I loved the japanese setting, but everything else about this movie did not do it for me. I thought it was really boring and I didn't care about the characters at all. One of my friends also really liked it so you aren't the only one! lol

I enjoy a lot of movies, but not that many are really touching. hmm let me think here. The last movie I saw that touched me in the kind of way i think you are talking about was In The mood For Love. It is a bit older, but I think you should check it out!

yup. i like it. i watched it a couple of times. the director really can tell us about the loneliness of the two main characters (Scarlett Johannson and Bill Murray). Not so many movies can picture the true feelings of the characters. and Lost in Translation is one of those movies.

No teison, I haven't watched it. It seems to be a nice movie, will grab a DVD and watch soon. I like very soft, romantic movies or biographical ones where I can relate to more or less. Do not like action movie much even though I quite like Vam Damme, Stallone, Jackie Chan, Bret Lee...I even like old classics like Victorian novels on celluloid and old films of 2nd world war era. Simple, mushy, romantic movies like, You've gotta mail, Sweet November, Bodyguard, The Wedding Planner, Notting Hill....leave me sobbing each time I watch them. Thanks.

Thanks for your response! Those are nice movies. I find that romantic movies like that are very relaxing. They just make you feel good.

yes, i have seen the movie long ago and tried watching again and i still feel the same. i don't like it simply because it is kinda depressing to me. i do not like it. or maybe it's cranial? i do not know why. or is it because of leesan? i want something inspiring.

It is really interesting to talk to others about how one understands a movie. It adds to my experience of it. To me this film is not depressing. To me the hope is much stronger. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it!

This is one of my favorite movies. It really conveys the experience of being in Tokyo; or, I guess, anywhere foreign and far from home. It is a touching relationship between the main characters, thrown together by what they have in common, despite their being at so different stages in their lives.

I agree. To me this movie explains what it might be like to be miles away from home, and finding someone that you can connect with. Finding something in someone that you did not expect.

I've seen this movie for a couple of times myself. Since I'm a Sofia Coppola fan, Lost in Translation is just my cup of tea. Though I don't like this as much as I love her other two films, it still touched me with its sweetness and sadness. It's amazing how Sofia put the whole thing together in a few days, and the cinematography was so delicate and beautiful. Bill Murray is the only one who could pull off the male character. He's so funny and spontaneous.

The way the movie is shot, and the mood, and the colors - everything fits together in a beautiful way in my mind. It fascinates me and draws me in. I have not seen Coppolas other movies - I look foreward to seeing them.

As the title of that movie suggested I was in fact lost in translation, I didn't get it. The most touching movies I can think of were The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, Forrest Gump and the always touching Powder to name a few.
