as part of our high school curriculum, we took typing lessons during my third year in high school. all those lessons finally paid off because right now i can type around 70 words per minute. and it took me hard work and patience to reach this achievement.
how about you guys? can you type fast too?

I cannot type as fast as you, by far. But I think I do ok. I use six fingers. I only had typing lessons for one semester. Unfortunately I chose horses and riding instead of typing the first semester. It was not very easy to catch up after all the others had practised for several months at the basics. But i do ok.

you have now given me a motivation to check my speed. I shall type to the best of my capavty and am watching how many words I am going to type. Let me see. I shall transfer this to my ms word and check and I shall write this in my response. Thanks for this motibvating discussion topic.
What is this? there are 58 words in the above paragraph and the time taken by me was 1 second. Have you meant second or one minute?
There are of course 2 mistakes in what i have written. But pl. clarify if you havd meant second or minute.

Yes, I can type really well. I don't do well on typing tests, I get too nervous, but I can normally type 90-100wpm. If its a test I'll type more like 60wpm. I just seem to freeze up.

i hear ya ashly1979,
i've got to admit, that back long time ago before i did learn how to type in sc hool, i did the "ONE" finger too.
lol it's kinda funny now that i think about it and that ppl
use the one finger typing whatever that they have to type.
but, if that's how they do, and it makes them get on with
their lives, than so be it!LOL
Cheers!

I type very fast. I took typing way back in the day at school and it was a bit of a pain, but like you said, it paid off. Of course, that was before the internet and when we had to type on memory typewriters if you can imagine that. Now I seem to make a lot of errors, so probably should slow down.

I had learned touch typing before when I was 19 years old and in the Navy. It was a requirement for my course of a communicator. I'd say it is a very useful skill to acquire, because until today I am typing quite well with all my 10 fingers. I probably can type around 40 words per minute, with only a very small amount of errors.

I can type 62 wpm last I checked which was a few years ago, so it's quite possible it's even faster now...the funny thing is I type faster than most people with one hand than they do with both hands!! I am actually typing this with one hand now while I lay on my bed and use my other hand to prop up my head, lol. I really should make a youtube video for it, it always freaks people out when i do it!!

I was the only guy in my typing class in HS. I could type about 75 wpm, I still keep with my typing skills, I haven't had a typing cop clock me in a while. But here is a typing test you can take, it's fun to try and beat your score. http://blackdog4kids.com/games/word/typing.html
Enjoy

I never knew how to type. Soon after I finished high school, my father sent me to sewing classes. ;Later after I finished my University education, he bought a few short hand books and also encouraged me to learn typing. But I chose to spend my spare time reading story books, listening to music, chatting and whiling away the time with friends and old books.
At the age of 49, after my son left for his hostel, he introduced me to the computer enabling me to send mails and more importantly chat withhim. I was so lost when he went away that i picked this up very slowly. After he finished his education, and got his job, we have now relocated to stay with him. Having left my home town, my fulltime freelance tuition centre, I was forced to find ways and means of occupation in this new place.
Today, I am quite familiar with the comp, [in 2 years] and my typing speed is much better than what it was earlier. I myselfw would not have believed it that I would be like this today 2 years back.
I have worked at it steadily and I am happy with my speed. It is not likely to be a tremendous one, because I still can't type without seeing--this is something I am unable to do.But it is much much better than what I would have thought myself capsaable of.I have a lot to thank Yahoo and my lot. com

I used to type much faster than I do now. I used to type 90 wpm, but now I think I do about 40wpm. Not typing for a long time dosn't help your typing speed!! But, I do use all ten fingers to type. It's like riding a bicycle, once you learn it, it comes right back to you!!
