Let's Stick It to The Gas Stations!

Gasoline - Gasoline can
United States

What if we all picked the same day of the week to not buy gasoline for the whole 24 hours? Can you imagine how much revenue they would lose? I mean, they're stickin it to us by raising the prices every darned day now. If we were to return the favor and ban any purchase of gasolene for one solid day nationwide, do you think that might make them reconsider gouging us like they are? I think they would at least take notice and slow down on the increases. What are your thoughts?

There are certain gas companies that do not purchase their oil from the middle east, and there are certain ones who DO; I say we avoid the latter like the plague. Either that, or move closer to work so you can ride a bike there. This link should help: http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/o/oilterrorism.htm There is one gas station, "Citgo," that is influenced by the anti-American, Venezuelan ruler, Chavez, which we should also avoid like the plague.

Out here all of the gas stations are raising their prices daily and it is way out of hand. If we don't hit them in their pockets like they hit ours, they'll just keep on going until no one can afford it here. The only good thing would be...less pollution.

Thanks for sharing the link...I just checked it out and saw the list. I only use BP gas, but they have one of the highest markups. They need to stop adding 2 to 4 cents a day to their already outrageous prices.

Then do what I did; move closer to work and ride your bike there every day. not only will you save on gas money, but you'll be healthier, too. lol

It's a wonderful idea! But unfortunately getting everyone together to not buy gas for one day would definately be very hard....and since I do travel once in a while I can tell you....the prices have not slowed anyone down. Last weekend when I was on the interstate headed to Wisconsin on Interstate 35....for as far as I could see ahead and behind me was a steady stream of cars.....But you have a wonderful idea if we could pull it off!

I agree, it would be nearly impossible. Not just the travellers, but think of those who drive for a living, and live off commission. You can't expect them to boycott gas stations for a day, otherwise they won't get paid that day themselves. Even if they are not paid on commissions, there are just too many people who need to gas up daily in order for our society to function. Tractor trailers, school busses, delivery vehicles, police, ambulance, fire fighters, and your every day motorist just trying to get to work. I think we should just boycott certain gas stations, I had once heard Mobil was another gas station that favored the middle east, or am I wrong?

I think its a great idea if we don't pregas our cars...and just stay at home one day (for those that can). I am trying not to travel anymore than I have to. Some people say this don't work but I noticed that when there was a "gas out" when prices started getting so high that it would come back down. Of course it would go back up again but at least we had a temporary break. We've got to do something. This is causing everything to go up.

Don't you think they have to raise the prices to cover their cost of buying the gas? they don't get it for nothing. They have to pay their workers too!!! I agree something must be done, but I don't believe it's the gas stations owners fault.

Yes Sherlock I understand all that. What I don't agree with is the gas price increase every day. It used to be every Friday here...now every day it goes up. Keep in mind that I am talking about a 1 day protest.

Here in Northern Ireland,I live close to the border with the Irish Republic. The Republic, as a full Member of the European Union, has their currency as the Euro for a while now. N.Ireland being part of the UK,and not a Full Member of Europe,we have one of the few remaining borders with Europe within 10 miles of where I live! People close to the border take advantage of the shifting exchange rate between the Pound (GBP,£) and the Euro (€) for shopping, and especially Fuel for their vehicles-I regularly buy my fuel in the Republic, currently 99p a Litre-On the UK side of the border,It's averaging over £1.10 a litre, the gap has just recently closed a bit, following a currency adjustment where previously it had been below 90p..many petrol stations have gone out of business or closed, while those on the Republic side have been doing great business..A breakdown of the price of petrol shows a heavy tax burden on the Petrol Companies (and the motorists).. So even without the political implications of where the crude oil is sourced, A big chunk of what you're paying is down to the Government taking their cut..

We aren't blaming the gas station workers, sweety. :o) We do need to blame our government, who seems to run this country bass-ackwards.
