry of lke 2 months or more of food.
How much do you keep on hand? and why?

Wow, 2 year's worth does sound like allot to me!
I don't plan to keep stocks for a certain period in, but could probably live quite well on our stocks for quite some time regardless. We grow most of our own veg, which means that I've normally got rather a lot of potatoes, pumpkins, that sort of thing stashed away. I preserve as much as I can so there's normally jars of pickles, jams, fruits etc too.
Then I tend to buy things like flour, rice, pasta etc when it hits sale. Our local supermarket tends to rotate their staple loss leaders about every 6 weeks, so I would buy enough to last that long. Then there's normally a few over for good luck too!
I don't really have space to keep much more than that, but it's good to know there's at least a cushion if we were to have a particularly lean month.
The one time we had to reply on our stocks was when we had to be without a vehicle for quite some time. We live quite a long way from town so getting out to shop really wasn't possible. But we didn't starve!
You've made me think now. Perhaps I ought to be more organised about storing food. Maybe work out exactly what we use each month & plan ahead. Hmmm .... things to think about. Thanks!

I am an organization nut. I need a reason and purpose behind it or I will never do it.
My church suggests that we have 3 months of storage in our home and then get 9 months of long term storage for hard times. We just go overboard a bit because we live off it so much.
It has helped us a ton having it there. It is why we keep our budget so low. Everything I buy is on sale so it works out great.

I keep a lot of it in cans or the 4 gallon plastic buckets so it slows down the mice a bit. They have gotten to it before and we have thrown some away but for the most part it is all good by the time we get to it.

I probably have 2 months worth of food but not intentionally. I went through our refrigerator today and checked all the expiration dates on things. I was surprised how many things needed to be tossed. I wonder how many canned and dried goods in my cabinets need to be tossed as well. It doesn't do much good to have things in storage if you end up having to toss some of it.

I try to go through my fridge and pantry ever few months and check dates too. If they are close we try to eat them and if they are long past we toss them. I guess we need to do it more often though so we are not wasting as much.

I probably have about a months worth. The only thing I don't think I have enough of is milk. I am planning on buying some dry milk, the next time I do to the store. I have lots of canned veggies in the basement in a cupboard.

I really don't have room to store more than two to three weeks worth of food, because I like in such a small place. That doesn't really worry me too much, because my parents live in the country and own a lot of land on which to grow things.

We live in a tiny home but we store what we can. How nice it must be to have access to land. We try to grow a garden where we can but there isnt much to grow on.

I live in an area that has earthquakes often. Everyone is told to store food and water to be prepared. We could survive for a long time with our stockpile. Right now, we are glad that we already did this, as if we had to buy large amounts of food now, then something else would not be purchased.

We try to store a good amount. We live in a high earthquake area too but I do worry about an earthquake destroying our food. I guess that is a chance you take.

I know if something happened, we would have enough staple type foods to make it for awhile without really having to worry about it. We may have to cut back on how much we consume, but I know that it would not be a difficult task to survive for several months on what we have in our pantry. We have a lot of spices and several bags of flour and sugar on hand in case something happens.

It makes you feel so much better to have any. We need t go through what we have and see what else we need.
